00:00You know, my comment is we're not a serious football team.
00:02And there's a lot of teams in the NFL that aren't serious football teams right now.
00:05Like, you know, we're a 2-4 team that had a couple of absolutely spectacular days on national TV.
00:11Right.
00:11That was a lot of fun.
00:12You rewarded your fans.
00:13You made us feel good.
00:15You had people saying the Falcons may be the best team in the NFC.
00:18You had national commentators saying this is a juggernaut offense.
00:21Yep.
00:21It felt like it might be real.
00:23But it's not real.
00:24It's not.
00:25There's nothing real about it.
00:26Drew says it all the time.
00:28Stack wins.
00:29So you had two wins.
00:30You come home for a backup quarterback in the Ravens.
00:32And you come home to a winnable game against the Bears.
00:35And you absolutely blank the bed.
00:37One, you blew an eight-point lead with a minute left.
00:39This one, you just got blown out of the building.
00:41So, no, you're not a real team.
00:42Like, my favorite show maybe of all time, Succession.
00:46You a Succession fan?
00:47Yes.
00:47What does the lead guy say?
00:50What does Dad say?
00:51I love my children very much, but they're not serious people.
00:54I love the Falcons very much, but they're not a serious team.
00:57Why would I think they're a serious team?
00:59You're 2-4.
01:00You're 0-3 at home.
01:01You know, you got a quarterback that is just tentative right now.
01:04You had a defense with a lot of no-name, one-year guys.
01:07They play their ass off.
01:08They're playing hard.
01:09You got a few guys on offense that can do things.
01:11But why would we think we're a serious football team?
01:14We're just not.
01:15We don't do the things, you know.
01:16You had a chance to be 4-2 or, worse, 3-3.
01:21Absolutely.
01:22And show your fan base.
01:23Without question.
01:24And you blew it.
01:25Yeah, you blew it.
01:26And, you know, when I played for Bruce Arians, he always used to say,
01:28it takes a little bit of time to get up into the penthouse.
01:32But to go back down to the outhouse, it happens overnight.
01:36Right?
01:36Falcons were feeling so good after those two primetime victories.
01:39You had the eight-point lead on Sunday Night Football against the Ravens last week.
01:43You blow that game in overtime.
01:45You turn around.
01:46You lose another one.
01:47You go from the penthouse to the outhouse.
01:49And now everybody's sitting here saying, where do we go from here?
01:53You got the 49ers coming in town next week.
01:55They are, most people say, the best team in the NFL.
02:00It's a tough stretch here this next couple of weeks for the Atlanta Falcons.
02:04The Chiefs are in there.
02:05You got to go over to Madrid and play the Bengals.
02:07I mean, I don't know, State.
02:10I don't know.
02:11But what I do know is this.
02:12If they're not a serious football team, which surely you have a point when saying that,
02:17the moves that they made in the offseason show that at least they're getting serious
02:22about how they want to move into the future.
02:25Michael Penix Jr. might not be a part of that future.
02:28Yeah.
02:28Drake is.
02:29Kyle is.
02:30Bijan is.
02:31One-year players are not.
02:34Having money to spend.
02:35And let the chips fall where they may.
02:38And they'll figure out Penix after.
02:39I love Michael Penix as a kid to root for.
02:44I absolutely love him.
02:45I mean, you don't hear one bad word about him.
02:48He desperately wants to win.
02:49But he is a kid that is tentative in the pocket.
02:53And not athletic.
02:54And he can't get you extra yards.
02:56And that concerns me a lot as well.
02:58Lots more on this.
02:59404-726-0929.
03:01It was a busy weekend.
03:03We would be remiss if we were not chatting on all the things that happened.
03:07One of the most incredible Saturdays in college football history.
03:13What time is this?
03:15Time for the 9 at 9.
03:16It's 9 things you need to know.
03:199 live on the Steakhouse.
03:21Brought to you by Barty.
03:22AC heating, plumbing, and electrical.
03:24Barty does it all.
03:25Scheduling your repairs or service is effortless at Barty.com.
03:29Sports Radio 92.9.
03:31The game.
03:32You know, it was a couple of days ago.
03:34But we are on the radio and haven't chatted on it.
03:38Saturday was an incredible day of college football.
03:41What are the stats on it, Mr. Drew?
03:43This past Saturday was the first time ever that five teams ranked in the top seven lost in the same
03:50week.
03:50It was the first time the number one ranked team lost to an unranked team in consecutive weeks since 1990.
03:57And here more locally, the first time Texas, Alabama, and Georgia all lost on the same Saturday since 1996.
04:06Dogs lose 27-24 as the number one ranked team in the country.
04:11Unranked Auburn walks into Sanford Stadium and gets a massive, massive victory.
04:17So Georgia now ranked number five in the AP poll.
04:21Georgia Tech.
