00:00Going up against a lot of money. This race reminds me of that story in the Bible of a shepherd
00:05boy
00:06who goes up against a giant. For 40 days, Goliath taunts and teases. On the day of the fight,
00:13he shows up in full armor. He's carrying so many weapons, he has to get someone else to hold his
00:19shield. We are going up against our own Goliaths, those billionaire mega donors, those corporate
00:25PACs, the entire Washington, D.C. establishment. Their power is real, but so is ours.
00:43David may not have been as big or as strong as Goliath. He may not have had as many weapons,
00:48but he had hope and he had a slingshot. You are my slingshot.
00:57The people of Texas are my slingshot. And on November 3rd, those Goliaths aren't going to
01:06know what hit them. I am so, so happy to be back home in Central Texas. Last night,
01:17last night, I was in Fort Worth for a live town hall with CNN, where I took questions directly
01:28from Texas voters. Because if you're applying for the job of U.S. Senator, if you're applying
01:35for the job of representing 31 million Texans, you should show up to the job interview.
01:46But as you probably know, one person wasn't there. Attorney General Ken Paxton.
01:55Ken Paxton showed up in London for the 4th of July to party with the British. He showed up in
02:06Dubai for
02:08New Year's Eve to party with his fugitive friends. He will literally show up anywhere but a debate stage
02:17here in Texas. You have my word. I will always show up for you. I will always listen to you.
02:32And I will always fight for you. We are building a movement to take back our state and take back
02:45our
02:45country. We are uniting. We are uniting Texans from all backgrounds and beliefs onto one team to take
02:53on this broken, corrupt political system. I have traveled to every corner of this state over the
03:07last year. I've gone from Beaumont to El Paso. I've gone from Amarillo to Brownsville and everywhere in
03:16between big cities and small towns, red areas and blue areas alike. And we have had tens of thousands
03:24of Texans showing up to rally with us. I stay till the very end of all these events. I get
03:30to hear
03:30from folks directly. I cannot tell you the number of people who come up to me at the end of
03:36these
03:36events and whisper, I'm not a Democrat. Like they're in the witness protection program.
03:45I can't tell you the number of young people who come up to me and say it's the first political
03:50event they've ever attended. That, that, that is how we change the politics of this state and of this
04:03country. We, we have recruited more than 60,000 volunteers who are knocking on doors and making
04:10phone calls and writing text messages. And if you haven't yet, when you go home tonight, I hope you will
04:15visit our website and sign up to volunteer yourself. And we have shattered grassroots fundraising records
04:22all without taking, all, all without taking a dime from corporate PACs. This is a people powered campaign.
04:40And on November 3rd, we are going to do something extraordinary. We are going to do something
04:47historic. We are going to end 30 years of one party rule in this state.
05:03And, and we are going to elect a Senator who's going to serve all 31 million Texans.
05:09We, we've, we've forgotten that that's what politics is supposed to be about.
05:16It's supposed to be about service. Elected officials aren't supposed to serve themselves.
05:22They're not supposed to serve their mega donors. They are supposed to serve us. They are supposed
05:27to serve the people we have strayed from that. I first learned the meaning of service from my great
05:35grandfather, my poppy. He was a barber in Port O'Connor, Texas on the Gulf coast. And he served this
05:43country in World War II in the Pacific theater. Poppy was a member of the greatest generation,
05:50a group of Americans who asked not what their country could do for them, but what they could
05:56do for their country. And whether he was cutting his neighbor's hair or fighting fascism on the other
06:03side of the world, Poppy was always serving other people. He was a, a faithful man. That's the best
06:11word I can think of to describe him. He was a devout Christian. And he tried to actually live like
06:18Jesus who in the words of scripture came not to be served, but to serve. And that's how my poppy
06:26lived his life. My poppy came not to be served, but to serve. And that's, that's what inspired me to
06:39go
06:39in to public service first as a public school teacher on the west side of San Antonio.
06:49And now as a public official in the Texas house, I entered the classroom in the fall of 2011, right
06:57after
06:57the Texas legislature cut more than $5 billion from public education. I saw, I saw the impact of those cuts
07:09firsthand. I saw programs get eliminated. I saw students slip through the cracks. I saw class sizes grow. At one
07:17point,
07:17I had 45 students in one classroom. There weren't enough desks for all those kids. So I had students sitting
07:26on the air
07:26conditioning unit in the wealthiest country in human history. In the 21st century, children sitting on the air
07:35conditioning unit. And that made me mad. I ended up leading an education nonprofit here in central Texas.
07:42And then when a seat in that very same legislature that had cut those $5 billion from our public schools
07:49opened up in my hometown of Round Rock, Texas, I threw my hat in the ring. Shout out Round Rock.
07:56Biggest donuts in the world.
