00:25And for you will be watching the beginning tonight!
00:36It's opening night here on EA Sports.
00:40I'm John Butcher-Goss alongside Darren Pang.
00:42The preseason is over, and now the games count for real.
00:46And we begin tonight on Home Ice.
01:01So the fans settling in their seats for this one.
01:04The coaches have given their last bit of instruction.
01:07Now it's time to play hockey.
01:09The opening face-off for this one.
01:14The Kraken have won the draw to kick this game off.
01:19McCann! Big save there!
01:22That is a big-time stop right there from the slot.
01:25That's a real dangerous chance.
01:33And he gives it over to Mikheyev.
01:36Scooped up at the point.
01:38Here's the shot.
01:40Keeps it out with the glove.
01:42He absorbed that contact but never lost the puck.
01:44That's not easy at all when a defender's leaning on you
01:47and giving you a shove.
01:48But he stays strong and gets a quality chance on that.
01:52Everly into the bread basket.
01:55Play is stopped, and he'll take the face-off.
02:01Still plenty of time left in this frame.
02:04And we are scoreless.
02:050-0.
02:08Face-off win here in the defensive zone.
02:11Gets the return pass.
02:15Deflected away.
02:17The Kraken have picked it up here.
02:21Seattle's puck now along the boards.
02:24A good old-fashioned fight for possession along the wall
02:27as they try and dig out that puck.
02:31He can't squeeze his stick too tight.
02:33He hasn't scored a goal just yet, but it'll come.
02:36Seattle's picked it up along the wall.
02:38Moves quickly to Schwartz.
02:42Slides the puck across to Tucker.
02:47Slides the puck cradled by Marchment.
02:51And the linesman blows the whistle,
02:53and that's an icing, and the play is dead.
03:06Offensive zone.
03:07Face-off won.
03:08Winning that draw means they can put the pressure on
03:10after that icing call.
03:12Stay!
03:13The whistle blows.
03:15Gets the stoppage.
03:16And he'll take the face-off.
03:20Early clock here in the frame.
03:22No score in this one so far.
03:26And they win the offensive zone face-off.
03:30The crew have the puck along the boards.
03:34Puck picked up along the wall by Tucker.
03:41Picks it up and looks to make a play.
03:45Can't quite connect on that pass.
03:47And that's moved quickly to Smith.
03:55Intercepted by Samiskevich.
04:00Taken by Tucker.
04:02Quickly moves it to Hustodinov.
04:06That pass just out of reach.
04:10Nicely up to Smith.
04:12A good piece of him there.
04:17Seattle's got possession along the boards.
04:22Good play there on the pochef.
04:26Samiskevich.
04:27Score!
04:28Score!
04:49Oh, to be able to switch the hands like that and move it to the back end, that fools the
04:52goaltender and the defenseman.
04:54That is a world-class play.
05:11Well, there's a little marker for the new head coach who signed on in the offseason.
05:15First goal of the season under the new regime.
05:18And that's a nice little moment behind the bench, Bucci, because no matter when it comes, that first one under
05:22a new coach matters.
05:25Taken there now by D'Angelo.
05:28Oh, not quite.
05:30Just got enough of that one.
05:33Johansson's made the save and steered that puck right to the corner.
05:36A smart play to keep it out of danger.
05:38And there it goes now to Eberle.
05:41McCann.
05:43Seattle's come back up with possession.
05:45And the puck is covered up.
05:47The whistle blows.
05:48And we'll get a break here to our next face-off.
05:52Coming up on the halfway point of the frame.
05:54We've got a 1-0 score.
05:58Seattle's won the draw.
05:59They're looking to go to work here.
06:01And it's a delayed penalty.
06:04There's the whistle.
06:06Here comes the call from the referee.
06:08Oh, a penalty called right there.
06:10That's bad timing.
06:11They're already trailing by one.
06:24Seattle's power play unit is out there.
06:26And it's the first chance to see them in action tonight.
06:29Yeah, and this is their first power play opportunity here.
06:32So a real good chance to try and grab a little momentum
06:35and see what this special team group can do.
06:42So just moments away here as they're set to resume this one.
06:46And the penalty kill continues.
06:50Seattle's won the draw.
06:51And they'll look to attack.
06:53Save!
06:54Puck picked up by the PK unit.
06:56Looking to ice it.
06:58Tucker.
06:59And they clear the zone.
07:03In front.
07:04Sets it back up.
07:06Oh, what anticipation there!
