03:15on chaos as he tried to interrupt a mugging on Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi,
03:22Yoshi Ashi, you saw it in that video just now, he tripped, he fell, dislocated his shoulder,
03:28bust his head wide open, was on the injured list for four months.
03:33I mean, not just the physical pain, not just the physical discomfort, but a trauma that
03:39will stay with him for the rest of his life. Humiliation. He heard the crowd, the fans
03:46closest to him scream and up in the cheap seats, the sound of laughter, but it was a turning
03:52point for him. He believes that if there is a God of professional wrestling, it was that
04:00God that shoved him off the ramp, that gave him the kick in the ass that he needed. And
04:07perhaps that deity may see tonight, the site of Yoshi Ashi's greatest humiliation, become
04:13the site of his greatest triumph. And finally, his first ever singles championship.
04:21And look who's with him, Walker. We've heard it, I said it before, almost a de facto tag match
04:30here tonight. Hiroki Goto held up his hand against Gabe Kid earlier on tonight and now,
04:36this unit, this Bishamon unit, together, here in our semi-main event.
04:42and make sure he's already a är.拍
05:07the shot. Here.
05:09on the
05:10line of business, Hyper while even with a move in
05:11Iceland, Roger.
05:15YOSHIHASHIBA
05:51C'est parti !
06:18In the mind of David Finley, Yoshihashi has never become a singles champion
06:26because he does not have the makings of what it takes to become one.
06:30And while many have argued against that fact for such a long time,
06:35Yoshihashi himself saying it's all about time and place,
06:37and if anything is possible, well, it's possible tonight as well.
06:42And there's no doubt about that in the mind of Yoshihashi,
06:44but David Finley looks at a man like Yoshihashi,
06:47looks back at his fall in 2018 and sees the same man standing in front of him in 2024.
06:53Says, I'm wearing a nice suit to the press conference.
06:56That man has blue hair.
06:57David Finley is willing to go to these physical attributes of Yoshihashi
07:02to try and get inside the mind, anything to get inside the mind
07:05of who he calls a professional choke artist.
07:09And admittedly, Chris Charlton, Yoshihashi in the past when it comes to singles endeavors,
07:14he has never come up successful in title contention.
07:18David Finley has very accurate claims when it comes to those facts,
07:22and you may not like the way that he goes about it,
07:25but by God, David Finley walks in as IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion
07:29and every single intention to walk out just the same.
07:31The first Global Heavyweight Champion and the third Global Heavyweight Champion
07:34created that title out of the ashes of the IWGP US and UK Championship.
07:40It was that US Championship that was on the line two years ago.
07:44David Finley's first ever singles main event against Will Ospreay.
07:48And it was a breakthrough moment for David Finley,
07:52a coming out party, if you will.
07:54Finley said Kobe brings out the true essence of both of us, doesn't it?
07:58Proved that David Finley is a killer.
08:01Proved that Yoshihashi a buffoon.
08:03The third time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion
08:16David Finley is a champion.
08:20The third time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion
08:21The third time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion
08:30is David Finley.
08:32is David Finley.
08:35I will say perhaps some similarities between David Finley and Yoshi.
08:39Jihashi on their championship paths, if you will.
08:43It was, in fact, here in Kobe, David Finlay won the Never-Operweight Six-Man Tag Team Championships,
08:48his first career championship in the Promptu match.
08:53And a lot of people thought, Walker, that David Finlay, a very effective tag team wrestler.
08:59Is he a singles guy? Is he a leader?
09:01Something that still, you know, I think the greater essence,
09:05these people that perhaps aren't watching, you know, New Japan Pro Wrestling on a regular basis,
09:10as we do, have this idea in the back of their head that David Finlay isn't the killer that he
09:15is,
09:16but he is everything that he says he is.
09:18And perhaps arguably more, that's what makes him such a dangerous and, quite frankly, scary individual.
09:24Well, I mean, historically, evolution has been a slow process,
09:27but for a man like David Finlay, professional wrestling, born in his blood,
09:30he is the man to beat in this matchup.
09:41You know what's funny, Chris, is, you know, us as statisticians,
09:44we would look at the 2-1 win-loss record between David Finlay and Yoshihashi,
09:49and maybe laugh at some of the claims David Finlay is making about his opponent here tonight.
09:53However, those two wins Yoshihashi has over David Finlay did not come at the expense of the Rebel Savior cover.
10:01Did not come at the expense of the Bullet Club leader.
10:03They came from a different David Finlay.