04:22Wow.
04:23Not a good one.
04:24They lose to Virginia Tech 34-24.
04:26Tech was down 24-3 at half state.
04:28Yeah, I thought for Kirby, you know, it's not, it's really not the worst thing in the world.
04:33It tells, it reminds his team, you ain't all that.
04:37We've been out last few years, first round of the playoffs.
04:40Here he was after the game.
04:42Yeah, tough one.
04:43We like to say the Dawgs don't beat the Dawgs, but they found a way to beat themselves today.
04:48I'll open by giving a lot of credit to Auburn.
04:51Their physicality showed.
04:52I thought they were physical at the line of scrimmage.
04:55Their quarterback is really hard to tackle.
04:58We knew that coming in.
04:59He did a tremendous job with yards after contact, getting out of sacks, keeping them in good,
05:04normal down distances.
05:06But we helped them.
05:07You know, we gave them three turnovers and some really critical, undisciplined penalties.
05:13Yeah, I mean, you know, when you let teams hang around, you let them come back from down
05:1714, and even though everything in the fourth quarter went according to plan, got the ball.
05:21How about that 96-yard drive that Gunnar Stockton led?
05:24I mean, that right there was a Heisman-type moment, and then they get the stop, they get
05:30the ball back, and the fumble happens.
05:32I know.
05:33That's why you hang around long enough if you're Auburn.
05:36Obviously, Georgia Tech, my only comment there is, you know, you're down 24-3.
05:41I mean, Virginia Tech's better under James Franklin.
05:44That program shouldn't be that much better than you on a Saturday.
05:47Over the weekend, Atlanta Dream lose their game one.
05:50Yes, they are down 1-0 to the Valkyries, so game two, I believe, is tonight for the Atlanta
05:56Dream.
05:56Yeah, the home game will be Wednesday night here in Atlanta, and then Saturday, there'll
06:00be a, is it Saturday?
06:03Yeah, doubleheader.
06:05Rockets and Hawks will play at night.
06:07Dream will play in the daytime.
06:09That is coming up on a Saturday.
06:11Also, Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians last night.
06:15They are now up 3-2 in the ALCS, waiting to see which team wins the pennant to go take
06:21on the Brewers.
06:23The Brewers will be the biggest favorite in that one.
06:26Listen, I don't know what the numbers are going to be on Tampa and Milwaukee.
06:29Those have been the two best teams in baseball the entire year.
06:32You will not know a lot of the players in either one of those teams, but somebody's going to
06:37win their first championship.
06:38That's part of the mix as well.
06:41And NBA gets going tomorrow.
06:43Full set of games, including the bronze debut.
06:47Tip-off Tuesday, they're calling it.
06:48Yeah.
06:50Afternoon games, too, on top of everything else.
06:52Wow.
06:53You know that?
06:53No.
06:53Celtics and Pistons play at like 2.30.
06:55Celtics and Pistons, 3 o'clock.
06:57Yeah.
06:58On a weekday.
06:58Wow.
06:59Yeah.
06:59Kind of funky.
07:00And that is essentially our nine at nine.
07:05404-726-0929.
07:08Falcon fans, the frustration.
07:10Where is the most blatant area where you just are shaking your head?
07:18You know, I keep using this comments.
07:19We're not a serious football team.
07:20You know, I want to be that.
07:23And what was so exciting about the blowout wins against New Orleans on the Katrina anniversary
07:28and the win over Green Bay was that it's like, I think we're kind of a real football team.
07:32Like, we got Jeff Ulbrich and we got all these pieces on offense that are dynamic.
07:38Bijan's dynamic.
07:39Drake's dynamic.
07:41Brian Robinson is a great one.
07:43And then you look up and you go, no, we're just two and four.
07:46Right.
07:46Winless at home.
07:47Um, you know, my John Robinson, no touchdowns the last two weeks, nine carries yesterday.
07:52That's the best player in the National Football League.
07:54Two catches for negative eight yards.
07:56Remember when they said Green Bay is the worst team in the NFL when we beat them?
08:00People were like, they have no talent.
08:02They're the worst team in the NFL.
08:03Green Bay beat the Bears by three touchdowns.
08:06And they, when I tell you took the Cowboys out to the woodshed, that's, that's why the
08:11NFL is just, and the difference, they are a real football team.
08:15Yeah.
08:15I think they're four and two, right?
08:16Yes, that's correct.
08:17Yeah.
08:18Remember they're the worst team in the league because we beat them.
08:20So what did they do?
08:21They regrouped.
08:21They went out and they took care of business.
08:24Bears did the same thing.
08:25They lose badly and they come back in here and they take care of business.
08:29Course correct.
08:30Yeah.
08:30And New England, Chicago, Thursday night.
08:33Wow.
08:33That'll be a fantastic game because the Pats are playing some really good ball right now.
