00:00Game that Mike Vrabel said yesterday they were lucky to win.
00:04And we are here to talk about it, not only with you,
00:07but with Mike Vrabel in about a half an hour.
00:10And so division game, you get the win.
00:13I guess we, I'm assuming many of us have questions
00:17about what is going on with A.J. Brown and catching the football.
00:21My issue with A.J. Brown is more the 52 snaps.
00:25Like why so many?
00:26Yeah.
00:27Well, didn't we talk about that with Brian Hoyer,
00:29where it's like you hope that when they bring him back,
00:31they're not forcing him over and over again.
00:33And it seemed like they maybe were.
00:36Yeah.
00:37And...
00:38What do you have, 10 targets?
00:3910 targets.
00:40Three catches.
00:41Yeah.
00:41I mean, he had a couple drops.
00:43Three drops.
00:43I'm not worried about it.
00:44I mean, to me, it's just, I think it's more rust than anything.
00:48He hasn't played in a game in a long time.
00:51I'm not worried.
00:51A.J. Brown has caught in a lot of footballs throughout his career.
00:54I'm not worried about that.
00:55I would agree, Curtis.
00:56It's like, yeah, you don't have to play 52 snaps.
00:59That's kind of a lot.
01:00I might have limited him to about, you know, 28, 30 snaps.
01:05Yeah.
01:06But as far as the drops, I don't have any concern whatsoever about that.
01:12It's more about getting him back into the groove,
01:14getting him back into the mix.
01:15He looked like he was moving around,
01:18but he didn't look as explosive as we've seen him in the past,
01:22and that's going to just take some time.
01:24Yeah.
01:24I mean, I guess my only concern coming out of it is the injury thing,
01:28which continues to be a problem for the football team.
01:32Certainly, it's an issue when it comes to the offensive line,
01:37but yet, I mean, they're missing three starters yesterday,
01:41and Drake was not sacked once.
01:44So, I mean, they seem to find a way to put guys together
01:48and to make that work, and so I guess I shouldn't worry about injuries.
01:52Give Doug Marone a ton, a ton, a ton of credit,
01:56because the O-line, we don't even bring up their name at all.
02:02Like, anybody on that offensive line.
02:04I mean, guys were going down like crazy, and it was like,
02:06who's this guy prior to came in the game,
02:08and then some other guy came in the game.
02:10I don't even know what his name was, and it was just like, you know.
02:14You heard the broadcast say, this is their last healthy lineman.
02:18Yeah.
02:18I know.
02:19I know.
02:20It's terrifying, but they seem to get it done.
02:23It doesn't matter.
02:24Isn't it crazy, too, that in the beginning of the season,
02:26before the season, we had that long week of just talking about Mike Rabel,
02:29talking about the depth of this team and how he was worried about it,
02:32and it just seems like that is not an issue at all.
02:35I thought of you watching that game and your question to Mike about that
02:39because Rabel stood at the end of the preseason
02:44and lamented the lack of depth as a reason for not playing more starters
02:48in the preseason, and the strength of this team has been its depth.
02:53I watch that offensive line.
02:55I watch on defense where you have no Harold Landry,
02:58yet your pass rush may be better at this point this year than it was last year.
03:02Yeah, and you see guys like Ponder.
03:05Oh, my God.
03:06Another great game for him, and a key sack when you needed it yesterday.
03:11He's awesome.
03:12Yeah, he's done a great job, especially with last year,
03:15him being a rookie undrafted free agent.
03:18He's taken advantage of his opportunity.
03:20Big game by Pop Douglas.
03:21Had a bunch of huge catches, and I think Drake May has done it.
03:24Except for losing the football.
03:25Yeah, but that one you've got to know.
03:27It's like when a quarterback's in the pocket, and you're like,
03:30all right, there's got to be a mental clock when a quarterback's in the pocket
03:32like it's starting to close around me, and guys might be coming from behind me.
03:36It's the same way as a wide receiver.
03:38When you catch a football and you make a guy miss,
03:40and you're running and you're kind of juking around,
03:42you've got to have that clock like somebody's going to be coming from behind me
03:46punching it out.
03:47And I think we'll get to Pop talked about that
03:50and what he needs to do better when it comes to losing the football.
03:52So we'll get to what Pop Douglas said about that during they said it
03:57at 7.15 this morning.
03:59But a win is a win, and Mike Vrabel will be here to talk about it
04:03in about 20 minutes or so at 6.30.
04:06He said postgame that he felt like this team did not improve week to week.
04:13I don't know how you're not looking past the Jets.
04:15I was in Chicago last week.
04:17I am so beyond that game.
04:20I was talking to Ken about it Saturday morning.
04:23The Patriots were going to beat the Jets.
04:25They just had to show up.
04:26If Drake played a clean game, which he did more than,
04:29you were going to win the game.
04:30And that's what he provided.
04:32The offense did its job.
04:33The defense had a couple brain farts, but by and large was really good.
04:37And I watch.
04:40It's hard when you're playing at 1 o'clock, and Wiggy can speak to this,
04:43when you're playing 1 o'clock on Sunday against a vastly inferior opponent,
04:47and you know Thursday night the world's watching you against the Bears in Chicago,
04:53it's impossible not to have your mind somewhat be looking ahead.
04:57Yeah, I mean, that's going to be a game.
04:58I mean, Caleb Williams is back and looked really, really good yesterday,
05:02so that's going to be a game.
