This feature film highlights the exemplary deeds of Gu Wenchang, a model of "governing for the public good and serving the people." Written by renowned author Liang Xiaosheng, the film *Public Servant* (*Gongpu*) stars Feng Guoqing as this outstanding Communist Party member, with Hou Yong in a supporting role as County Magistrate Wang Jin—Gu Wenchang’s trusted partner. The film is adapted from a long-form reportage piece titled "A County Party Secretary Who Lives Forever in the Hearts of the People: Gu Wenchang," authored by Zhang Quanjing, former president of the China Association for the Study of Party Building and former head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee. It vividly recreates the moving story of Gu Wenchang—who served as the Party Secretary of Dongshan County during the 1950s and 1960s—as he dedicated himself selflessly to the well-being of the public and the cause of the Party and the people. Through its narrative, the film artistically explores fundamental questions for any Communist Party member: Why join the revolution? What should one do when serving as an official? And what legacy should one leave behind?