07:11Montour.
07:12Close.
07:12Save by Johansson.
07:17Johansson's come up with a tremendous save.
07:19That's a high danger chance he was able to shut down,
07:22and you can see it on the replay.
07:23I like that he didn't panic at all.
07:25He tracked it beautifully,
07:26stayed composed in the crease,
07:28and read it perfectly to rise to the challenge.
07:33Big face-off here in the offensive zone,
07:35and they're looking to win it
07:36and fire one on a tired goalie.
07:39Yeah, after all that zone time,
07:41this is where you want to clean win, Gucci,
07:42and get it there quickly.
07:44Jammed up, and they battle for it along the boards.
07:49Stevenson!
07:50Denied!
07:51Play is stopped.
07:53We'll regroup
07:54and get ready for another face-off.
07:58So, we'll get set to drop the puck,
08:01and the power play will resume.
08:05Seattle's won the draw, and they have it.
08:14The Kraken have gained control along the wall,
08:17and he makes the save.
08:20Set all the way out of the defensive end.
08:23Lose the puck across to Toverman.
08:26Stevenson!
08:27Awful body.
08:28All kinds of mayhem in front of the goalie.
08:36Seattle's got the puck now behind the net.
08:39McMahon.
08:46The crew have the puck.
08:47They'll look to get it out of the zone.
08:53Toverman.
08:55And he slides it quickly over to right.
09:00McMahon!
09:01Slot saved by Joe Hanson!
09:03That is sharp goaltending right there.
09:06A really dangerous look from a prime area,
09:08but it's turned aside.
09:09So, players back in position here,
09:11and the power play will resume.
09:16The draw is won,
09:17and they take possession.
09:19And he sends it to Cologne.
09:21Up the wall now.
09:24Up the wall now.
09:27Buck picked up now in their own end
09:29with the power play time winding down.
09:32Done.
09:34And makes a pass to Montour.
09:37And here's a pass to Beneers.
09:39Penalty is over.
09:41Good job by the 2K unit.
09:43We are back at even strength.
09:45Boy, there was an awful lot to like there.
09:47The power play had the puck.
09:48They created several real good opportunities,
09:50and even though it runs out on them,
09:52that's the kind of sequence
09:53that can build some confidence.
09:55Whistle blows.
09:56Offside is the call,
09:57and the faceoff will come outside the zone.
10:03Seattle's off to a good start in this one.
10:05Here in the first period,
10:07getting pressure on net,
10:08plenty of shots on goal,
10:09and they have the lead.
10:11Neutral zone draw one,
10:12and they got the puck.
10:14And that's sent over to Benoit.
10:18The weight regroup,
10:20and here they go again.
10:23Tovanen!
10:24Denied!
10:26Johansson's able to hold his ground
10:27on that dangerous slot shot,
10:28and what a stop to keep it out.
10:31Benoit.
10:31And now he moves it to Lorenz.
10:37Johansson sends it over!
10:39Seattle's got the puck now behind the net.
10:46Sends it over to his defenseman.
10:49Back to the point here.
10:55Smith sends it over to his deep hair.
10:59And he quickly moves it to Tucker.
11:02Just wide!
11:05Baneers.
11:06Moves it up to Oleksiak.
11:09Tape to tape.
11:12Kako!
11:13Hope checked away nicely.
11:17Smith.
11:19Boosted Dinoff.
11:21Whistle blows,
11:22and we're offside.
11:29Play about to resume
11:30as we get set to face things off here.
11:37Seattle's won the draw,
11:38and play continues here.
11:42Dumps it deep into the opposite corner.
11:45Big hit!
11:46Just out of reach.
11:48And we're going to have an icing here
11:51as the whistle blows.
11:54Let's go back to that play again.
11:56You can see right here,
11:57the way he gets in,
11:58he's got good speed,
12:00he knows the guy he's targeting,
12:01and bang!
12:02He hits him.
12:03And you can tell that the momentum of the game
12:05has changed right then.
12:06The energy level has shifted dramatically.
12:09And they win the draw in their own end.
12:11That's a big win in the dots
12:12after the icing call.
12:13That gives them a chance
12:14to get it out in the game.
12:17Seattle's got the puck back along the boards.
12:20Nice play.
12:22Spooked up on the point.
12:26Harris.
12:29D'Angelo!
12:31Oh, another body part hit.
12:35Montour.
12:38Passes it!
12:40Can't handle that pass.
