00:00With PlayStation moving away from physical game releases, there's been a lot of discussion
00:04about one pivotal question, is a digital game something you own?
00:08And the answer is not always particularly clear, so PlayStation fans are compiling evidence
00:13of every time Sony has told them they own their digital games, archiving every last
00:19receipt.
00:19It's connected to an ongoing class action lawsuit, which centers on California's AB2426,
00:25a law that requires digital sellers to make it clear when customers are buying a license
00:30rather than owning a digital product.
00:33While Sony's terms of service are clear that it's a digital software licensed, not sold,
00:38PlayStation's own storefront and support pages frequently use language of ownership.
00:43For example, Sony refers to an eligible digital PS4 game you already own.
00:48When explaining PS5 upgrades, another PlayStation support page says that selected games that
00:53you own can be streamed to your PS5 or PlayStation portal.
00:57Sony argues that reasonable consumers would not be misled by this, but you can see how
01:02the language used around purchasing these games could give consumers a different impression
01:06about ownership.
01:08What are your thoughts on digital game ownership?
