00:00I think he's a good manager. You know, he communicates well. I would have given a one-year
00:04shot with, who knows, maybe Bochy and Dusty, they're over 70, they may not have come back.
00:09And maybe Showalter wouldn't come back. And maybe Joe Maddon wouldn't come back. I mean,
00:13there are older guys that I would have looked at for one year. And I think maybe one of them
00:17would have taken the shot at it. But I get it. It's the safe play. He's gotten them in there
00:22eight out of nine years, and I really can't kill them for it. So the eight out of nine years
00:26is
00:26the one that's interesting for me, John, because I think the people who run that, run every team,
00:31but the Yankees included, feel like their job is to get in. I do think when you've mainly made the
00:37playoffs every year for 35 years, including eight of the nine for Boone, you do have to think about
00:42what kind of people you put on the roster. If you really, are those the guys you want taking at
00:47bats, fielding the ball, making big decisions in the postseason? I think that's a place where
00:53the Yankees have failed, which means where Brian Cashman has failed and his group by not having
00:58a greater appreciation of that. And I also think it's a place where Aaron Boone has failed by not
01:03getting the full attention of some of these players, if that is actually possible. I think
01:07they need to put, for better terms, a bad cop, an enforcer, somebody next to him in the bench coach
01:13role who is more somebody who cares about the brand and cares about good baseball and is willing to do
01:21what Boone hasn't been willing to do, which is call out publicly to some degree, guys who are not
01:27playing the right way, who are not valuing the scoreboard, who are doing their thing over what's
01:32good for the group.