10:05That's not the man we see in front of us here.
10:07Well, and that's not the Yoshihashi that David Finlay is making fun of,
10:10as much as he can make light of it, you know what I mean?
10:13Through trauma, and that was such a great, a great, great interview that he did on YouTube recently, Yoshihashi.
10:21You know, through that trauma, trying to tap into himself,
10:24and Yoshihashi kind of feeling, you know, so many guys in this business feel the weight of expectations.
10:30I have to, pro wrestlers do this.
10:33You know, everything in wrestling is so prescriptive,
10:35thanks to, you know, I think some of the, well,
10:40less tasteful people within our community.
10:43Certain commentators might say wrestling has to be a certain way.
10:46You have to behave a certain way, and it took that trauma for Yoshihashi to go against that grifting philosophy
10:55and kind of say, no, I mean, like, once I can enjoy, once I can be a symbol of hope
11:00to the people,
11:01that's how he tapped himself into that strength.
11:03That's how he became Never 0.6 man and tag team champion.
11:07Look out.
11:08David Finley, it is pure, raw strength and aggression
11:11that brought him that global heavyweight championship as well
11:14that allowed him the hostile takeover over the Bullet Club
11:18become the leader of the Wardogs.
11:20I think you're right.
11:21I mean, both men had an epiphany of sorts
11:23in the last couple of years.
11:28One could almost say both of their epiphanies came through shoulder injury
11:33in a funny amount, you know, I mean,
11:35David Finley spent an awful long time on the shelf
11:41thanks to a shoulder injury sustained with a tag match
11:45with his then-partner, Juice Robinson.
11:49With all the differences, all the similarities,
11:52they all come to a head here tonight in our semi-main event.
11:54The fact is this, Yoshihashi has never faced against David Finley
11:58at his most dangerous, which is David Finley, right now.
12:01It is not David Finley of 2022,
12:04not of 2016 when they first met in singles action.
12:07It's now.
12:09Oh, and you're seeing it.
12:11The proof is in the pudding,
12:12and the pudding's on the shirt of Yoshihashi.
12:13Hammer throw there into the corner.
12:17Hit him, hit him, give up!
12:20Even Yoshihashi, you know,
12:21a little bit of vitriol for Ghetto,
12:24who was once such a key part of Chaos,
12:30turned his back on Chaos,
12:31turned his back on Kazuchiko Okada.
12:34Get over.
12:35Laughed in the face of Yoshihashi
12:37when he took that nasty fall back in 2018.
12:39He was right here at ringside.
12:40Remember it well.
12:49Even with the winning record,
12:51Yoshihashi still stands at a massive disadvantage,
12:54but it's not new for Yoshihashi
12:55to have to fight from underneath.
12:58The entire career of Yoshihashi
13:00built on the concept.
13:01Both men take it over the top.
13:04I mean, he's made a catchphrase of it.
13:07He lives by it.
13:09Everything can change in an instant.
13:12As long as he keeps believing.
13:16He's well, well used to
13:18having his back against the corner,
13:20having to fight against adversity.
13:21He should be here.
13:23He even failed the tryout
13:25to get into New Japan Pro Wrestling three times.
13:28Eventually got accepted
13:29because a couple of kids pulled out.
13:31Do you remember this?
13:33And yet, here he is.
13:35Got his first championship opportunity
13:37as a substitute
13:39thanks to an injury
13:41over the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.
13:44That's why, you know,
13:45he said, I'd recovered mentally
13:48from being eliminated from the G1.
13:51I'd recovered by the time I got backstage
13:52because I knew I might have a chance
13:55to come my way.
13:56Oh, well, what is David Finlay thinking?
13:58I think, oh, oh, come on now.
14:03You see, obviously, attempting to poke fun
14:05to get inside the mind again
14:06with Yoshihashi, oh, nearly eating it
14:09for the second time in his career.
14:14Oh, we're battling up that faded ramp tonight, Chris.
14:18Oh, Finlay backing it all the way.
14:21It's a long way down for Yoshihashi here.
14:23Oh, hello.
14:24And it's Finlay.
14:25Finlay, no, no.
14:27Oh, no.
14:32And Yoshihashi with a suplex on that ramp.
14:36Well, perhaps the enemy of my enemy
14:37is my friend.
14:40Yoshihashi.
14:43A little bit reacquainted
14:45with that entrance ramp.
14:51It is David Finlay that seeks his second defense
14:54of the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship.
