🏛️ What happened to Rome’s Ninth Legion?

Legio IX Hispana served across the Roman world and was stationed in Britain, with evidence of its presence at York continuing into the early second century CE. A dated inscription from around AD 108 is among the last clear traces of the legion in Britain.

After that, its fate becomes uncertain. Some theories place its end in northern Britain; others explore the possibility that it moved to continental Europe or an eastern province. Recent scholarship continues to examine the evidence, but there is no conclusive answer.

This cinematic 3D CGI reconstruction explores the Ninth Legion’s disappearance without presenting a popular legend as settled fact.
