00:00This industrial estate in Hive filled with media this morning as Nigel Farage docked
00:06into Kent's to announce his latest pledge for a future reform government.
00:10Taking his place at the podium, it's easy to note the sheer size of the boat placed behind him.
00:16There is a growing feeling in this country and a growing sense of anger
00:21and you can see it down the road in Dover, you can see it in Portsmouth, you can see it
00:28in Gosport. And by the way, I don't approve of anybody wearing balaclantlers, I never have
00:33and I never will. But there's a growing sense and a feeling, not just of unfairness,
00:40not just that it's wrong, but that frankly, we treat people who come here illegally better
00:47than we treat our own people. He vowed he'd effectively closed down the UK's asylum system
00:54for up to five years, with Zia Youssef backing up claims that Britain is full.
01:00The plan is called Operation Restoring Justice and will also ban British visas for countries
01:06if they refuse to allow deportation flights to land in their country. It will also push forward plans
01:12to leave the European Convention of Human Rights and repeal the Human Rights Act to replace it.
01:17Naturally, to people who don't know your party well, that brings up that fear of what human
01:23rights could be taken away from me in the next election. The ECHR protects things like equality
01:28between spouses, for example. Can you reassure that you're not going to...
01:31We're going to give them back liberty and freedom.
01:34You're saying we don't have liberty and freedom now?
01:36Well, actually, I think frankly, given there are more doors knocked on for what people say on Facebook
01:41every year than there are in Putin's Russia, I'm not so sure that we do. Look, even if the Human
01:48Rights Act was well intended, it has now led to a situation where we can't even get rid of people
01:55who are potential terrorists, of people who have committed, you know, mass rapes in grooming gangs.
02:01We have to get back that control. And this happens in life sometimes. Sometimes something can be very
02:06well intended, but it turns out to become a barrier to what's right for even more people. And look,
02:11when it comes to freedom and free speech, we don't need any European conventions. We've led for
02:18centuries on this sort of thing. Farage was supported by Kent County Council's reform leadership,
02:24who, unsurprisingly, echoed his calls to stop the boats. Well, I didn't like the balaclavas. That
02:30made me feel very uncomfortable. But I can completely understand why those people took to the streets
02:35to protest. You know, the anger that is felt by most ordinary people out there, that our borders are no
02:40longer secure. But the boats are arriving in great numbers. And you can see the boat behind me here
02:44is a scale model of one of the boats that arrived just a few weeks ago, carrying hundreds of people.
02:51I mean, the situation is out of control. As Nigel said, there is a national security emergency.
02:56A lot of the people on the boats will come here to do us harm. And at the moment, they're
03:00just being
03:00let in. And we're giving them free board, free bed and lodging and pocket money and phones and allowing
03:06them to roam freely around the country. I mean, the situation is just ridiculous. Since the start of
03:112026, we've only seen reform move down the poles. So will Farage's announcement today in Kent actually
03:17leave a lasting impact here at the port of Dover? Chloe Brewster for KMTV in Dover.