14:58Won the title for the second time
15:00back at wrestling.
15:01Dantaku and Fukuoka made fourth
15:03defeated Nick Demet.
15:04Defended once against Sonata
15:05back in Sopo.
15:06And you'll put all through this while
15:08David Finlay has constantly
15:10looked past Yoshihashi.
15:12He's had half an eye
15:14when Hiroki Goto.
15:15That's why he sent Gabe Kidd after Goto.
15:17It wasn't because of Jake Lee at all.
15:18Oh, look out.
15:19Yoshihashi.
15:21Yoshihashi.
15:21Going to run for it.
15:24Yoshihashi dropkick.
15:25And this time it's Finlay taking the tumble.
15:32And there's something just so sweet
15:34about Yoshihashi being the man to deliver it.
15:39Even David Finlay in his interview
15:41at njpw1972.com.
15:44Whoa, whoa, whoa.
15:44Chris, Chris, Chris.
15:46Oh!
15:49David Finlay, chest and skull collide
15:53with our apron here.
15:54And this is a sign of Yoshihashi.
15:57Normally Yoshihashi would have brought Finlay
15:59right back into the ring.
16:00There's no doubt Finlay pushed Yoshihashi's buttons,
16:03deserved every bit of that shot.
16:13It's instantaneous tonight.
16:15Yoshihashi!
16:18A little bit of killer instinct
16:20we rarely see from the headhunter.
16:27Here's another look.
16:29Oh, one more time.
16:30Bam, hard impact.
16:32Again on that shoulder.
16:33Previously damaged.
16:34Re-aggravated during G1 for Finlay.
16:38Yoshihashi from the top.
16:40Whoa!
16:43Blockbuster.
16:43Yeah, headhunter off the top.
16:45Cover here.
16:46And it's two.
16:50And now, look.
16:51I mean, he's going pedal to the metal here, Walker.
16:54He has consistent.
16:55Yeah, going for that butterfly lock.
16:59That's the in-ring IQ of David Finlay on display,
17:02by the way, right to the outside.
17:03You're right.
17:04You're right.
17:04But I think David Finlay has had to open his eyes now
17:07to Yoshihashi.
17:09Even in that interview on NJPW1972.com
17:11alluding to his issues with Switchblade J-White.
17:15Oh, yeah.
17:16There might be a match that people might want to see
17:18at Wrestle Kingdom or Wrestle Dynasty.
17:20I mean, Yoshihashi was the furthest thing down from his list.
17:24But right now, it's right at the top.
17:26Has to be.
17:27Let's go!
17:30Let's go!
17:31Let's go!
17:32Let's go!
17:33Let's go!
17:34Let's go!
17:35Let's go!
17:36Let's go!
17:36Let's go!
17:37Let's go!
17:38Let's go!
17:38Yoshihashi, the most sudden threat
17:40to the IAWGP Global Heavyweight title.
17:43Let's not forget how this all started, Chris.
17:45The last night of G1 Climax, it was what?
17:48Yoshihashi pinning David Finlay.
17:50Proving what?
17:51I can pin David Finlay.
17:53Oh, and Finlay.
17:56He put the brakes on.
17:57Did Yoshihashi pin it out on that?
17:59Man.
18:00Oh!
18:01Oh!
18:04Yoshihashi.
18:06avoided instant disaster, but Finlay thawed on his feet.
18:10Chris, as we talk about insecurity and a lack of confidence Yoshihashi may have in this building,
18:16knowing that you have defeated the Global Heavyweight Champion before,
18:19you can dissuade some of that.
18:21Well, I think, oh my goodness, I don't think he'll be thinking of much more after this.
18:27Yoshihashi tries to get low.
18:29Oh, no, no!
18:30Oh!
18:32Oh!
18:33Oh!
18:35Separating the shoulder blades of Yoshihashi is David Finlay.
18:40Let's look at it one more time.
18:41Here's your replay, folks.
18:43The power!
18:44Bam!
18:45And you're right, it was the shoulder right there.
18:50Give me two!
18:51Give me two!
18:55He is deceptively, I think, Walker, one of the strongest athletes in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
19:02I mean, you saw him do that to Jeff Cobb for crying out loud in the G1.
19:05Six, seven, eight, and this is perhaps right there on your screen,
19:13the difference making Gotoh trying to will Yoshihashi back in the ring.
19:18Very different corner men tonight between Gotoh and Gato.
19:23I doubt.
19:27The difference is Gotoh is going to inspire favor.
