00:00For today's feeding inside of the carnivorous plant garden for one of my venus fly traps,
00:04the black widow spider was an absolute mammoth. But thankfully, this far into the grow season,
00:10I have some of my venus fly traps that are growing extremely large traps and very capable
00:15of handling such large prey. This black widow was so extremely large and heavy that as she
00:20finished cleaning off her legs and actually wandered into the center of the trap, you can
00:25see that her weight started to pull the trap downward. For a split second, it looked like
00:30the spider was going to try to anchor herself and possibly fall down outside of the trap,
00:35but thankfully she decided to do a u-turn inside of the trap, hitting those triggers and blam,
00:41we had success. While this was definitely still a very beautiful capture, I do kind of wish that
00:46the spider was more towards the center of the trap and not having her legs sticking so far out.
00:51You can see for a couple of minutes here when I sped the video up that the spider stood perfectly
00:56still and in doing so, so did the plant, but the moment that she started to wiggle again,
01:01that's right when the trap decided to do that second clamp down and commit to the digestive process.
01:07This is why the continued movements of the prey inside of the closed trap are important.
