00:02Newly released 9-1-1 recordings reveal a half hour delay in getting emergency help to Tennessee
00:08death row inmate Krista Pike after her failed execution. At one point, dispatchers were told
00:13the call was a hoax. The recordings obtained by the Associated Press show the first call came in
00:18at 8.40 the night of September 30th, more than an hour after Pike's execution began. But the
00:24caller couldn't provide a code to verify the emergency and at one point dispatchers were told
00:29no help was needed. It took about 30 minutes before prison officials confirmed the call was real
00:35and let first responders through the gates. Listen to the confusion here. So we have a medical call
00:40for service at the River Bend prison saying that they carried out the execution, the subject didn't
00:45pass away and they need an ambulance because she's not breathing normally. We are trying to find out
00:49if that is an actual thing that is happening and we need to send an ambulance and or if you
00:53need
00:53police assistance or if this is someone that is just basically prank calling or like swatting us.
00:59Per supervisors here at the DEC, we have been informed that it is a false call. There is no
01:05medical assistance needed at River Bend prison. We got a call about a failed execution at you guys
01:11facility and we just call in to verify. Um, who called you? Um, or is it like a sergeant that
01:22I could
01:22speak with? Or a supervisor? Who called you? Do you know? Um, no, we don't exactly know. Pike survived
01:33two doses of the execution drug and spent several days on a ventilator. Her lawyers say she's now
01:38talking and walking with help. She was released from the hospital over the weekend and returned to
01:43prison. Tennessee has paused further executions while it reviews what went wrong. It's still unclear
01:49whether the state will try to execute Pike again.