19:30Cover here for Finlay, and it's two.
19:32Gato on the meanwhile is going to be on the outside.
19:35What, barking orders to David Finlay, the so-called leader of the Bullet Club,
19:38taking orders from who?
19:40Oh, well, that's a sore subject.
19:42You see this sad, pathetic face?
19:45Still even to this day.
19:48A lot of speculation of, well, did David Finlay act alone?
19:52Will he deliver that shillelagh shot to Jay White,
19:55or was it Gato that was pulling the strings?
19:58It's always a string puller to the string puller,
20:01and David Finlay is pulling them on Yoshihashi here tonight,
20:04left, right, and center.
20:05And he's making him dance in a grotesque display.
20:11I don't think we need this.
20:17I mean, it's not often you see David Finlay go into these sort of tactics, but...
20:22I mean, it's, this is the rebel, this is this David Finlay Walker.
20:27Yeah, maybe the David Finlay of a couple of years ago wouldn't have gone to this.
20:30This is someone who is dis-demonstrably sick.
20:36This is the new, sick, with a propensity for violence.
20:42Oh, no, looking for a sequel.
20:43A sequel to the Kobe Fall in 2018, and it's David Finlay goes shoulder first.
20:59Shoulder first for David Finlay, and it's Yoshihashi here, Yoshihashi now.
21:03Oh, face first, shoulder first cover.
21:11Finlay is clutching at that left arm, and we've said,
21:15we've spoken so many times for both of these guys.
21:18Those shoulder injuries, they never fully heal.
21:21It's not at all.
21:22Oh, my God.
21:27That left shoulder injury was re-aggravated back to the tail end of G1
21:31climax of the match against Yota Tsuji.
21:39And let's not, for an instant walker,
21:43pass dispersions on David Finlay's work ethic in the year 2024.
21:48It's strong.
21:49The violent fights that he has been in, that he has put himself through
21:56against John Moxley and Will Ospreay in the Tokyo Dome
21:59in that dog pound steel cage match.
22:02Losing the championship to Nick Nemeth, winning it right back.
22:05Come on, Yoshihashi.
22:06And then again and again, and into the G1.
22:08Finlay wants a full schedule, and that takes its toll.
22:13Yoshihashi is the freshman man, I think I'd have to say.
22:16Oh, my God.
22:20Situations David Finlay has put himself in time and time
22:24again, some of the most dangerous matches.
22:28Let's go!
22:30Yota!
22:32Yota!
22:34Yota!
22:35Yota!
22:36Yota!
22:37Yota!
22:38Yota!
22:39Yota!
22:39Yota!
22:39Yota!
22:39Yota!
22:50Yota!
22:51He doesn't want to go.
22:52It won't go.
22:53And he's got to make him.
22:56Oh, look out.
22:57Karma might be a bitch for Finlay.
23:02Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
23:04Look at that!
23:05Oh, unreal!
23:07Right on the spine.
23:08The cover.
23:09Two.
23:099, 9, 9, 10, 10, 11, 11.
23:12So, then.
23:12Again.
23:12And that's the second huge display of strength
23:16On that bum, shoulder walker.
24:01Il a l'air d'envoire.
24:02Oh, une Côte d'Irish.
24:17Oh, c'est le moment.
24:23Oh, no, no, Guedot calling the play.
24:27Guedot calling the play, Walker.
24:29You can hear it.
24:29It's been that way for Finlay's career thus far.
24:32Oh, no.
24:32Oh, again.
24:34Face first for Finlay.
24:36Oh, this is how he beat him in New York.
24:38C'est parti !
25:09C'est un modifiant, presque un version de la film.
25:13Nelson cranks le nec, forward.
25:16Et Guido, on l'air.
25:32Yes.
25:32Yes.
25:36David Finlay's last best hope to retain Walker just tossed out the ring.
25:41Goto has get on, Yossi Ashii has Finlay.
25:44And Finlay try as he might to make it that bottom rope.
25:48We could have a new Global Heavyweight Champion.
25:50How many times has Goto held away an opposition tag partner, just like we're seeing here?
25:58The Bishamon Bond might bring Yossi Ashi Global Gold.
26:02It's been made it.
26:04It's happening.
26:06All the believers, all the doubters, they all come together and
26:10conglomerate for this damn moment.
26:12Yoshi Ashi becomes champion, he can do it.
26:16Yes, and now I give him away the arm.
26:19It'll have to be verbal submission.
26:22And in pain, and he cannot control the bottom half.
