00:00I'm sorry, but I don't want to be an emperor.
00:03That's not my business.
00:05I don't want to rule or conquer anyone.
00:08I should like to help everyone, if possible.
00:10Jew, Gentile, black man, white.
00:13We all want to help one another.
00:15Human beings are like that.
00:17We want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery.
00:20We don't want to hate and despise one another.
00:22In this world, there's room for everyone, and the good earth is rich
00:25and can provide for everyone.
00:27The way of life can be free and beautiful.
00:30But we have lost the way.
00:33Greed has poisoned men's souls,
00:35has barricaded the world with hate,
00:37has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed.
00:40We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in.
00:43Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want.
00:46Our knowledge has made us cynical,
00:48our cleverness hard and unkind.
00:50We think too much and feel too little.
00:53More than machinery, we need humanity.
00:55More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.
00:58Without these qualities, life will be violent, and all will be lost.
01:03The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together.
01:06The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men,
01:09cries out for universal brotherhood, for the unity of us all.
01:12Even now, my voice is reaching millions throughout the world,
01:15millions of despairing men, women, and little children,
01:18victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people.
01:23To those who can hear me, I say,
01:25do not despair.
01:27The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed,
01:30the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress.
01:33The hate of men will pass, and dictators die.
01:36And the power they took from the people will return to the people.
01:40And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.
01:45Soldiers, don't give yourselves to brutes,
01:48men who despise you, enslave you,
01:50who regiment your lives,
01:52tell you what to do, what to think, and what to feel,
01:54who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle,
01:56use you as cannon fodder.
01:58Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men,
02:01machine men with machine minds and machine hearts.
02:04You are not machines, you are not cattle, you are men.
02:08You have the love of humanity in your hearts.
02:10You don't hate, only the unloved hate,
02:12the unloved and the unnatural.
02:15Soldiers, don't fight for slavery, fight for liberty.
02:18In the 17th chapter of St. Luke, it is written,
02:20the kingdom of God is within man,
02:21not one man nor a group of men,
02:23but in all men, in you.
02:25You, the people, have the power.
02:27The power to create machines, the power to create happiness.
02:30You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful,
02:33to make this life a wonderful adventure.
02:36Then, in the name of democracy, let us use that power.
02:39Let us all unite.
02:40Let us fight for a new world, a decent world,
02:44that will give men a chance to work,
02:45that will give youth a future and old age a security.
02:48By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power,
02:51but they lie.
02:52They do not fulfill that promise.
02:54They never will.
02:55Dictators free themselves,
02:57but they enslave the people.
02:58Now, let us fight to fulfill that promise.
03:02Let us fight to free the world,
03:04to do away with national barriers,
03:06to do away with greed,
03:08with hate and intolerance.
03:09Let us fight for a world of reason,
03:12a world where science and progress
03:14will lead to all men's happiness.
03:17Soldiers, in the name of democracy,
03:19let us all unite!
03:34ếpitch!
03:36Gracias.
