00:05At busy crossing points along Uganda's border with the DRC, health workers are
00:10ramping up health screenings for those arriving from Congo. Travelers are being
00:16screened for symptoms, including fever, as officials increase surveillance for
00:20possible Ebola infections. The heightened measures follow the death of a Kenyan man
00:26who had been living in the DRC for seven years. He traveled by road through eastern
00:31DRC and Uganda before flying from Kampala to Nairobi where he later died. Health
00:38officials in Uganda and Kenya say he didn't have a fever when he was screened at
00:43the airport. That has highlighted the difficulty of detecting the virus early
00:48since people may not show symptoms when they first travel. Uganda has recent
00:54experience with the disease. It recorded 20 confirmed cases and two deaths in an
01:00outbreak declared in May this year. Health experts say the outbreak involves the
01:05Bundibujo strain of Ebola for which there is no currently approved vaccine. Clinical
01:12trials are underway for vaccines targeting the strain. For Uganda, officials say
01:18stronger border surveillance is key to detecting any suspected case early and
01:23limiting the risk of the virus spreading further.
