00:28game where your choices matter more than ever.
00:31From culture evolution and historical authenticity
00:35to diplomacy, adaptation and climate change,
00:38every system is designed to help you build a civilization
00:42that truly feels unique.
00:44We've been working hard to bring that vision to life
00:47and today, we'd like to share how far we've come on that journey.
00:55Please note that everything you will see today
00:58comes from an early PC build
00:59and many interface elements, in particular,
01:02are still work in progress.
01:05In Humankind 2, all the people, places and events
01:09you encounter are grounded in historical research.
01:13Beyond my role as both historian and game director,
01:16we've been collaborating with more than 30 historians
01:18across the world, each bringing expertise in their own field.
01:23Together, we are creating an authentic historical playground
01:26where you can write your own story.
01:29The story of yours unfolds in the brand new historical mode.
01:33This is where you will be able to relive
01:36or change true events of the past.
01:38Every one of your actions leaves a unique mark in history,
01:41so that every playthrough feels different.
01:44To make this historical mode possible,
01:46we have created an authentic in-game map of the Earth.
01:49Of course, other modes are available
01:52and will be revealed later.
01:55To begin a historical game,
01:57you'll select a first tale,
01:58a founding myth inspired by real-world traditions
02:02that shapes the opening of your civilization's journey.
02:06Today, we'll play the Flood Tamer tale,
02:09associated with ancient Egypt.
02:11Egypt is one of more than 70 playable cultures
02:14available in humankind too,
02:17giving players unprecedented cultural variety
02:20and making this our most diverse historical sandbox yet.
02:26So, let me tell you the story of a tribe from ancient Egypt.
02:31The very first tribe ventures into the hot, dry, and beautiful desert
02:35and eventually founds its first city near the Nile.
02:41We'll fast forward a bit
02:43to reach the second of the six eras of humankind too.
02:46We are now in the Classical era.
02:49Rome is now a republic.
02:51Carthage is a mighty city
02:53and both are fighting for control of trade
02:56across the Mediterranean Sea.
02:58Hannibal's elephants have just crossed the Alps
03:01and are about to attack Rome.
03:03Back in the Egyptian region,
03:05let's have a look at your empire
03:07in the middle of the desert
03:08where the Temple of Ra dominates the Nile
03:11and the Lighthouse of Alexandria is almost finished.
03:16You may have noticed
03:17regions are now divided into unique biomes,
03:20giving opportunities for various evolutions,
03:23but also having a real impact on your culture.
03:27The development of your cities
03:29is shaped both by your culture
03:30and by the biome in which they are established.
03:38Life in the desert is demanding.
03:40Our capital could face water shortages,
03:43making access to fresh water a priority.
03:46That's why it's necessary to build a well.
03:48As in humankind too,
03:50many resources are perishable
03:52and must be managed carefully.
03:55However, there is now a better option.
03:58Humankind too introduces the new adaptation system,
04:02which allows your culture to develop
04:04specialized traits and abilities
04:06inspired by the environments you inhabit.
04:09You can, for example,
04:11unlock a new custom
04:12that makes this very situation more bearable.
04:16Meanwhile, our second city
04:18is developing in a forest environment
04:19rich in food production.
04:22Specializing settlements
04:23according to their environment
04:24opens new strategic opportunities
04:27and creates meaningful interdependence
04:29across your empire.
04:32Relationships with neighboring civilizations
04:34remain essential.
04:35Trade, diplomacy, and cooperation
04:38can all lead to prosperity.
04:40However,
04:41conflict is sometimes unavoidable
04:43and we are currently at war with Persia.
04:47One of our most significant changes
04:49concerns culture evolutions.
04:51While it was a defining innovation
04:53of the first humankind,
04:55we listened carefully to player feedback
04:57and redesigned the system
04:59from the ground up.
05:00In humankind too,
05:03every culture has its own progression tree.
05:05Once unlocked,
05:07its traits, customs, and bonuses
05:09remain available to your civilization.
05:12Your history matters.
05:14The cultures available to you
05:16and the benefits you unlock
05:17are influenced by the choices
05:19you've made through exploration,
05:21settlement, diplomacy, and adaptation.
05:23One major change
05:25is that culture evolution
05:26is entirely optional.
05:28If you prefer,
05:29you can keep a single culture
05:31throughout the game.
05:32If you choose to evolve, however,
05:35your civilization becomes
05:36a unique combination
05:37of all the paths you've taken.
05:40Talking about choices,
05:42let's imagine that we tried
05:44a different path
05:44and our Egyptian settlers
05:46have established themselves
05:48in the frozen north.
05:50Confronted with a radically
05:51different environment,
05:53they must adapt.
05:54Nature becomes both a challenge
05:56and an opportunity.
05:59After meeting the Thule peoples
06:01of Greenland,
06:02they adopt new customs
06:03and technologies,
06:05including sled dog units
06:06that dramatically improve mobility
06:08across snow-covered terrain,
06:10enhancing their ability
06:11to explore and conquer
06:12these frozen lands.
06:14That's all for today.
06:16As you've seen,
06:17the team has listened closely
06:18to player feedback,
06:19to deliver a richer experience
06:21and give you even more tools
06:22to create your ultimate civilization.
06:26Stay tuned.
06:27We have much more to reveal
06:28in the coming weeks and months
06:30and we look forward
06:31to sharing it with you.