12:42Good defensive play there on the poke check.
12:47And the linesman blows the whistle,
12:49and that's an icing.
12:52You know what I like about this big hit?
12:54It's the recognition of the moment.
12:56They're behind,
12:57but it's still close.
12:58And that means a big collision like this
13:01can still matter.
13:02This is a player
13:02trying to stir it up a little bit,
13:04wake everybody up,
13:05and make sure the bench believes
13:07there's still a chance to get back even.
13:09Good.
13:09And he moves it to Zari.
13:11The Kraken have picked it up along the boards.
13:16Quick pass up.
13:18And he serves it across to McMahon.
13:22In three!
13:24What a save on the breakaway!
13:27He stands tall
13:27and shuts the door with a terrific stop.
13:35Marchment!
13:37Passes it off!
13:40D'Angelo!
13:41And he shuts down the one-timer!
13:44Here's another chance!
13:46Denial!
13:47Look at that repeat level right there.
13:49Coming up with one stop and then another.
13:52Quickly up to McMahon.
13:54McMahon!
13:56Good defensive play there on the post-check.
14:01And now he passes it over to Smith.
14:06Seattle's picked it up along the wall.
14:08Uses the post-check there.
14:10That's a nice defensive play.
14:13Corral by Hustodinov.
14:17Hustodinov!
14:17Quick save by DeCoyne!
14:22Gathered at the point now.
14:24He makes the save.
14:29Hustodinov picked up in the slot.
14:30Gotta get it out of there.
14:33And here comes...
14:38Goalmonger through for him this season.
15:00And this is the great part of a female hockey.
15:02Chance after chance at one end of the ice.
15:05So close.
15:06They're getting everything they got.
15:07But then, there's a goal at the other end of the ice.
15:17The crew have been working really hard to get back into this one.
15:22Showing great resiliency.
15:23They've tied it up late in the period.
15:26And now it's over to Tolvenin.
15:29And here's a pass to McCann.
15:31Here's the pass.
15:33Gets it with the glove.
15:35Hangs on to that puck.
15:37We'll get ready for another face-off as the whistle blows.
15:43Closing seconds of this frame.
15:45We are all tied up in this one.
15:50Face-off one, and they take possession.
15:53Lorenz.
15:56Sweet little play there by Lorenz.
16:05And a good defensive play there on the poke check.
16:14Horn sounds, period ends, and the players will head to the dressing rooms
16:20for refreshments and adjustments and get ready for the next one.
16:24We'll clean the ice and regroup and have it for you right after this.
16:29Oh, man.
16:30It has a lot of fun.
16:31There's a lot of fun.
16:31It's a lot of fun.

42:28Seattle's going to have to stay patient here, Bucci, because the difference so far has been the goalie at the
42:33other end.
42:34That save percentage tells the story of this one.
42:36When a goalie is tracking it like that, you can't get frustrated.
42:39You've just got to keep pressing and try to bury it.
42:41Lorenz.
42:50Popped it away.
42:54Jammed up, and they battle for it along the boards.
42:58Loose puck and now a race to get there.
43:02Nice little dish.
43:03And he slides it quickly to Mikheyev.
43:06Can't connect that pass there.
43:11Eberle.
43:13Eberle.
43:14Steered aside.
43:15A long stretch pass to Johansson.
43:19Just out of reach.
43:24Oh, nice poke check there.
43:46Early part of this one.
43:48The lead stretches the three.
43:50Four to one.
43:54Seattle's got that face off, and they take possession.
43:58And they circle in back.
44:00And that's moved quickly to Kako.
44:04The crew have gathered it up in the defensive zone.
44:10And the linesman blows the whistle, and that's it icy.
44:15Johansson's been dialed in all game long.
44:17Just making the timely big save when he's had to.
44:20And that's such a lift for your group.
44:22Because when your goaltender comes up with those key stops,
44:24it settles everybody down.
44:26That calmness lets you defend a little better.
44:28You play with more confidence,
44:29and it can really swing momentum in your favor.
44:40Linesman calling the players in.
44:42About to drop the puck.
44:45Offensive zone.
44:46Face off one.
44:48Has it stick left?
44:49Got it.
44:50The whistle blows.
44:52Gets the stoppage.
44:53And he'll take the face off.
44:58Still early in this one.
45:004-1 is the score, and this has been entertaining.
45:04And they win the offensive zone face off.
45:08The crew have come up with it now.
45:13Sends the pass up.
