00:18Public housing tenants now subject to a three strikes and you're out rule
00:23following regular complaints from residents in suburbs like Karama and Malac.
00:28What we do want to make sure is that every tenant in public housing does three simple things.
00:33Looks after their home, pays their rent and is being a good neighbour.
00:38Under the new system minor anti-social behaviour breaches will attract one strike,
00:43moderate breaches two and significant breaches three strikes and eviction.
00:49People may be threatened, the property may be damaged.
00:52Ongoing, repeated anti-social behaviour could lead to three strikes and immediate action
00:59taken towards removing that tenant from their home.
01:02The three strikes rule replaces a red card system in which tenants could be kicked out
01:08after receiving six demerit points.
01:10Under the new policy, one demerit point will carry over as one strike.
