00:00Humphrey Bogart's character in The Two Mrs. Carols may not have been marriage material,
00:04but in real life he was just beginning the happiest marriage of his life.
00:08After three failed trips to the altar, he married Lauren Bacall during production on
00:13this film.
00:13They were, of course, one of Hollywood's most popular screen teams, and Bacall would
00:17remain his wife until Bogart's death in 1957.
00:21As I mentioned before the movie, The Two Mrs. Carols sat on the shelf at Warner Bros. for
00:26two years.
00:26That's because studio heads thought the plot bore a bit too much resemblance to that
00:31of the 1944 MGM film Gaslight, so they decided to delay its release.
00:36This was the second of three films in which Peter Godfrey directed Barbara Stanwyck, and
00:41their first collaboration couldn't have been more different than the two dramas that
00:45came after it—the film you just saw and the drama Cry Wolf with Errol Flynn.
00:50That first movie they made together?
00:51The 1945 holiday staple Christmas in Connecticut.
00:56Up next, Peter Godfrey reunites with another star from The Two Mrs. Carols, Alexa Smith,
01:01for another thriller produced by Warner Bros.
01:05Next on TCM, The Woman in White, then Escape Me Never, and later, Hotel Berlin.
