00:00Hundreds of protesters gathered again on Sunday at the Place de la République in Paris
00:05amid a heavy police presence a day after major demonstrations rocked the city.
00:11I'm here on the Place de la République the day after the 17th.
00:16Tension is still very high with the riot police being confronted by groups of youth
00:22who have been demonstrating on the square and have just been angered at the arrest of a young boy,
00:34apparently a minor, who was just taken away.
00:37So things are still very tense here on Place de la République, I must believe.
00:43French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking late on Sunday,
00:47again renewed vows to hold all those who rioted, looted and engaged in criminal activity to account,
00:54accusing them of seeking to bring down the Republic.
00:57But some of those who came out on Sunday had one objective,
01:00to prevent the tragic riots that took place a day prior from repeating.
01:05I'm here for the union and for that all things that don't go in France are all together, without violence.
01:13Meanwhile, business owners traveled to survey the damage their establishments have sustained
01:18after rioters hijacked the peaceful demonstrations and unleashed mayhem in the streets.
01:24Many were at a loss for words.
01:27Most of the owners of the businesses that were destroyed,
01:31like this restaurant behind me that I've met today,
01:35refused to talk in front of the camera.
01:38They are definitely in shock and such scenes of destruction are sadly what are likely to be remembered
01:48most of this, the 17th of October demonstration.
01:54And the grievances, the demand of the thousands of people who did demonstrate peacefully
02:02are also sadly to be overwhelmed by the climate of violence.
02:10What is sure is that what has happened yesterday and is feared to be happening again very soon
02:19will certainly have an impact on the outcome of the upcoming national election in France.
02:27I'm Valerie Gorria in Paris for Euronews.