05:04I do feel like if you had a reasonable coach as a head coach of the New York Jets,
05:10then things might have been a little bit different yesterday.
05:12Like a guy who, you know, you're down four, and you don't kick the field goal.
05:18You decide to go for it on fourth down.
05:20Like, I feel like it could have been closer if they had a reasonable coach on that football team.
05:26And they make mistakes, and you're trying to put it together with Geno Smith.
05:30And, you know, Geno's doing his best.
05:32But, you know, he's a guy that you're not.
05:35Geno's not the type of quarterback that you're going to go,
05:37all right, this guy's going to carry our football team.
05:39And I think there was not a point in time when I was watching that game where I go, like,
05:45oh, I'm worried that the Pats are going to lose this game.
05:47Not once.
05:48Not once.
05:49Me neither.
05:49But that's an issue if they were looking past it.
05:51And I understand it's hard to do.
05:53Wiggy can speak on that far more than any of us.
05:54But if you were Mike Rabel, I think that's why maybe he seemed a bit pissed,
05:59a bit peeved after the game yesterday.
06:01Because it's like, if they lost that, and we were all waking up this morning,
06:06the main conversation would be they looked past a Jets team that they thought
06:10they were superior to, and they fumbled.
06:13Well, I mean, I think when you kind of look at it, the first, I don't know,
06:1720-something minutes of the game, the Jets had possession for, like, 15, 16.
06:2319.
06:23Yeah, it was something crazy.
06:24You had, like, a four-minute possession.
06:26You have to really suck if you possess the ball for 13 and a half minutes
06:30of the 15-minute first quarter, and you go to the second quarter,
06:33and you're losing.
06:34Yeah.
06:35Because you give up one play.
06:36Right.
06:36How about Aaron Glenn doing his halftime interview and not knowing that
06:40they're getting the ball to start the second half?
06:43I couldn't believe that.
06:45I was like, oh, am I mistaken?
06:47I thought that the Jets started with the ball.
06:49I'm like, maybe I'm wrong.
06:51And then I went back, and I was like, nope, I'm not wrong.
06:53We've been all over Dan Quinn and others when it comes to situational awareness,
06:58and Aaron Glenn doesn't know that they're getting the football back.
07:02It's kind of an important detail.
07:03It is.
07:04It is.
07:04You would think so.
07:06But listen, it's a win.
07:08It's a division win for the New England Patriots.
07:10You can talk about it all morning long on this show.
07:13We'll talk to Mike Vrabel about it in 15 minutes or so.
07:17We'll get to they said it coming up at 7.15.
07:20That includes what A.J. Brown said he will do to move on from the drops yesterday.
07:28Maybe no more A.J. Brown on the hands team.
07:30That was dicey at the end.
07:31Yeah, that was.
07:33We will also hear what word Milton Williams used to describe Mike Vrabel,
07:38and we can ask Mike Vrabel about that as well coming up when we get to they said it at
07:447.15.
07:45Boomer Esiason will join us at 8, and we'll talk about this Patriots game
07:50and everything else that is going on around the league,
07:55and I certainly want to talk to him about the Chargers, the 0-6 Chargers,
08:01and what is going on out there.
08:03And, I mean, I think going into that,
08:06didn't you think that adding Mike McDaniel,
08:09he's a weirdo, but everybody tells me he's a brilliant offensive mind.
08:15Didn't you think that adding him to Justin Herbert would finally be what he needed
08:21and what that team needed?
08:22Yeah, maybe the mistake was also adding Adam Gase,
08:26which we realized a couple weeks ago to that coaching staff.
08:28I watched that game, and I'm rooting my ass off against the Chiefs
08:32just because I don't know how else to watch them.
08:35And it was – the Jets had a far easier play against the Patriots
08:41than the Chargers did against the Chiefs.
08:42I'm watching that, and the Chiefs are making mistakes.
08:44Mahomes makes an atrocious red zone interception,
08:48one of the worst passes you'll ever see,
08:49one of the greatest players of all time make.
08:51And it's like three and out.
08:53They have no – their offense is just awful.
08:56Justin Herbert's running around like –
08:58And I get – listen, it's a new system.
09:00So, I don't know, Wiggy, how long should it take Justin Herbert
09:04to figure a new system out?
09:06Like, should it take six weeks?
09:09No, no, no, no.
09:09I think that – like, for me, I think the biggest thing is just –
09:13and I'm not in that coach's room,
09:16but I think the biggest issue could be what is Habba's –
09:21like, what kind of leash is he giving McDaniel
09:25when it comes to coaching Justin Herbert?
09:29Like, because I don't think they work well together,
09:32which then I think –
09:33Herbert and McDaniel or Harbaugh and McDaniel?
09:35Harbaugh and McDaniel.
09:36Oh, yeah.
09:36And then I think that trickles down to Herbert and McDaniel
09:40because maybe McDaniel might look and go,
09:42okay, I can't really put this in because, you know,
09:46Jim doesn't – Jim or whatever which one he is
09:49doesn't think I could do this as a play caller.
09:51And I think that becomes the issue.
09:53And so, at times when you start to look and go,
09:56where is there a divide there?
09:59Sometimes if the head coach – and we talked about this here –
10:03like, if the head coach and the offensive coordinator
10:05might not be on the same page,
10:08it trickles down to the OC and the quarterback's relationship.
10:11See you next week.
10:11If you're not going to hear my
