00:00A Danish supermarket is training robots for the night shift, teaching them to pick up groceries and restock shelves.
00:08But for now, they're slower than their human colleagues.
00:12Supermarket aisles are a tricky training ground, products and shelf layouts vary,
00:17and the robots have a limited sense of touch and a slight delay in their controls.
00:23To teach them how to handle those challenges, human operators guide their movements,
00:28gathering real-world data to train the AI.
00:34We are working on having the robot to work faster, and we will achieve it.
00:39We're getting better every day.
00:41So it's going to work faster and be more precise when placing the product.
00:44And we work with AI, so with the speed of AI's development,
00:49we will also be able to carry out more and to do our tasks better.
00:54And secondly, the robot will be able to work 24-7 eventually.
01:00Right now we work in the stores at night when there are no staff or customers around,
01:03but eventually we'll work all night, all day.
01:07So maybe it doesn't have to be that fast, it can just continue working.
01:12The startup says the supermarket struggles to recruit young workers to restock shelves.
01:18The chain hopes robots can take on some of those tasks, giving staff more time for customers.
01:24The dream right now is that we eventually could have one or two humanoids in every food store
01:29that could support our colleagues to make it more efficient and create more time for value-adding activities,
01:36focus on customers.
01:37However, the retail giant says getting a robot into every store could take up to five years.
01:44By early 2027, the startup running the trial hopes the robots can restock some products independently at night.
