The Opel Mokka GS Line 130 PS is put under the microscope here, with a direct comparison to the Peugeot 2008 and a clear verdict on where this new crossover fits. The review looks at Opel’s fresh Visor front end, the new two-dimensional logo, and the Pure Panel dashboard, while also testing the petrol automatic version in real driving.
Inside and out, the Mokka feels modern but not without compromises. The shorter body and wheelbase mean tighter rear access and less boot space than the 2008, yet the cabin brings physical climate controls, wireless-style tech appeal, and a configurable digital instrument display. On the road, the 1.2 turbo with 130 horsepower is smooth enough, but city driving reveals some awkward tuning, while the ride and safety tech, including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and matrix LED lights, are also examined.
If you’re researching Opel Mokka review, Opel Mokka test drive, Peugeot 2008 comparison, compact SUV buying advice, or small crossover petrol automatic impressions, this video gives a practical, real-world look at design, space, tech, and everyday drivability. It’s useful for car buyers, crossover shoppers, and anyone comparing the Mokka, 2008, and other Stellantis small SUVs.

00:01in recent years we've seen some interesting if not head-scratching transactions on the
00:04automotive market for example PSA took over Opel and then PSA became part of the FCA which is now
00:10Stellantis this leads to situations in which several brands in the same group offer very
00:15similar models how's the Opel Mokka different from the Peugeot 2008 for example watch this to find out
00:36Opel claims the new Mokka design is pure and bold exciting but approachable the new Mokka features
00:43several firsts which will gradually be introduced in other Opel models Mokka is the first model with
00:50the new Opel visor fascia the element between the headlights where the grille would normally be
00:55the air intake is lower but the Opel visor fascia is what the new cars will probably need from now
01:01on as more models will go electric and the grille will no longer be necessary the new Mokka is also
01:08the first Opel model to feature the new two-dimensional logo instead of a three-dimensional
01:13one it's easier to use in digital media other firsts include the new pure panel dashboard layout
01:19as well as the fact that from the start the new Mokka is available with an internal combustion engine
01:24as well as with an electric powertrain watching the Mokka launch event video one could get an
01:31impression Opel is taking a shot at Peugeot we spoke about creating visual and digital detox we believe
01:39that we've bombarded with too much information in our daily lives and that providing a relaxed focused
01:46experience is essential so you'll find no fancy Hollywood style animations in our instrument panel
01:54just the information you need when you need it was mr. Adams referring to Peugeot's I cockpit design maybe
02:06beside different design philosophy the Opel Mokka differs from the Peugeot 2008 in length and wheelbase the
02:13415 centimeter long Mokka is 15 centimeters shorter than the 2008 and at 256 centimeters the wheelbase in
02:21Opel's crossover is almost 5 centimeters shorter than in its Peugeot sibling most of this difference is in
02:28the boot at 350 liters the Mokka has around 80 liters less boot capacity than the 2008 the boot has
02:36a regular
02:36shape there are two small shopping bag hooks there's clearly a space for a double floor under which this
02:42parcel shelf could be stored but while it's standard on the ultimate trim it doesn't seem to available on
02:48other trims shorter body and wheelbase also affect getting into the backseat the door opening is small and it
02:56has a shape that forces you to bend your back forwards to avoid the wheel arch but at the same
03:01time you
03:01have to keep your head down to avoid hitting it and the sills are rather high once seated there is
03:09much
03:09more legroom and headroom than one might expect just looking at the car from the outside it's not great but
03:15also not terrible I'm 175 centimeters tall and the driver's seat is set to my driving position and I still
03:22have some legroom left there are two USB ports in the middle but no air vents there is also no
03:27armrest
03:28with cup holders and the door pockets are small getting in through the front door is also a challenge
03:35because with high sills and relatively narrow door opening I almost shut the door on my left foot a
03:42couple of times you have to raise your foot and thigh and this means that you're going to touch the
03:51steering wheel which is not ideal if you're wearing lighter color pants or skirt now once you're sitting
03:56comfortably you'll notice the pure panel dashboard cockpit it consists of two displays aimed towards
04:03the driver the Mokka doesn't have analog dials anymore as standard the driver display is seven inch but
04:08here we have this optional wide 12 inch display and this one here is 10 inches the driver can choose
04:17one of several display styles from a minimalist one to ones showing trip computer and driver aids data
04:23compared to Peugeot's 3d i-cockpit display this is really minimalist regardless of the digital
04:31instrument cluster and the touch infotainment system display opel decided to stick to physical
04:35buttons and knobs for AC as well as for some of the cars basic functions Citroen is back with the
04:41physical AC controls as well in the new C4 will Peugeot be next the infotainment system is pretty much
04:48the same as in the Peugeot which means it's better to use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and unfortunately
04:53you still get the reversing camera with stitched full bird's-eye view how many units PSA get you can
05:00have a 360 camera in a Renault Clio these days the problem with this elegant digital dashboard design
05:07is that of course it collects dust so I suggest keeping a microfiber cloth handy so that you don't
05:15damage this piano black shiny plastic the glove box is average size storage under the armrest is deep
