00:02At the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum there is a new exhibition of Steve McQueen, 66-76-26.
00:09It is a reference that filmmaker and artist makes to the song Wild is the Wind performed
00:14by two artists, Nina Simone and David Bowie in 1966 and 1976.
00:26McQueen heard that song 30 years ago and dreamt to use it in his work.
00:31This exhibition is a sound sculpture, installation with no image, link between the decades, the emotion of love and understanding.
00:38But particularly now things seem very turbulent.
00:41And I think when things are very turbulent the things that you hold on to are the things which are
00:45precious to you, which is love.
00:46And again, I don't want to sound sort of corny, but it's important because that's the basis of us all
00:51in one way, shape, form or the other.
00:53That's what we crave and that's what we need.
00:55So to come back to a certain kind of understanding of love is important, at least for me.
01:05Knowing the lyrics are so important to the artist, it is not necessary for the visitor to be familiar with
01:11it, or even Simone, Bowie or McQueen at all, to experience this exhibition.
01:19This is an exhibition that's very experiential. It's about feeling. It's about being present. It's about slowing down and just
01:29receiving something.
01:34Steve McQueen's sound installation at Guggenheim Bilbao Museum is open until the 30th of February, 2027.
