00:00This new terminal represents a significant investment in Tobago's economic future.
00:08This will support employment in aviation security, in ground handling, in passenger services,
00:19maintenance, retail, food and beverage, operations and other airport-related activities.
00:27In attendance was former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, PNM Tobago Council political leader Sean Fakijo-Lewis,
00:34PNM political leader Penelope Beckles, who were all greeted by Chief Secretary Fali Augustin.
00:40The Prime Minister said the economics of Tobago remain paramount.
00:45The greatest potential extends far beyond these airport gates.
00:51More visitors mean what? More visitors mean more opinions for taxi operators.
00:57More tour guides, more hotels, more guest rooms, more restaurants, more small businesses.
01:03Farmers, our farmers can supply more fresh produce.
01:07Our fishermen can access new markets.
01:10Our artisans, entertainers, entrepreneurs can reach more customers.
01:15And that is the development I believe in.
01:18The Prime Minister said the attraction of investment in Tobago must not be discounted.
01:25This terminal provides the foundation for more international flights, more visitor arrivals and expanded tourism activity.
01:36It also creates new opportunities to attract investment in hotels, guest houses, restaurants, recreational facilities and supported industries.
01:49Chief Secretary Fali Augustin apologized to those residents who were not compensated fairly to make way for the new terminal.
01:58He then made this announcement.
02:01I am pleased this afternoon to announce that the lands are finally organized to proceed with a contract awarded by
02:10the THA since 2023 for 50 plus housing units to assist affected families.
02:24Conceptual designs were presented to me last week and I intend to meet with the families shortly.
02:31Our responsibility is not simply to move people out of the way for development, but to ensure they benefit from
02:39it.
