02:14Rick, good morning.
02:15Good morning, Joe.
02:16Good morning, everybody.
02:1741 degrees under sunny skies.
02:19The sun will give away to some increasing clouds today.
02:22It'll be mild with highs 65 to 70.
02:24They deliberated for an hour and a half,
02:27and in the end, Albany County Court jurors returned a verdict of not guilty.
02:30In the case of 29-year-old Jeffrey Williams of Cohoes,
02:34Williams had been charged with murder for the 1986 killing of 40-year-old Rose Taleo of Troy.
02:40A 5-year-old Colony boy is dead,
02:42and eight others were injured following a three-vehicle accident on Central Avenue.
02:46Colony police say Nicholas Esposito was pronounced dead at Albany Med.
02:49He was a passenger in one of two cars that were struck by a van traveling eastbound,
02:54which crossed the center line near Route 155.
02:57Dispatcher Matthew Peterson identifies the driver of the van as Joseph G. Hope of 3rd Street in Troy.
03:04Joseph Hope has currently been charged with driving while intoxicated.
03:07Failures keep right across the pavement parking.
03:12Peterson says other charges may be filed against Hope.
03:15The investigation continues.
03:17A Westburn woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Knox.
03:21Albany County Sheriff's deputies say the 34-year-old Kathleen Clark died
03:24when her car was struck by a pickup truck driven by 19-year-old Daniel Case of Medusa.
03:30Deputies say charges may be pending against Case.
03:32Two passengers in the Clark vehicle suffered injury.
03:36It appears Congress is going to miss Monday's deadline established by the Grand-Rubman deficit cutting law.
03:41The Senate last night finally passed its deficit reduction bill,
03:45but still has to reconcile that measure with a very different House version.
03:50A compromise would have to go to the president by Monday to prevent $16 billion in spending cuts from automatically
03:56taking effect.
03:56But the House is away for the weekend.
03:59Still, congressional leaders are not worried.
04:01They say they'll simply roll back the spending cuts later.
04:04Analysts around the world are of different minds about what to expect after yesterday's stock plunge on Wall Street.
04:11The Dow Jones Industrials dropped nearly 200 points,
04:14and today, the Times of London says businessmen should brace themselves for a rerun of the 1987 crash.
04:21However, experts in Hong Kong are more optimistic.
04:23They say the U.S. problem will not affect their trading.
04:27U.S. analysts meantime say a fail to take over by United Airlines' parent company in part led to the
04:33selling spree in the market's final hour.
04:35But the potential airline buyers say the deal is not dead yet.
04:39The group representing United's pilots and management says the failure to secure financing is just a temporary setback.
04:46Thousands of South African activists are hoping their government makes good this weekend on a promise to release eight jailed
04:52black leaders.
04:53At least 250,000 people are expected to join today's victory marches, marking the possible releases.
04:59South Coast residents and weather prognosticators alike are eyeing Tropical Storm Jerry.
05:05The season's 10th storm is several hundred miles off the coast, packing sustained winds of 70 miles an hour.
05:11Jerry could become a hurricane later today.
05:14More anti-American protests in Seoul.
05:17The citizens are demanding that Washington recall U.S. Ambassador David Gregg.
05:22The alliance said the attack was the will of the people, and it demanded the United States recall, Gregg, and
05:28withdraw all American troops from South Korea.
05:31The AP's Barry Renfrew.
05:33The U.S. Coast Guard says it seized a fishing boat near Puerto Rico with as much as 2,000
05:37pounds of marijuana.
05:39Four Columbia nationals were on board and are now being held by federal agents.
05:43Keith St. John's narrowest of narrow primary victory will stand.
05:47State Supreme Court Justice Joseph Harris ruled that incumbent Second Ward Alderman Arthur Scott was unable to support allegations of
05:54widespread voter fraud in the Second Ward.
05:56Scott had filed suit seeking to throw out last month's primary results and to order a new election.
06:03Evangelist Billy Graham has been honored in Hollywood with his very own star on the Walk of Fame.
06:07Officials there note that Graham has contributed much to radio, TV, and film.
06:12And big band composer and pianist Carmen Cavalero is dead of cancer.
06:17He was 76.
06:18Cavalero penned such songs as Wanda and Masquerade Waltz.

20:09For Roxanne and Herbert Pulitzer, their love stories started out like a fairy tale,
20:13except nobody lived happily ever after.
