00:02A visitor to Paris described the scene as a war zone
00:06the morning after violent protests shook the French capital.
00:10Tijet Debord, who traveled from the Netherlands with his children to see a friend,
00:15said he had to leave his hotel at Place de la République because of the unrest.
00:20It's like a war zone here.
00:23Yesterday we came to Paris to visit a friend,
00:26and our hotel is at Place de la République.
00:30We had to evacuate. Our car is still there and our luggage,
00:34so we're hoping everything is okay,
00:37and we had to stay in a different hotel, so we are okay.
00:41Research scientist Paola Formenti argued that the violence
00:45made up only a small part of the demonstrations,
00:48and that attention should stay on the protesters' demands.
00:51I think the protests are very legitimate.
00:54There is a lot of anger, there is a lot of difficulty in living and studying,
00:58so I believe it's legitimate, and of course in this legitimate protest
01:02sometimes there are violent people that take advantage,
01:05but I think it's very minor, and you should not...
01:08I mean, it has to be condemned, of course, and combated,
01:11but it is normal that people that don't get answers by the government,
01:15that they struggle to live everyday life, they struggle to study,
01:19they struggle to eat and have a proper accommodation, then they get angry.
01:24And so, I think the only way of actually avoiding this kind of violence
01:29is to answer to the protest of the people, to listen to them.
01:33Unrest broke out in cities across France on Saturday,
01:37as protests over the rising cost of living and weakening public services turned chaotic,
01:42marking some of the worst violence the country has seen in decades.
01:47Although hundreds of thousands marched peacefully in dozens of cities,
01:52violent fringe groups attacked public buildings,
01:55looted luxury shops and supermarkets, and targeted police vehicles and officers.
02:12And so, I guess that they are in case rotating in decades,
02:13by one of their subjects there have been different places
02:13in some Eating Updating means despite the fact they are clanging backwards
02:14and worker and earrafting for them.
02:14limits of their own people around the Earth,
02:14and at the same time, there are, in other places they are in In front of Egypt,
