00:00all right so i want to kind of transition into playing at auburn uh you've been a part of i
00:06guess two national championship teams now is that correct yeah so you've been a part of like one of
00:11the you know one of the dominant programs uh at least uh in this last five or six or so
00:17years
00:18and you've been also intertwined with so many great players who've been at auburn and so when
00:24you're walking into the facilities and you you know you don't know what you don't know right
00:28like you know you're good at golf but you don't know exactly you know who you're up against the
00:32talent level of these players can you talk about just that first year and some of the players like
00:37jm butler brendan valdez you know carson baka like these types of guys who've you know been established
00:44and and have lofty goals of making to the pga tour how much does that help you as far as
00:49just your
00:49transition and learning you know maybe your your golf and perk was bomb and gouge and start to figure
00:55out all right there's a lot more to strategy and how to improve in your game yeah absolutely i think
01:01like you said uh just one of the first things you said that just being around the guys who
01:06obviously have been successful but i think the biggest thing for me was like walking in and they
01:11planned on being successful if that makes sense yeah yeah yeah that makes sense like you walk into
01:15the facility every day and you're like like carson jm brendan jackson all these guys like alex
01:20focuson like they're there to go play the pga tour yeah it wasn't another like oh like if i you
01:27know
01:27play good and the right things happen i'll like i was like no i'm gonna go play pro golf and
01:32what do i
01:33need to do to get there and i think like you said like in high school like i was very
01:37much like okay
01:37like if this works out that's great like if i get hot at the right time that's awesome and then
01:43you kind of get thrown into the ring of just like no it's gonna happen it's just a matter of
01:48when
01:49kind of stuff it's just you are who you're around and you kind of develop the same habits as those
01:55people and the same beliefs as well i think that's what makes winning teams who are able to win more
02:03than once i should say so alike in any sport is just that they all have one mindset right all
02:10very
02:10like-minded um and i would speak to guys like jm butler and alex vogelson especially my freshman year
02:18two of the best leaders i've ever been around they made incredible impact and then obviously i was very
02:24close and i'm very close with brendan valdez me and jm are actually going to be in his wedding in
02:28november that's awesome it's so good to see he's doing better too dude it's awesome so good i actually
02:33lived with him from i guess the day he got diagnosed to the day he was cancer-free wow i
02:41was
02:41with the whole time so in this house right here actually so wow it was an amazing process and he's
02:47one of
02:47the just the most positive dudes how much perspective does that give you just i had to see
02:53one of your your teammates good friends you know watch him go through these struggles i'm sure that
02:58you had a lens that nobody else has seen of of of how hard it really was and how and
03:03what that does
03:04for you as a person uh knowing that golf isn't like the most important thing in life no absolutely i
03:11think i haven't told this story very i guess publicly very much but i'm sure he won't mind
03:16but he was diagnosed january 1st i think he called me january 2nd or 3rd i was on my way
03:21to australia to
03:22play the master of the amateurs i was in the airport and he just gave me a call i was
03:27like hey dude how
03:27are you doing he's like i thought he was giving me a call about something about the house my room
03:30probably left the mess or something i don't know it was like uh your boy's got cancer i was like
03:37who's my boy he's like me i got cancer and i can hear it on the phone that he's like
03:42laughing got a
03:43smile on his face i was like dude like are you serious he's like yeah yeah i'll be all good
03:48yes
03:48i'll be out by august that's my august yeah he was like yeah he's like we're already we're good
03:55like i'll be done it's like wow like that's an insane perspective to have to like obviously you
04:02got to make light of a situation where you can but i mean he is telling me that he got
04:06just got
04:07diagnosed with cancer like a day earlier and he was just light-hearted about it just ready to go and
04:14and every day i'd walk in and you know talk to him at the house or whatever i would sit
04:17down and
04:18watch some football i was like yeah i'll beat it in a minute like he was whatever the deadline is
04:23like that's the day i'm gonna beat it like there wasn't a thought about like oh it could stick
04:26around like i might not be it's like yep it's just another thing i have to do and then i'll
04:30come back
04:30out and play more pro golf and and i think that that kind of it does like you said it
04:36just gives
04:36you a whole new perspective on just life in general like golf is one not everything but it can also
04:42be
04:42taken from you literally a day
04:44you
