Bryan Broaddus and Zach Wolchuk react to the Cowboys' dismal performance in the 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night.
Transcript
00:00Well, the second week in a row, the Cowboys offense could not get anything going,
00:05and whether it was a slip there or just the blitz getting in Dak Prescott's way,
00:10the Cowboys losing to the Green Bay Packers 23-13.
00:14They're 2-4 now on the season.
00:16Packers improving to 4-2.
00:18It is the official Pepsi postgame show.
00:20Football's back.
00:21Tailgating deserves Pepsi and AT&T.
00:23Connecting changes everything.
00:25Zach Wolchuk alongside the Super Bowl winning scout, Brian Broadus,
00:28as that second half didn't get much better.
00:32As they did, the Cowboys did go on a nine-play 46-yard drive
00:35that resulted in a Javante Williams touchdown.
00:38But after that, you had a field goal 20-7.
00:41Another field goal made it 23-7.
00:44The offense was stalling.
00:45They couldn't move the football.
00:47They end up salvaging a late touchdown to Ryan Flanoy to make it 23-13,
00:51but that was essentially all she wrote.
00:54Dak today, 54 pass attempts, one touchdown, two interceptions.
00:59You're going to lose a lot of games doing that.
01:00Could have been more.
01:01Could have been more.
01:02I mean, it is one of those, Brian, where your defense, we know.
01:07We know the defense is going to struggle,
01:08but they came up with some stops in that second half,
01:10and your offense did not show up tonight.
01:13No, and the first half defense wasn't good,
01:19and that's the problem.
01:20Also, it takes you out of some things you probably wanted to do,
01:23like run the football.
01:24You're down 17-0, but you do get – I think the defense –
01:28I think Babe said it at the end –
01:30the defense in the second half was better.
01:33But offensively, though, teams now blitz you.
01:36Teams now twist your front.
01:39Teams now know that this is a very, very predictable offense now.
01:44Very.
01:44It's a slant.
01:46It's – if the slant's not there, the in-break routes.
01:51We've seen like the – we've seen like massive movement of the pocket
01:58and then try and throw the ball and not work.
02:01Max protection stuff, not work.
02:03The last couple weeks, this offense – this team can't afford its offense
02:08to be bad, and the last two weeks, this offense has been really, really,
02:14really bad.
02:14No, and it's unacceptable.
02:16I mean, when you have an offense that is C.D. Lamb and George Pickens,
02:19and you've got Javante Williams, who was one of –
02:22ran for over 1,200 yards last year, tough as hell.
02:25Your offensive line, you've got Tyler Smith back.
02:28There's no excuse there with not having your best offensive lineman.
02:31And I think you've got to have a conversation about does Broderick Jones
02:36give you a better chance than Terrence Steele does moving forward.
02:39Yeah, if you want to start making some movements now, you need to think –
02:42and I'd even look at some stuff, you know, and maybe even receiver with Flannoy.
02:47We'll see what happens with Turpin and all that stuff like that.
02:50Might be time to activate Camden Brown.
02:52Camden Brown, you know, the whole thing with Mingo.
02:54So, you need to get – I think the one positive thing offensively tonight,
02:59I think Spanford is legitimately just keep going forward.
03:02Yeah, I think you found your tight end one.
03:05Yeah.
03:06I think Brevin Spanford, he showed a little bit of wiggle there, mate.
03:09And obviously, as a blocker, he is the best of what is not a great blocking group of tight ends.
03:15But I'm with you 100%.
03:16It's just – it's one where, you know, Shoddy doesn't have an answer right now
03:20as your offensive coordinator.
03:22He doesn't – he really doesn't have an answer, as you said, as soon as a play caller right now.
03:26Yeah.
03:26He's got – there's no – and it's really easy to say creativity and all that.
03:31You and I were sitting there talking during the game.
03:33It seems like they have to fight for every single yard.
03:37Nothing comes easy to this offense now.
03:39And it's been that way.
03:42I mean, there was some things even in the Houston game, you know.
03:46The first half of Houston.
03:46I mean, the second quarter was terrible.
03:48Yeah, absolutely terrible.
03:50So, to me, this is where you kind of look at – you know, Green Bay couldn't run the ball
03:55every third down.
03:56And I know that's defense right now, and that didn't help.
03:59But, man, you know that your defense is going to struggle.
04:03You know how poorly they can play.
04:06And offense has to carry its weight.
04:08And it's – it's struggles at tackle.
04:11It struggles – listen, it's struggling across the whole offensive line right now,
04:15if you want to be honest with the last couple weeks.
04:17Yeah, the silly penalty from Tyler Booker.
04:19Penalties.
04:20You know, they've got a – Williams, who's one of your best blitz pickup guys,
04:23gets called for a holding.
04:25You know, this –
04:26Guyton got called for a holding during the game.
04:28This was a – this was a Green Bay team that, like, that was ready for you to attack it,
04:34and they were the ones that attacked you.
04:37It's amazing, though, Green Bay being so one-dimensional on offense.
04:41Yeah.
04:41And how they seemingly – I mean, just moving up and down the field with ease.
