00:00Hello and welcome everyone. I shall be starting a new series today, being Kim Possible. Now,
00:06you may be asking why, and I will get into that near the end of the video, but basically it
00:12was
00:13one of my favorite shows when I was growing up. And at least for this video, I will be reviewing
00:19the first production order episode, and then I will be dissecting the episode more thoroughly,
00:25going into the people who worked on it. I'm glad to start this new series, so let's get into it.
00:31We open up with our main character, Kim, rushing into school, trying to get to her locker to print
00:37out some work until she gets a paper jam. With Ron, our second main character, along with his
00:42animal companion, Rufus, who was a naked mole rat, arrive and help her fix it. But the school bell
00:49rings, so she rushes to class and is stopped by a teacher, Mr. Barkin, who tells her she has been
00:56late too many times and has to go to detention. Back at home, she tells her parents about it, and
01:03they seem to agree with Barkin. But she is then interrupted by her tech guy Wade, saying she has
01:09a job in the Amazon. On her way there, with Ron, Wade shows her security footage of the lab,
01:15with a mysterious woman breaking in. Once they get there and meet the scientist, they figure out
01:21she stole a blueprint for a robot tick from him. And we get our first flashback from Ron about his
01:28time in Camp Wanna Weep, since all the bugs here reminded him of it. We then get a peek of
01:34our
01:34villains, with the woman named Shigo, and the evil scientist she is working for named Draken.
01:40We cut back to Kim, as she finds out who Shigo is, and Barkin comes to collect her for detention.
01:47And we also get a funny clock joke.
01:55Ron then helps Kim by using Rufus to disrupt detention, making Barkin dismiss the class.
02:02They find out where Draken is, but get captured by him, and are then suspended above the classic
02:08shark pit. They finally meet with Draken, and he tries to get them to recognize him, but
02:14they never heard of him, and he fails to intimidate them in the slightest.
02:19Perhaps you two could stay...
02:21For lunch.
02:22I wasn't going to say that.
02:23Oh dude, you were so...
02:25For lunch.
02:26Ah yes!
02:27Then stay for lunch!
02:29And after he dunks them in, Kim uses her lipstick Wade made for her to gum up their mouths, escaping.
02:36We find out his plan, which is to basically use the nanoticked arm to explode to intimidate
02:43whoever he wants into submission.
02:46Kim of course thwarts this plan, destroying his lab and getting out of there.
02:50Later on, Draken laments on what happened, but Shigo tells him that the tick is still
02:55active, and it's at a high school, with us going back with Kim, as the kids in detention
03:00make her realize she has the tick on her nose.
03:04She escapes detention, with Draken and Shigo finding her.
03:08Ron helps her by giving her a lift on his moped, but it's pretty slow.
03:14Barkin is right behind her, but gets picked up by the Gravitronic Ray, so...
03:18Kim saves them by grabbing the plate off of the car, throwing it at the ray, disrupting
03:24it.
03:25Also, just a side note, I love the...
03:28relationship of Draken and Shigo.
03:30If you just tell me what to do, I could do it!
03:33What did we agree on?
03:34I don't touch anything?
03:36Yeah!
03:37They make it to Bueno Nacho, and begin to fight Kim to get the tick back.
03:41But Shigo gets defeated, and Draken accidentally activates the tick.
03:46So Ron uses Diablo sauce to get the tick to let go, while the detention kids hold down
03:53Shigo.
03:54They get it off her, and she fires it at Draken's ship, blowing it up, and we get our first...
03:59You think you're all that!
04:01But you're not!
04:04And the episode ends with her and the guys in detention bonding together to Barkin's
04:10disappointment.
04:10All right, now we can start going over all of the characters that were introduced in
04:15the first episode, except for Kim's brothers, since they do not talk in this episode.
04:21First is Kim's mom, who is voiced by Jean Smart, who has also voiced Pickles from The
04:27Oblongs.
04:28She is also a brain surgeon, but for this episode, she was mainly just being a regular mom character.
04:34Same goes for Kim's father, who is voiced by Gary Cole, who has also voiced Harvey Birdman
04:41from Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, Fred Jones Sr. from Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated, and
04:48Principal Shepard from Family Guy.
04:51He says that he is a rocket scientist, and we can see he is a bit lax on her brothers.
04:56Next would be Bonnie, who was voiced by Kristen Storms.
05:00They don't really show it in this episode, but she is the basic mean girl in school, always
05:06vying to surpass Kim socially.
05:09Okay, next is Barkin, who is one of my favorite side characters, and he is voiced by the famous
05:14Patrick Warburton, who is also Joe Swanson from Family Guy, Buzz Lightyear from Buzz Lightyear
05:22of Star Command, Brock Sampson from Venture Brothers, and Kronk from Emperor's New Groove.
05:28And since this was the first episode made, he has a deviation in his character design, giving
05:34him light brown hair, instead of the dark brown in the rest of the series.
05:39And character wise, we see he is a strict but fair teacher, making sure his students are
05:45safe, and overreacting in some cases.
05:49And I'll be able to talk about him more in future episodes.
05:52Next, let's move on to the villains.
05:54First up is Shigo, played by Nicole Sullivan, who has also voiced Mira from Buzz Lightyear
06:01of Star Command, Joan of Arc from Clone High, and Marlene from Penguins of Madagascar.