26:32All the stars had aligned and seen for the moment.
26:38Wow.
26:38But God how tough is the Global Heavyweight Champion.
26:47There's a reason that David Finlay has no problem whatsoever
26:50placing himself in some of the most dangerous situations New Japan Pro Wrestling has ever seen.
26:55Oh, yeah!
26:55Oooo!
26:58przygot.
26:59Let's do it.
27:02Uh-oh.
27:03You're beatin' it.
27:04Get this bishamon up.
27:06Oh, yes, it's been up.
27:07Yoshihashi.
27:08Think he couldわか us.
27:09Oh, no.
27:10Dragon suplex, plat-ee-a!
27:13Puts down Yoshihashi.
27:14Hashi's up.
27:16Oh-ho.
27:17Aaaaaaah!
27:19Big match, Hash, here we go!
27:24Inside and out, goes Finlay, and now Kobe believe Walker, do you?
27:32It has to be proven here!
27:35Kouba got it, he's got it Walker, he's got it!
27:38Kouba got O'Shea, we have a new champion!
27:41No, no, no!
27:55I haven't seen this out of Yoshi-Hashi in years!
28:00You don't think Walker!
28:03It could be loose!
28:04The loose explosion!
28:07The cover!
28:09No!
28:13Yoshi-Hashi going deep into his playbook!
28:17Nothing deeper than the loose explosion for Yoshi-Hashi!
28:22Oh, go, Hennie!
28:24Come on, go, Hennie!
28:25Come on!
28:26Come on!
28:32And now, a roar of defiance against the odds!
28:36And...
28:37Coming!
28:38It's Cardinal!
28:40Kicks away the leg, here it is!
28:42It is!
28:45If it's gonna be anything, it's gonna be this!
28:47No, no, no, no, no, no!
28:48Anything can happen in an instant, Yoshi-Hashi!
28:51And Finlay, Finlay, against all his wrestling instincts!
28:56Here we go!
28:57Kouba!
28:59Counted right in to Prima Doctor!
29:05And Finlay!
29:06No, no, no, no, no!
29:07Back in dead!
29:12And backslide here for Finlay, brought right back out, third floor is here!
29:17And it's in to Oblivion!
29:20Take out!
29:21Take out!
29:22No!
29:26Kobe is coming alive tonight, and it's gonna take every single solid here for Yoshi-Hashi to become champion!
29:36Oh, but now, Finlay back in the driver's seat!
29:43Still Yoshi-Hashi!
29:45Not anymore!
29:48Rolls in the elbow, brings back Dopp, and it's the same song and dance!
29:54Powerbomb in, on the cover!
29:56Two, once, more!
30:03And damn everything that David Finlay said about Yoshi-Hashi in that press conference yesterday!
30:08Saying that he isn't champion material!
30:10This is the heart of a champion, Chris Charlton!
30:14And it's a heart that David Finlay may have one day!
30:17But this resilience is on another level for Yoshi-Hashi!
30:25He's taking a lot of time!
30:28If he can get overkill, it's over!
30:30Yeah, he is over!
30:32Caught it! Caught it!
30:33Oh!
30:33Come on!
30:34Come on!
30:35They got him!
30:36No!
30:40And a pop-up powerbomb for Finlay!
30:43No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!
31:09So many times, especially over the last 12 months,
31:16that overkill has been just that.
31:19It's been a punctuation mark
31:23on an aggressive, declarative sentence.
31:30Walker, that was an overkill.
31:32No, it was not.
31:33It was necessary.
31:36That was what it took
31:38to put down Yoshi-Hashi
31:41and his prideful vest.
31:55Oh, wow.
32:00And over the body of a fallen friend
32:03steps, Hiroki Goto
32:05and steps up to the plate
32:08of the IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion.
32:16Chris, you postured the question
32:18earlier on in the evening.
32:19Is David Finlay afraid of Hiroki Goto?
32:22And the answer remains,
32:23maybe.
32:24But one thing's for certain,
32:25Finlay is not going to show anyone,
32:27not going to show the world,
32:28not going to show his damn mirror
32:29exactly what his own thoughts are.
32:33David Finlay walks away
32:34with the win tonight, Colbert.
32:37This is my championship.
32:39This is David Finlay's championship.
32:46Savagery, yes.
32:48The strength and success
32:51in equal measure.
32:53David Finlay still
32:55IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion.
32:58And coming up next, folks,
32:59the IWGP World Heavyweight Titles
33:01on the line in our main event,