45:15Marchment.
45:17And Barrett goes now to Tucker.
45:20Nice read.

45:24Say!
45:25Just got enough of that one.
45:31Seattle's got control of the puck in the defensive zone.
45:35They glide in the D zone.
45:40Ripped.
45:41Just wide.
45:49Alexiak.
45:50Alexiak.
45:51Score!
46:11Oh, what a deke. Goaltender had no chance.
46:13He was swimming like you read about right there.
46:15And that little deke goes right inside the post.
46:36The Kraken have been preaching all year.
46:3860-minute effort didn't start like that in this one.
46:42But that goal right there has them within two.
46:45And now there's some light at the end of the tunnel.
46:52The crew have it, and they'll attack.
47:03And a nice po-check there.
47:06Smith!
47:07Save!
47:15Mid-point just around the corner.
47:18It's 4-2 right now.
47:21Seattle's won the faceoff in their own end, and they have it.
47:25Quick take-to-take to Eberle.
47:28Eberle!
47:29That's an athlete!
47:31And the puck is covered up.
47:33The whistle blows.
47:34And we'll get a break here until our next faceoff.
47:38Seattle's got to like their offense.
47:40They're getting more shots on goal, but they just haven't cashed in.
47:44They trail midway through the third.
47:46Faceoff won, and they take possession.
47:49D'Angelo.
47:51Now quickly to Hustedinov.
47:55Scooped up by Polvinin.
47:58Takes it in the defensive zone.
48:03Smith!
48:04Blocked away by DeCole!
48:09Gathered in by Eberle.
48:11Feeds it across!
48:13Kept out with the glove.
48:21Miramana.
48:22And now he passes up to Smith.
48:25Smith!
48:30Puck scooped up along the wall by Eberle.
48:32And he gives it over to McCann.
48:35Timely po-check there by Miramana.
48:39Puck picked up behind the net.
48:42And he slides it quickly over to Lorenz.
48:47Quick dish to Stevenson.
48:49The crew have picked it up here.
48:52And he sends it to Lorenz.
49:01Feeds it to Kakko.
49:04Drives the net.
49:06Play is stopped.
49:08We'll regroup.
49:09And get ready for another faceoff.
49:14Midway point of the frame coming up.
49:164-2.
49:17Offense on display.
49:19Seattle's won the Ozone draw.
49:22The crew have picked it up along the boards.
49:26Tucker.
49:27And makes a pass to Chisholm.
49:30Chisholm.
49:32Callender!
49:33Steered aside.
49:36He's all alone!
49:38And that won't get through.
49:41Looks to pass it to Chisholm.
49:43That's grabbed by Cunnan.
49:45Steered away.
49:47What a smart save there.
49:48Not only does he make the stop,
49:50he steers it right to the corner
49:51and out of danger.
49:53Sends it over!
49:54Quickly up to Beneers.
50:00He has it now along the point.
50:02Blocked in front.
50:04Never saw that one coming.
50:06He leaves the stick out
50:07and disrupts the play.
50:10Miramana.
50:15Pustadinos!
50:16Nice save by Decorne!
50:19I'll tell you what,
50:20that's a big-time stop.
50:22From the low slot,
50:22things happen quickly,
50:23but the goalie's ready for it.
50:27Loose to Dinov.
50:29Marchman!
50:30Captain brings the post!
50:33Done.
50:35Nice take to take.
50:39Nicely up to McMahon.
50:41Saved.
50:43Hangs on to that puck.
50:45Will get ready for another face-off
50:47as the whistle blows.
50:49The Jets on deck
50:50as the season continues here.
50:53If you want to check them out,
50:54get your tickets and come on out.
50:56Seattle's in need of some goals here.
50:59Getting more shots on goal,
51:01but not cashing in.
51:02They trail midway through the third.
51:04Lose it up to Nyquist.
51:07Nyquist!
51:26Yeah, and on the repo there,
51:27you can see this puck goes in
51:28right off the defender's skate.
51:48Players are set.
51:50About to face-off
51:51and resume play here.
51:56Face-off run
51:57and control of the puck is theirs.
52:00And here's a pass to Sam Eskevich.
52:05Nyquist!
52:06Denied!
52:07And that's taken by Evans.
52:10Big hit.
52:11There's the physical side
52:13you expect from a power forward,
52:14and he delivered that one
52:15with some serious purpose.
52:17Good stop by Bacord.
52:19Evans!
52:21Slides the pass over to Stevenson.
