For a hundred years, the White Wolf Court of the North has failed to summon a Direwolf, teetering on the brink of extinction. Princess Lyra is sold by her father as a marriage bargaining chip to Kaelen, the most feared Black Iron warmonger of the South — a cold, domineering man who commands Direwolves. Before their wedding night, Lyra's former fiancé tries to assault her, and Kaelen freezes him to shards in public.