08:01I threw my hat in the ring. I was 28 years old. I had never run for office before. I
08:06was a Democrat
08:06running in a Trump district in a county that was so red, it hadn't voted for a Democrat for president
08:13since Jimmy Carter. I was told by the powers that be in the Democratic Party that that race was a
08:20lost
08:20cause. I was told that even if it was possible to flip a district like that, I was too young.
08:25I didn't have the money. I didn't have the political connections to pull off an upset like
08:30that. But my neighbors and I, we ran an aggressive, authentic, at times unorthodox campaign that brought
08:40people together. And on election night, we flipped that district with 51% of the vote.
08:51And now, and now I'm in my fourth term in the Texas House where I have brought Democrats and
09:00Republicans together to pass 60 bipartisan bills, bills that lower the cost of housing, the cost of
09:08childcare, the cost of prescription drugs, including insulin bills that raise teacher pay and cut property
09:14taxes. I, I ran for office, not to be served, but to serve. And then, and then there's Ken Paxton,
09:28the most, the most corrupt politician in Texas. You may know that three years ago, Ken Paxton was
09:36impeached by his own party, by his fellow Republicans for using his public office, his position of public
09:44trust to enrich himself and his donors at the expense of the people of Texas. Ken Paxton represents
09:51everything that's wrong with this broken, corrupt political system. He doesn't serve us. He serves
09:58himself. You may have seen the reporting that since taking office, Ken Paxton has increased his net worth
10:04by $27 million. You may have seen the reporting that as a public official, Ken Paxton now owns 15 homes
10:15while most Texans struggle to afford one. It's, it's hard. It's hard to get 15 homes in a game of
10:22monopoly. I don't know how Ken Paxton got 15 homes. He has taken bribes from wealthy donors all while he
10:31blocks overtime pay for Texas workers and guts our healthcare. This, this is the rot at the core of
10:39this broken system. It's why so many Texans can't get ahead no matter how hard they work. It's why we
10:46can't afford the basics in this economy. We have an affordability crisis because we have a corruption
10:54crisis. We can't afford
11:06because, because for five decades now, billionaire mega donors have been buying politicians in both
11:13political parties. And then those puppets turn around and rig the rules of the economy in favor
11:19of those mega donors at our expense. They've been doing it. They've been stealing from the American
11:25people for five decades with their bribes, with their bailouts, with their billionaire tax breaks.
11:32Trickle down economics is not a theory. It is theft.
11:45We, we can't afford gas or groceries or healthcare because the system has been rigged by billionaires
11:54and corrupt politicians like Ken Paxton. I in the state house have brought both parties together to cut
12:02your taxes and cap the cost of insulin. But we got to do a lot more than that.
12:12This election is about whether we will have a senator who puts money in your pocket
12:17or puts money in their own. Together we can beat the most corrupt politician in Texas
12:23and make life affordable again.
12:36We are going up against a lot. These mega donors have already spent 200 million dollars to try to
12:43defeat this movement that we're building in Texas. They are pouring so much money into this race. They're
12:48spending money on attack ads, making me look like a real scary guy.
12:55They are spending their money misleading the people of this state. They are spending their money to buy
13:01this election and we can't let them. The reason they're doing this is because they know that I
13:08don't work for them. I don't take corporate PAC money and I never will.
13:16They know they know that when we win this race, we are going to ban corporate PACs and super PACs
13:27so
13:27they can't flood our elections with their money. They know they know they know that we are going to
13:36ban members of Congress in both parties from trading stocks and enriching themselves while they're in
13:41public office. They know they know we are going to ban gerrymandering in every state in the union,
13:50red states and blue states.
13:55No, and they know that we are gerrymandering in every
14:01limits.
14:06Can you hear me now?
14:07And they know that we are going to pass term limits so we can show career politicians
14:19going up against a lot of money. This race reminds me of that story in the Bible of a shepherd
14:26boy who
14:26goes up against a giant for 40 days, Goliath taunts and teases on the day of the fight. He shows
14:34up in
14:34full armor. He's carrying so many weapons. He has to get someone else to hold his shield.
14:40We are going up against our own Goliaths, those billionaire mega donors, those corporate PACs,
14:46the entire Washington DC establishment. Their power is real, but so is ours.
15:03David may not have been as big or as strong as Goliath. He may not have had as many weapons,
15:08but he had hope and he had a slingshot. You are my slingshot.
15:17The people of Texas are my slingshot. And on November 3rd, those Goliaths aren't going to know what hit
15:27him. We have, we have so much work to do, Sam Marcus, so much work to do, but I am
15:41confident.
15:41I feel it in my bones that if we do that work, we are going to win this election on
15:47November 3rd,
15:48and we're going to elect a senator who will serve.
15:50Thank you for being here. God bless you. Let's go win this thing. Thank you.