52:24The crew have the puck
52:26in their own end.
52:33Seattle's got the puck back
52:34along the boards,
52:35and he sends it right to Goudreau.
52:38And that's picked up by D'Angelo.
52:41Beautiful little play.
52:43Pass disrupted by the stick.
52:47Pope checked away by Harris.
52:53Johansson tipped out
52:55by the netminder.
52:57Quickly up to Evans.
53:00Broken up on the Pope check
53:02by Cologne.
53:03And now he moves it to Goudreau.
53:07Sam Eskevich!
53:09Club saved by Johansson!
53:15What a hit that is!
53:16The kind of hit that changed
53:17the momentum of the entire shift
53:19right there.
53:20And they needed that.
53:21He's that kind of
53:22ferocious score checker
53:24that gets in on the hunt
53:25and bangs around bodies.
53:27Late in the period now,
53:28and it's a 5-2 score.
53:33Seattle's won the draw,
53:34and they'll look to attack.
53:36Shot!
53:37Locked in front,
53:38right in the shooting lane.
53:40Excellent play.
53:41Tape to tape to Lorenz.
53:47Can't quite connect there.
53:53Toven in!
53:54Off the club and out!
53:56And he moves it to Lorenz.
53:58Whistle blows,
53:59and it looks like
54:00we have a penalty.
54:04No, this isn't going very well.
54:06I mean, they're going uphill
54:07and against the wind.
54:09Trailing by that many goals,
54:10and now they're taking a penalty.
54:12Oh boy.
54:18See, Paceoff just about set.
54:21Another power play opportunity.
54:23Yeah, and that earlier power play goal
54:25is giving them confidence.
54:26So now they get another opportunity
54:28right off the draw
54:28to go back to work.
54:31Seattle's gotten along the wall.
54:33Loose puck,
54:34and now a race to get there.
54:36The crew have the puck along the boards.
54:45Puck picked up in the defensive zone.
54:47He'll head up the ice on the power play.
54:50Can't quite connect on that pass.
55:02Puck picked up in their own end now,
55:04looking to clear.
55:07And that puck is sent out.
55:09Pick up the puck in their own zone,
55:11and they head north on the power play.
55:16And we are down to one minute to go now
55:18in the third.
55:19Gets the whistle.
55:21Play is stopped.
55:22And we'll get ready for another faceoff.
55:24That just shows you
55:25what kind of a battler he is.
55:27There's nothing perfect about that,
55:28except he never gave up.
55:29He never quit.
55:30What a great save.
55:47Players all set for the faceoff,
55:49and the power play will resume.
55:56Seattle's won the draw,
55:57and they take possession.
55:59Has it now along the wall.
56:02Dumps the puck into the offensive end.
56:05The crew have gained control along the wall.
56:09Good shot.
56:10Saved.
56:12Broken up on the poke check by Wright.
56:15Well, this is just an excellent poke check here,
56:17and that is not easy in a high-danger situation.
56:19As a defender,
56:20you've got to have the timing
56:21and the reach of your stick just right,
56:23and he disrupts that chance perfectly.
56:26Crisp short pass to Johansson.
56:31Hope checked away by Zari.
56:34Marchman gets the whistle,
56:36and he'll take the faceoff.
56:42So players back in position here,
56:44and the power play will resume.
56:49And they win the draw in their own end,
56:51and he serves it across to Sam Miskevich.
56:56Dumps the puck in deep.
56:59The crew have picked it up along the board.
57:04And as the time winds down,
57:06this crowd is on their feet,
57:08showing the love to their team tonight.
57:11Crisp short pass to Nyquist.
57:14Powered over.
57:15We're back to even strength here.
57:16That's exactly what you want from your kill.
57:19Get the job done.
57:20Get everybody energized,
57:21and hand a little momentum back to your bench.
57:24And there's the final horn ending this game.
57:28Derek, that was textbook.
57:30From beginning to end,
57:32the plan worked perfectly.
57:34Oh, I thought that was an exhibition, Gucci.
57:36I mean, everything from the skating to the passing
57:39to the technical aspect of it
57:41to the neutral zone coverage
57:42to the goaltending.
57:43I mean, the stars showed up to play,
57:46and the grinders were grinding like you read about.
57:49What a performance.
57:50Another great game is in the books.
57:52Thanks so much for watching.
57:54For Darren Pang, I'm John Butchercross.
57:56This has been a presentation of EA Sports.
