00:00And with just two weeks to go until the U.S. midterm elections, a new poll places President Donald Trump's
00:06approval rating at a record low of 31%.
00:10While spread discontent over the economy and rising fuel prices has pushed Democrats to a double-digit lead in national
00:17polling.
00:18For a full breakdown on the figures, our correspondent Dan Albright has the details.
00:25With just two weeks until the U.S. midterm elections, Donald Trump is headed into the final stretch with the
00:32lowest approval rating of either of his presidencies.
00:36A new Reuters-Ipsos poll finds that just 31% of the U.S. public approves of his performance.
00:43But perhaps more significant for November, when voters were asked which party they would support for Congress,
00:50Democrats led Republicans 47% to 35%.
00:54That's a 12-point advantage, up from 7 points just two weeks ago.
01:00And the main reason why? The economy.
01:0368% disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy, including more than one in three Republicans.
01:11This comes as households continue to face high costs for food, housing, and energy,
01:16while the war with Iran has pushed fuel prices even higher.
01:20The question for Republicans is whether dissatisfaction with Trump is now beginning to translate into votes against their party.
01:31Now, national polling can't tell us exactly what Congress will look like after November.
01:37House races are, of course, decided district by district,
01:40while control of the Senate depends on a small number of competitive races.
01:45But with Democrats now holding a double-digit advantage nationally,
01:50these numbers suggest Republicans are entering the final two weeks of the campaign
01:55facing a much more difficult political environment.
01:59The Reuters-Ipsos poll included 1,679 U.S. adults, including 1,279 registered voters,
02:07with a margin of error of two percentage points overall and three points among registered voters.
