00:03this is fast or the 500 meter aperture spherical telescope it's located in southwest china but
00:10recently it detected something pretty spectacular in space this is what they say is an atomic cloud
00:15possibly the largest ever discovered it was found near stefan's quintet a cluster of five galaxies
00:21which can be found in the constellation pegasus the whole thing is made up of hydrogen atoms from
00:26end to end the cloud stretches some two million light years which the researchers say means the
00:30atomic cloud is about 20 times larger than the entire milky way galaxy they say this discovery
00:35was surprising as hydrogen atoms are usually found closer to the galaxies themselves however this
00:40cloud was found on its own far away which is sort of baffling scientists in more ways than one with
00:45the researchers writing we wonder why it still exists at all since atomic gas with low density
00:50should have been destroyed by the ultraviolet radiation in the cosmic background