20:16For eight years, Herbert Pulitzer and I lived a charm of life.
20:18We were madly in love.
20:20We had two beautiful children.
20:22Plenty of money to do whatever we liked.
20:24We had it all.
20:25So what went wrong?
20:26Based on the divorce that shocked the nation,
20:29Roxanne, the prize Pulitzer.
20:30It's funny how being so carefree can make us so careless.
20:33A world premiere movie, Monday at 9, 8 Central Mountain, only on NBC.

20:41There's one that could earn you a few smackers.

20:59So use the Discover card.
21:01After all, everyone needs a few extra.
21:05Sawbucks.
21:06It pays to Discover.
21:08The card that pays you back.
21:22WBZA.
21:25Raindrops on roses.
21:26And whiskers on kittens.
21:28Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens.
21:32Brown paper packages tied up with strings.
21:35These are a few of my favorite things.
21:39Thank you for making us a special part of your day.
21:42Real music here on AM 1230, WBZA.
21:49Well, I have sympathy for people who are in the barge industry or whatever and are out of jobs and
21:57they want jobs.
21:58I have sympathy for that, but the fact of the matter is that we can't go that route.
22:03You're quite right.
22:04We cannot go that route.
22:05We have to look at the environment first.
22:07The jobs will have to be constructed somehow around the idea of a healthy environment.
22:13Oh, yeah.
22:14Also, when coal is burnt, there are hundreds of gases that are not monitored at all.
22:23There are only, I think, six or seven or eight that are monitored.
22:27Most of that monitoring is done by the industry itself.
22:33And the other crazy part about all of this is that within 10 years, there is going to be technology
22:38available.
22:39That's right.
22:39Which will make coal burning probably a feasible solution.
22:43That's right.
22:44And so why do it now?
22:45Why make life?
22:47Exactly.
22:48Well, we're in agreement.
22:50Yes.
22:51I just wanted to respond.
22:55Obviously, you've paid attention to this.
22:58I appreciate it.
22:59463-1111.
23:01You're next on QBK.
23:02Hello.
23:03Yes.
23:03Earlier today, you made a statement that more women are for abortion than against.
23:08And, you know, I don't know if that is true or not.
23:11But I think maybe they were for it before, but now they're starting to have a big turnout
23:18because of all these groups who are post-abortion.
23:23Well, first of all, I didn't say more women are for abortion than against.
23:26I said more women are pro-choice than not.
23:29Well.
23:30In other words, more women do not want laws saying that no one can have an abortion
23:35than there are women who want laws that say no one can have an abortion.
23:40And that's been backed up by every survey that I've seen.
23:45Well, I won't disregard with those words that you're using,
23:48but I think that because of the language that people do use with choice,
23:54that there is a lot of confusion.
23:56Now, there was this one woman, her name was Kathy Bartlett,
24:00and she had an abortion when she was 16 years old.
24:03And she was under the impression that she, that the baby was an egg yolk.
24:09And after she had the abortion, she went home,
24:11and on her sanitary, she was horrified because she found there was a baby.
24:16She had arms and legs and tiny hands and feet,
24:19and he was three inches long,
24:20and she thought his little nose was on his head.
24:24And she went to his hysterics after she found this out.
24:28And I think the more this happens to women,
24:32they're going to have more women who are against the choice of aborting a baby
24:39than they are a fellow because this is how...
24:41So then we'll have a society where we have hundreds of thousands of women
24:46committing suicide, trying to abort themselves,
24:49creating incredible personal horror and terror.
24:52And that's not a very good option either, is it?
24:54Well, why would you have that option?
24:57Because that's the way it was before.
24:59Where? You didn't have as many women now.
25:01You never had all of this that you have today.
25:03One study showed, indicated, I don't know if it can be proved or not,
25:07but one study indicated that before you had abortion as a choice, a legal choice,
25:13you had about a million abortions a year in any case.
25:15The difference was that many women died from them.
25:18There were many of them were backstreet or self-induced.
25:22Many situations occurred where women ended up in hospitals,
25:25ended up being infertile for the rest of their lives.
25:28The emotional trauma can't even be measured.
25:31I don't think that's a very good society in which to live.
25:33Well, how about now, if you say, you agree with those statistics, which I don't,
25:39but say that we do agree with your statistics.
25:42Now we have doctors who are doing the same thing as they did before.