04:45And they dropped three touchdowns in the game.
04:47They absolutely dropped that.
04:48I mean, they were trying to help you out.
04:49They were absolutely trying to help you out there.
04:52And like I said, you did get some – you know, you did see some good things from Porter
04:57as far as the way he could play and all that.
04:59But, man, downs – I don't think downs played very well tonight.
05:03No.
05:03I don't think – you know, we've seen – it was nice.
05:05Barham's missing tackles.
05:07Barham's missing tackles.
05:08Drops an interception.
05:09Yeah.
05:09I mean, this is – you gave up 23 points tonight.
05:14It could have been a hell of a lot more.
05:15You're right.
05:16They dropped three damn touchdowns on you.
05:18You know, and offensively, though, you had some opportunities of driving the football.
05:23The fourth down play – I mean, they run a third down play short.
05:26They run a fourth down play.
05:28They pass the ball twice.
05:29Just get the first down.
05:31You know, I mean, this guy as a play caller right now, at least the last two weeks, he
05:36has not helped you at all.
05:38And maybe, maybe he's really limited.
05:42The quarterback hasn't been very good.
05:44You know, he got fooled tonight.
05:45This is the second week in a row.
05:47And they are the ones that always like to tell us how excited they are about the blitz.
05:52Tackles say it.
05:53They're like, oh, yeah, blitzes.
05:54We love – we welcome him.
05:55And I've heard Shottie say, hey, we welcome the blitz.
05:57We got – you know, right now, Dak Prescott not seeing the blitz well.
06:02Offensive line – and I even talked about, you know, this was a Clayton Adams game.
06:07You know, and Clayton Adams – and it just – it's crazy.
06:11It's just crazy the last couple of weeks how poor this offense has played.
06:16And it's been – it's very predictable in what they're going to do.
06:19There's – I don't want to say the word creativity, but you would figure that they would be better with
06:24these receivers.
06:26And honestly, the last two weeks, they haven't.
06:29Teams have figured you out a little bit on what they're – on what you're doing or what you're trying
06:33to do.
06:34And it's a copycat league.
06:36I mean, Philadelphia and Vic Fangio over there, they're going to probably look at this and say, okay, we see
06:42how teams are attacking you right now.
06:44Well, let's go ahead and dial it up.
06:45I mean, if there's one thing Philadelphia has with all the injuries they've got, their defense is still pretty darn
06:50good.
06:51So they've got to find an answer.
06:52I mean, you're in the year 11 for Dak Prescott.
06:55Yeah.
06:56You know, I don't think – the play with Evan Williams, the safety, you know, where he's creeping near the
07:02line of scrimmage,
07:03then he ends up going back to the middle of the field and he gets the interception.
07:06That was a good design by Jonathan Gannon.
07:07Yeah.
07:08But all in all, I mean, you know they're sending a blitz and they are sending more people than you
07:14have to block.
07:15Ball's got to be out.
07:16And some of that also can be, okay, on your play caller for Brian Schottenheimer, do we have a hot?
07:22Do we have something here to maybe try and make this a little bit easier?
07:25They can't run a screen to save their life.
07:27No.
07:27So there's no way to slow down the blitz in that capacity.
07:30Those were terrible.
07:31You had drop passes left and right.
07:33You're slipping on your ass.
07:34It was embarrassing.
07:36And I don't know that there's a single game this year that I could really look at and say,
07:41yeah, the Cowboys coaching staff was better than the opposition.
07:45And I think they've got a big-time coaching problem right now, but they also have issues on the football
07:50field.
07:51And yet again, they're blitzing.
07:53And kudos to Christian Parker and maybe Mike Pettin had something to do with this.
07:57I had asked for it on our show on the G-Bag Nation.
07:59Just blitz.
08:00He came after him.
08:01They did.
08:01They were aggressive.
08:03Yeah, they were.
08:03And Joey Porter Jr., you've got to sign that guy now.
08:07He's, without question, your best player on defense.
08:10I thought Quinton Williams had a hell of a football game for the most part today.
08:13Kenny Clark had a splash play.
08:15Rashawn Gary, again, is Mr. Almost.
08:17He gets a little bit of pressure.
08:18Can't ever bring anybody down to the ground.
08:21Malachi Lawrence, how about him down in coverage?
08:23That was crazy to see Malachi Lawrence down there in the end zone tipping a ball that ended up being
08:29a drop by Christian Watson.
08:31It's just, there's so many things where it is, you're beat, it feels like, before you even start the game.
08:38You take the ball on offense.
08:39You've got to go down the field and score.
08:42You can't get one first down and then you have to punt.
08:44And then Dee Winters comes up with an interception for you.
08:47You think maybe it's a pick six.
08:49Nope, you don't get the benefit of that.
08:50He's ruled down.
08:51And then what do you do when your defense finally gets you a turnover?
08:55You give it right back to them.
08:58It's just, wow.
08:59You know, you can't play any complimentary defense.
09:03You are one-dimensional on offense because you fall so far behind.
09:06Now the coach is like, oh, I can't run the football.
09:09It's frustrating.
09:10And I know a lot of you are frustrated and we want to hear from you.