05:24enough for a large bottle unfortunately the armrest is either too short if you need to sit closer to
05:30a steering wheel or it obstructs the cup holders if you're about my height and you actually want
05:35to use it also the smartphone cubby is on the small side and the USB port is awkwardly located making
05:41it
05:41hard to plug the cable in it was the same in the Corsa the door pockets are big enough for
05:48a medium-sized
06:02bottle from the very start the mocha is available with a petrol a diesel and an electric powertrain the
06:10petrol engine is a three-cylinder unit 1.2 liters capacity with either 100 or 130 horsepower six-speed
06:19manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox the latter being an option for the more powerful engine
06:23variant the 110 horsepower four-cylinder diesel is a manual only the electric mocha has identical
06:31performance like the electric Corsa 208 2008 that's 136 horsepower and around 320 kilometers range also the
06:39powertrain does not affect interior space this is a 130 horsepower petrol automatic GS line model opal claims
06:52it will use six liters per 100 kilometers combined I'm getting more like seven and a half the claimed zero
06:58to 100 kilometers per hour time is 9.2 seconds I managed a fraction of a second shy of 10
07:10apparently the mocha is up to 120 kilograms lighter than the model replaces that's going to be hard to
07:16verify due to different engine variants and different trim levels but it should be more aerodynamic
07:25as standard the mocha gets traffic sign recognition collision warning emergency city braking driver
07:32fatigue monitoring lane keeping assist as well as cruise control with a speed limiter all this will
07:40soon be or already is mandatory in order for the car to score well in the Euro NCAP safety tests
07:45at the
07:46time of recording neither the mocha nor the 2008 have been tested the current generation of the Corsa
07:51and 208 both scored four out of five stars in 2019 this test car has the optional advanced pedestrian
08:01and cyclist detection system advanced collision mitigation and emergency braking system adaptive
08:06cruise control and active lane keeping assist it also gets the optional matrix LED lights which
08:12automatically split the beam to avoid dazzling drivers in front as well as oncoming traffic I know
08:18it's hard to show in a video so I'll just tell you what's happening on the screen I'm driving with
08:22the automatic high beams on as the cars appear in front of me or vehicles approach from the other
08:27side the headlights automatically cut out part of the beam which would dazzle other drivers but the
08:34rest of the road is well lit these are not the most advanced matrix LEDs out there but if you
08:40drive a
08:40lot on dark roads it's better to have this instead of the standard headlights okay so on a paper the
08:54mocha is very safe and how does it all work the adaptive cruise control and the lane keeping assist
09:00work well enough the car will stop behind the car in front and if the stop is not too long
09:05it will get
09:06moving again on its own and reach the set top speed the traffic sign recognition system informs you
09:12about new speed limits and suggests setting the new top speed these are not the most advanced safety
09:19systems driver aids out there but they work well enough and most importantly they do not negatively
09:24impact the driving experience which should be obvious but judging by some car manufacturers this is
09:30not always the case the ride and handling well as a car to get through city traffic the mocha is
09:36all
09:37right however if you feel the urge to take a corner faster don't this car looks the part but doesn't
09:43play
09:43the game the ride is fine on single bumps but as the roads get rougher the suspension gets upset as
09:52well so just slow down also this engine feels like it's about to stall when you're like rolling towards a
09:59stop at a crossing you're waiting for the opportunity to turn and merge okay like this you floor it and
10:07okay today it's a bit slippery but still the engine feels like it's about to stall the computers are
10:14calculating something and everybody left but you're still stuck there
10:19don't get me wrong i know the 1.2 130 horsepower engine and it's not underpowered i suspect psa had
10:27to
10:27tune it down within certain range to keep the emissions in check
10:37sure a few weeks and you'll get used to it but if you find something a bit more perky during
10:41a test
10:42drive i wouldn't blame you for choosing it over the petrol mocha because judging by the e2008
10:48the mocha e should be a decent car visibility is poor but at least the seats are comfortable
10:55and for some reason there is no possibility to turn off the radio permanently every now and then
11:01it attacks me with music louder than what i was listening to previously it likes to come on especially
11:06when i turn the car on but not every time prices of the opel mocha start at 20 000 euro
11:14this gs line 130
11:16horsepower petrol automatic model starts at 29 600 and then there are the options paint park and go pack
11:23led headlights multimedia navi pro wireless charging heated seats keyless access and ignition all that brings
11:30up the price to about 33 000 euro the opel mocha has striking looks and modern features however
11:38underneath there is a badly tuned petrol powertrain other manufacturers somehow manage to keep the
11:44emissions down but their cars don't feel like they're about to stall every several hundred meters in the
11:48city perhaps it's just this test example pay attention during your test drive otherwise the mocha is an
11:54interesting city car rather for dinks with occasional friends than for a small family and how do you like
12:00the new opel mocha let me know in the comment section below if you like my sarcastic down to
12:06earth and possibly mildly amusing car reviews join me every friday at 3 pm central european time and
12:13don't forget to subscribe and like this video as it helps me with the youtube algorithm thanks for
12:19watching and i will see you in the next one
