00:00Solihull Council is dealing with the fallout from an undercover ITV investigation which exposed
00:07racist and misogynistic remarks made by three councillors elected for Reform UK. Alan Feeney,
00:14Jamie Campbell and Chris Whelan have resigned after clips from ITV's undercover A Year in Reform
00:21were released. Council leader Karen Grinsall says she was appalled by the language used and believes
00:27many residents will have been disgusted by what they heard. She says the remarks do not represent
00:33Solihull or the values of the council. Grinsall has also revealed that the council's monitoring
00:39officer received formal complaints about the conduct of the three men. She says those complaints would
00:45have been investigated had any of them remained as councillors. Their resignations mean the authority
00:51must now deal with the vacancies they have left. An extraordinary meeting of Solihull Council
00:57scheduled for the 19th of October is still set to go ahead despite all three men stepping down.
01:04Councillors are expected to replace roles held by them including the position of Deputy Mayor which
01:11had been held by Feeney. The council says a by-election will be held at the earliest opportunity
01:17to fill the three vacant councillor positions in Castle Bromwich. Reform UK has said there's no room
01:23for racism in the party and the comments do not reflect its values.
