A Porsche must be recognisable as a Porsche at first glance,” says Dr Michael Leiters, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “The Mission S provides a glimpse of the ideas and design features that will shape Porsche in the coming years.” The focus is on the authentic, consequent and timeless design of the vehicle and a particularly intense connection between driver and car. “At the same time, the Mission S represents a mid-engined super sports car platform positioned above the 911 – not as a one-off hypercar, but as a permanent and versatile addition to our customer offering,” adds Leiters.

The Porsche Mission S celebrates its world premiere today (Thursday) at a location of historical significance to the company: a pier in Queens, New York, with a view of the Manhattan skyline beyond. The first pictures of the mid-engined Porsche 550 Spyder on this very pier made their way around the world in 1953. As the brand's first super sports car, the 550 Spyder is still regarded today as having defined the company's identity. At the same time, it laid an important foundation for Porsche's popularity and success in the US. By choosing this location, Porsche is emphasising the importance of its history for the future of design and brand – a claim that is also reflected in the Mission S.

00:10if you walk up to the car you need to feel it and you need to see it you want
00:16to drive it this was
00:18our aim we just wanted to have a beautiful car with beautiful proportions with a lot of drama
00:25and the surfaces something that you want to touch something that you want to look at and something
00:30of course that you want to drive this is the essence of Porsche because that unites beauty
00:38and technology in one car and you want to feel the machine you want to hear the engine sound you
00:45want to experience the Porsche and this is what it is nothing else authentic consequent and timeless
01:01positioned above a 911 what we have here is a statement based on our new form language it's
01:09clear that it's a mid-engine car yeah so you see how low our typical fly line sits we have
01:17very
01:17emphasized shoulders yeah we have the torpedo fenders that go around the car one line that runs around the
01:23car yeah from the front into the side into the rear and up towards our fly line form and function
01:33is
01:33united and you see it in every area we have a graphic that goes underneath the headlight so the
01:41fenders sit higher than the bonnet very important also because when you sit inside the car then you
01:47want to see where your wheels are standing when you drive you have a technical feature that is also a
01:53sculptural feature when we see the body side we see a concept that really screams
02:10sports car
02:12we have an aerodynamic feature that the whole c-post is open to get the air around the car into
02:20the rear
02:20wing we have a rear end when we walk around the car we have those dramatic rear fenders really bringing
02:27out the volume of the car we have graphics that are almost bauhaus like that gives the car structure
02:35we have a lot of tension yeah so we have the separation of the rear lights we also see here
02:41now our pebble section this is our flywheel every porsche enthusiast must know that feature
02:49um it's the interpretation of the flywheel that we saw in a porsche 917 so we decided to go for
02:57a white
02:57car but we didn't want to have a just a normal white what we wanted to create is a white
03:04that has a lot of
03:04flop a lot of light and shadow and a lot of drama in the surfaces and in contrast to that
03:11yeah we have
03:12carbon fiber real carbon fiber on the on the bottom anodized red details which we have as a door opener
03:20and of course the brake calipers show that as well when you think of porsche then you think of a
03:28key
03:29and where do you put the key of course you put it on the left side very important when you
03:35sit in
03:35a car like that you don't want to feel claustrophobic you want to feel integrated in the car you want
03:42to
03:42be surrounded by the interior same simplicity that we found in the exterior we find in the interior
03:51yeah we have a very clear theme one line that goes around the car from the dashboard into the doors
03:59and into the rear of the seats when we then start this car
04:08we have our five diets the rev counter sits in the center can really focus on driving really focus
04:16on what is important so i need to see the street i need to see my fenders i need to
04:22see the speed
04:22and i need to see the rev counter if i now change the drive mode the clocks are moving backwards
04:30and i
04:31can focus more and the rev counter comes closer to me so i can really focus on what is important
04:40if i then want to be completely alone with this car i can turn off all supporting elements
04:49by pushing the on your own button you have the pure driving experience that you want
04:57so now you wonder where is my navigation system and i can show you
05:05this is where your iphone will sit now you have a navigation system this is all you need then on
05:14the center console you see number zero zero one it's the first of its kind
05:24it's very simple and the simplicity in the surfaces in every detail in the exterior in the interior