06:08Shigo is the classic villain rival of the show, and the main minion of Drakken, with her having
06:15some kind of superpower allowing her to tear through anything she touches.
06:19Next is Dr. Drakken, who is voiced by John DiMaggio, who has also voiced Jake the Dog
06:25from Adventure Time, Bender from Futurama, and the Scotsman from Samurai Jack, and I am
06:32also reviewing that show, so please check it out if you can.
06:35Drakken seems to be the stereotypical mad scientist who is blue for some reason, and I have to say
06:42his plan wasn't that bad. A robot tick with a bomb, which is able to easily sneak onto someone,
06:48and then you can extort them for whatever you want, is good, I can't really knock the plan.
06:55But, as we see, he is book smart, but is lacking in many other areas where Shigo had to take
07:02over
07:02the operation, basically telling him to sit down and watch as she gets everything done.
07:08Okay, onto the main cast, in Rufus, who is voiced by Nancy Cartwright, who her most famous character
07:16she has voiced being Bart Simpson from The Simpsons, as well as Pistol Pete from Goof Troop,
07:23and Chucky from The New Rugrats. And we see how useful Rufus is to the team, helping Kim with
07:30the paper jam and getting her out of the detention. This little guy comes in handy a surprising amount
07:37of times in the series, but we will see that as we go. Then her tech guy, and the man
07:42in the chair,
07:43Wade, who is voiced by Tahaj Mowry, with Wade being the genius shut-in who makes all of Kim's gadgets.
07:51We didn't get too much of him in this episode, but he'll have his spotlights in the future.
07:56Second to last is Ron, who is voiced by Will Friedel, who has voiced Terry from Batman Beyond,
08:04Lion-O from the 2011 Thundercats, and Doyle from The Secret Saturdays.
08:10Ron is obviously the comic relief of the series, but he is not completely incompetent,
08:16coming up with a plan to get Kim out of detention and being able to get the robot tick off
08:22of Kim.
08:22He is definitely not as good as her, but he can at least keep up for the most part.
08:28Then we come to our main character, Kim Possible, who is voiced by Christy Carlson Romano.
08:35She herself makes a great first impression, being a hardworking teenage girl who still makes mistakes
08:42from time to time, having to worry about mad scientists, schoolwork, and the high school
08:48social hierarchy. With her being a genuinely nice person who looked down on the kids in detention
08:54with her, but quickly befriended them with them helping out at the end of the episode,
09:01and her cheerleading being one of the many reasons she's pretty good at fighting.
09:05She is an excellent main character to lead the series.
09:09Alright, now that that part is out of the way,
09:12we can move on to the creators and my personal experience with the series.
09:17Alright, so the creators of the show are Bob Shuley and Mark McCorkle.
09:22They wanted a female lead action hero since that kind of hero was lacking at the time,
09:28and they wanted a female lead since they were fathers of daughters,
09:32with them wanting a heroine they could look up to.
09:35Design wise, she was originally going to be a stereotypical athletic perfect blonde inspired
09:42by Laura Croft from Tomb Raider, but Disney executives wanted her to be more relatable,
09:47so they made her look more normal, getting the design we have today.
09:52Then, with Kim having the many interests that follow what a regular teenage girl would have,
09:58draws in the young female audience, along with the action oriented parts of most episodes,
10:03drawing in the young male audience.
10:06The show was truly well rounded in all areas of general appeal,
10:11with the last thing I want to add from the creators is the tagline for the series,
10:16Kim Possible, She Can Do Anything, and Ron Stoppable, He Can't,
10:21which is both hilarious and gets the point across of the show.
10:26Now, going into my own experience of the show,
10:28it was my first action show where a girl was the main character doing a lot of action,
10:35which also made me develop a TV crush on her like I'm guessing a lot of boys did.
10:41Ron was the one I related to the most in the show,
10:44being a weird guy who did not really care about how the general public viewed him,
10:48and was a bit of a slacker.
10:50With his clumsiness being something similar between us,
10:55which I still have sometimes even in my adulthood,
10:58but he always got a good laugh out of me.
11:01With Drakken and Shigo, again, I could relate to Drakken since I was an outcast in society
11:08when I was in high school and middle school,
11:11and had quite the fondness for villains that I developed in my teen years.
11:15Then with Shigo, my goodness, she was my other crush on the show,
11:21and I still have a liking to her now as an adult,
11:24being a brash and strong woman with a good amount of evil in her.
11:29But I'm sure I will have more time to talk about every character
11:33as we go through the series in the future.
11:35Alright, I will get through this part quickly.
11:38I will be reviewing the episodes by a production order,
11:41because this episode would have technically been episode 4.
11:45But I would rather go through them as intended.
11:49I will be doing 2-3 episodes every review,
11:52and if there is a multi-part episode, that will be an entire video.
11:57With this series having 3 to my knowledge.
12:00And I will be getting 1-2 videos out on the series every month if I can.
12:05If you guys have any questions for me,
12:08just leave them down in the comments and I will answer them.
12:11So, overall, I think this was a great first episode,
12:15and I would like to know what you all thought about it in the comments.
12:19If you haven't, make sure to like the video and subscribe to the channel.
12:23I will be having the series playlist up now,
12:25and if you want, you can go check out the series that's replaced being Megas XLR.
12:30With all that done, I will see you guys later.
12:34Bye guys!
12:38Bye!
12:38Bye!