25:47We have more women who are being traumatized,
25:51and that's what we're trying to prevent before them being traumatized.
25:54We have more who are traumatized, more who are under the impression that this is just a blob.
25:58And so you think that by outlying abortion, you're going to not traumatize women?
26:03Well, I think that women should be told the truth.
26:07That abortion, what abortion really is,
26:10they're being used words from Warwell and Newspeak words,
26:17you know, that this is just tissue or egg yolk or fertilized egg.
26:24You know, they're not being told what it actually is.
26:26And I have yet to see on TV or in the newspaper yet
26:30what is the actual consequences of an abortion.
26:34During the Vietnam War, you had reporters going over there,
26:37and we've seen actual footage of all the things that happened at the war.
26:41And until we see the actual footage of an abortion from it, what actually happened,
26:47you're going to see a woman protesting against women having the abortion
26:53because they're hurting themselves.
26:54I don't think anybody has ever had an abortion
26:57who did not realize that if they did not have that abortion,
26:59they would have had a chance at least of having a child.
27:02I don't think anybody ever did not understand that.
27:06I think there are women today who do not understand it.
27:09Now, when I have...
27:10No, come on, come on, come on, give me a break.
27:12A woman is pregnant and she doesn't understand
27:14that if she does not have an abortion,
27:16that she's got a good chance, a probable chance of having a baby?
27:19I think today's society...
27:21Give me a break.
27:23Today's society, we are telling the young people,
27:27misreading them by saying,
27:30oh, they don't use babies.
27:32You know, they use tissue, menstrual extraction.
27:36Yeah, they do use things like that.
27:38I don't agree, but everybody knows
27:40that if you don't have the abortion,
27:41you're going to have a baby.
27:43That's why you have the abortion in the first place.
27:45I don't really think that they do.
27:47I think that when you get young kids
27:49and the way they train them today,
27:51that they don't think that that is really what...
27:54So it's okay about you to have those young kids have those babies?
27:58I think it's better for them to have the baby
28:00than to find out later it was a child
28:03that they killed their own child.
28:04That would be worse.
28:05Okay.
28:05They had it.
28:06I've got your opinion.
28:07I don't want to thank you for it.
28:09I appreciate it.
28:1013 minutes before 4 o'clock, 463-1111.
28:14And right now, there's no one on the line.
28:15If you want to give me a call,
28:17now is the time.
28:18The abortion is not the topic of the hour.
28:20It's an open line.
28:22Just a week or two ago,
28:25there was a medieval fair.
28:28That's right.
28:29A medieval fair in Saratoga.
28:33The medieval fair was to benefit the American Cancer Society.
28:37That was the point of it.
28:41But the people who were going to put on the fair were bad.
28:47That's right.
28:48Why?
28:50Well, they didn't like the word medieval.
28:53They thought medieval sounded evil
28:56because they didn't understand what the term was
28:59and because they probably never got past the 7th grade.
29:02They didn't like the tarot card reading.
29:04Well, that's what they did in medieval times.
29:07They thought the whole thing was somehow,
29:09I don't know,
29:10I don't know if they used the word a lot,
29:11but it seemed like they thought it was a little bit satanic or something.
29:16Medieval.
29:18So again, what we do
29:22is we bow to these forces
29:26and the sponsors of the medieval fair removed
29:28tarot card readings and other things
29:31that a bunch of small group of hysterical boneheads got upset about.
29:40And again, we bow to ignorance.
29:43And the ironic thing is that we bow to medieval thinking.
29:48And that's a fact.
29:52We've got over 500 of them coast-to-coast.
29:53Hi, Tom Bodette from Motel 6 with an observation.
29:56You know, the world with its constant ebb and flow
29:59can sure be a pretty hectic place to live.
30:01With interest rates rising and falling like a fire pressure gauge
30:05at your Uncle Buck's service station
30:06and all the conflicting views on the future of the economy,
30:10it's sure nice to have a few constants,
30:12like Motel 6.
30:13In fact, we've got over 500 of them coast-to-coast.
30:17And no matter what the exchange rate
30:19for drachmar yen is running at this week,
30:22Motel 6 will always have the lowest prices
30:25of any national change.
30:26About 4,000 drachmar,
30:283,500 yen,

30:31But to make it easy,
30:33it's always around 24 blocks.
30:35And our rooms are always clean and comfortable, too.
