00:02The Mondial de l'Auto in Paris this year welcomed over 60 brands, over 400 cars, and half a million
00:09car lovers, including many industry leaders.
00:13My absolute favorite is the headlight, where you see the hundreds of stars. That's the little detail that really makes
00:19the car luxury. That's a really great feature.
00:23You see, from the design, it's my favorite color, matching for my suit.
00:30I trust it is, 100%.
00:34I really love this headlight unit. It spans the whole width of the front and incorporates all lighting functions, so
00:40that's my piece of love in that car.
00:48This is one of Europe's biggest car shows, and this year in Paris, one of the highlights has to be
00:53the presence of so many Chinese car brands,
00:56bringing their unique style and innovation to European roads.
01:00So we're here to meet them and find out more.
01:08One of the key trends from Chinese manufacturers is their expansion into new segments of the market.
01:14It's the case for BYD, the world's biggest electric car company, who chose Paris this year for the European launch
01:21of their premium brand, Denza.
01:22It means a lot, because Paris is the capital of fashion, capital of the brand building for luxury brands.
01:31Then in Denza, it's important we're launching the Denza brand successfully here,
01:36and blending the technology, luxury, into the art, culture, history.
01:44Another Chinese car maker aiming for upmarket buyers is Zika, designed in Sweden and part of the Geely Group.
01:51Some of their vehicles can charge their batteries from 10% to 80% in 10 and a half minutes,
01:57a technology they hope will attract customers.
02:00First of all, I have to say the consumer in Europe, they have changed over the last years.
02:06So almost everyone wants a car with advanced tech, so technology is getting very important.
02:11Second big point is, I think it's around 60% of the consumers want electrification.
02:18That has changed a lot, and a big part of the consumers are looking really for craftsmanship, quality, premiumness.
02:25So we are entering with Zika now exactly to fulfil these customer requirements.
02:30This biennial show comes amid trade tensions between Europe and China,
02:35a new deal to limit the number of hybrid cars exported from China to the EU,
02:40and Chinese firms now making cars in European factories to sidestep tariffs.
02:45Not that trade policy is top of mind for the crowds in Paris.
02:49Often, they're here to find their next car.
02:52There are a lot of visitors who will undoubtedly discover their next car here.
02:56That's not anything.
02:57So that's the first thing.
03:13For many visitors here in Paris, this is their first chance to see these Chinese cars in the metal,
03:18to admire the bodywork, and to sit in the driver's seat.
03:21And that is an important moment for any brand.
03:25That's particularly true for newcomers like Aito,
03:28which will only begin selling vehicles in Europe from autumn next year.
03:32This five-year-old brand wants Europeans to embrace its vision of what a high-end car can be,
03:37and that includes autonomous driving.
03:40Our philosophy is intelligence redefining luxury.
03:45So we can consider that this car is the traditional luxury and the intelligence luxury.
03:51For example, from my home to office, almost 20 kilometers,
03:57I just put my hand on the well, just it,
04:01and bring me from home to the office.
04:06Establishing a place in the European market is a challenge for any carmaker.
04:11Chang'an is doing so by hiring local talent to work on its products and marketing,
04:15with its design center in Turin, Italy,
04:18and its sales and R&D base in Munich, Germany.
04:22We differentiate by design and by value for money and by quality.
04:28The offer is so large and there are so many opportunities out there.
04:32So to get customers to your brand, you need to have it all
04:37and in a very handsome, elegant shape.
04:41And that's what we also try to deliver and bring to the table.
04:48Well, that's all we have time for from the Mondial de l'Auto here in Paris.
