00:01Raymond James Dungay has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of attempted
00:07caused grievous bodily harm and one count of assault over an alleged incident here at the
00:13Prince of Wales Hospital on Tuesday night. Police allege the 48-year-old doused three patients in
00:19petrol which he had hidden in a water bottle. They also allege that he was a patient in the
00:25spinal ward and that he was in a wheelchair when this alleged attack took place. They say that
00:30Mr Dungay tried to set all three patients alight. Only one patient caught a blaze and that patient
00:36we spoke to earlier today. We spoke to him while he was in his hospital bed recovering from his
00:41minor burns. Here's what he had to say. Mate, they've had that much trouble with him. He shouldn't have been
00:47there.
00:48But I'm glad it happened to me and it didn't happen to someone that could have been brought
00:53up. So we'll kind of use their hands with muffins to take their clothes off because there's plenty
00:58of people in there who can't, you know. Police say health staff were able to quickly extinguish
01:03that blaze and thankfully that patient only received minor injuries and is now in a stable
01:09condition still here in hospital. The other two patients received minor injuries as well after
01:14they were allegedly doused in petrol. They're said to be doing well as well. Now we also heard from
01:20the state health minister Ryan Park earlier today. He said this is one of the most appalling
01:25incidents he's ever seen take place in his career. It's one of the most appalling incidents
01:30I've ever seen in a public hospital in my life. Those people are not welcome in our hospital.
01:36That person is currently under police guard. That person will have a bedside hearing very soon.
01:42As soon as I can get that grub out of that hospital, we will be getting him out of that
01:47hospital.
01:47He has caused damage and harm to not only patients but also our staff.
01:53Mr Dungay faced bail division court earlier today where he did not apply for his release. We understand
01:59he is now in handcuffs. He is still at the hospital. We heard in court though that he was on
02:05bail at the
02:05time of the attack for an alleged break and enter earlier this year. He'll face court again in December.
