00:07My voice is very powerful to making sure people get the right support and families to make
00:17sure everybody gets their voice heard.
00:22Anthony is somebody who has been a real innovator throughout his career and it's a really long
00:28career. He was one of the founding members of Cornwall People First which is a self-advocacy
00:34organisation and has gone on to found Sisters and Checkers which is all about providing peer
00:40advocacy to people who are having some sort of mental health crisis. It might be somebody who's
00:49an inpatient within one of the wards in Cornwall or out of Cornwall. Anthony was part of the
00:56Transforming Care programme which started ten years ago which focused on the people with
01:03learning disability and autism that were in inpatient wards particularly those out of county.
01:09I just think that Anthony has been really instrumental in creating opportunities for people with learning
01:15disabilities to speak up. He's kind of campaigned tirelessly all his life and he's done that against
01:22having quite you know he was in care from when he was one years old and so he's constantly been
01:29in
01:29these systems and his way has been to try and create these systems into better systems for people with
01:35learning disabilities and he's done that throughout his whole life.
01:39I think probably as an organisation we've lost track of the numbers of people that Anthony has supported.
01:46his reach is kind of far and widening just in terms of his influence and the way that he talks
01:53about the system
01:54needing to change and listen to people and making sure that people are kind of at the centre of everything
02:01that's going on in terms of their care and support. He's a real trailblazer.
02:06Yeah I just think he's a brilliant person and I think it's amazing that he would be nominated for this
02:11award
02:12as when it was announced last year he was giving it a standing ovation and really appreciating that we could
02:20you know value people for the change that they bring.
02:24And he is that powerful voice for those that have no voice which is exactly why I've nominated him.
02:30help if they want to help or want to get married or want to tough them down or they want
02:38to have the right work with their families.
02:41That's what it's all about. You know this is one of my best jobs ever ever.
