00:00Inflation in the eurozone has more than doubled during 2026, while the European Central Bank
00:06has already raised interest rates twice. As the year draws to a close, the prospect of
00:13a further rate rise remains open, threatening to put more pressure on European households.
00:22Financial experts from across Europe gathered in Athens for the International Treasury Summit
00:27warned that the uncertainty will continue and are urging businesses and households to take
00:33steps to protect themselves against possible new economic pressures.
00:38From a business point of view, making sure that you have hedging policies to avoid the
00:47floating rates to go up. So putting place hedging strategies to help you mitigate that risk.
00:56And from a consumer point of view, unfortunately we are always going to see the prices going up
01:04for the petrol or diesel, we're going to see prices going up in a shop. So we're just going to
01:11have to
01:13be very very careful of our spending, because things are going to go up and up, unfortunately.
01:36I think it's Dan's probably monitoring things for a little bit. Be a little bit cautious right now,
01:41because we don't know, you know, the geopolitics if they're going to change, if wars are going to,
01:45more wars are going to start, or less.
01:48So I think monitor for a little while. But at the end of the day, if this is the new
01:52normal,
01:53then I think you've got to take the chance if it comes along, because otherwise you'll just be in a
01:56state of limbo.
01:57All eyes are now turning to the European Central Bank. Analysts do not rule out a further rate rise before
02:05the end of the year.
