00:32Welcome back to From the South. Torrential rains and flash floods have paralyzed parts of Istanbul,
00:38prompting emergency school closures and mass relief operations across the Turkish metropolis.
00:43Driving by a cold air mass from the Balkans and Mediterranean storm systems,
00:49heavy rainfall surpassed 190 liters per square meter in eastern districts,
00:54submerging roads and causing structural damage. At least two fatalities and multiple injuries
00:59were reported alongside over 1,200 localized flooding incidents. In response, the Istanbul
01:05Governor's Office deployed over 8,000 emergency personnel, suspended in-person classes, banned
01:12two-wheeled vehicles from roads and issued urgent shelter-in-place warnings for residents in low
01:18low-lying zones.
