00:00It was based off of the quote,
00:02you can't control the cards you were dealt,
00:04but you can control the way that you play them.
00:06And I feel like in every obstacle and challenge
00:09that I was presented with, I played a hell of a hand.
00:16We're here for a superstar Q&A.
00:20I'm very happy to see you.
00:21Very happy to...
00:23I mean, what a year you've had, Becky.
00:27How are you feeling?
00:28Just in terms of just looking back on this year,
00:31we're, you know, in the fourth quarter now,
00:33personally, professionally.
00:35Well, that sounds super professional.
00:37How do we feel in the fourth quarter now?
00:40I'm feeling very accomplished.
00:42Give me your quarterly report.
00:43I'm feeling very blessed.
00:46Yeah.
00:46Yeah, no, definitivamente me siento super bendecida.
00:51Siento como que este año fue...
00:54It was a life-changing year in a lot of ways.
00:57I released my album, Baraja Bendita,
01:00which is my fifth studio album,
01:04which is crazy to say out loud
01:06because there was a moment in my career
01:07where I didn't think I would ever be able to release even one.
01:10Yeah.
01:10So, yeah, I'm feeling really accomplished and really blessed.
01:13We were talking backstage about how pivotal this album
01:17has been artistically, commercially.
01:23This came out like two months ago.
01:25What's the response been like?
01:27The response has been...
01:29I don't know if I like to use the word rewarding
01:33because rewarding sounds like, I don't know,
01:37like something that...
01:39It was very satisfying for me as an artist
01:42to create this album and releasing it
01:44was kind of the release.
01:46It was like literal release to the world.
01:48It felt already accomplishing just to make it.
01:52So then the bonus was the fans' reaction
01:55and them loving it so much.
01:58And so that's been, I think, the best part
02:00is seeing them connect with it
02:01the same way that I did when I made it.
02:03Did you go into this album with like...
02:05You mentioned this is your fifth studio album.
02:07Did you go into it with some sort of mission statement?
02:09Because you've been relatively prolific
02:12over the past five years.
02:14When you started thinking about these songs,
02:16thinking about putting them together into a project,
02:18did you have some sort of like,
02:19okay, this is the purpose for this one?
02:21Absolutely, yes.
02:23I think vision is really important for artists.
02:28For me, Baraja Bendita was an accumulation.
02:31I think it was...
02:36it was the time to make this album
02:38because when I think of younger me
02:43and I think of the young woman that I've become today,
02:46there's a lot of things that still mirror one another.
02:48There's an essence that's still there.
02:50And it's my duality.
02:51It's the fact that I'm a Spanglish speaker.
02:55It's the fact that I'm a genre-less artist.
02:59And it is a genre-less album
03:01and it is a Spanglish album unapologetically.
03:04And I think that I got signed in a time
03:06where that wasn't necessarily as celebrated as it is today.
03:10And so, yeah, it's been beautiful.
03:14It's been really beautiful.
03:16I had that vision very clearly for Baraja Bendita.
03:19That's awesome.
03:21In terms of the production,
03:23I love...
03:24We were talking a little bit about certain songs backstage,
03:26but I love the tempo of this album.
03:30For anyone who hasn't listened to it yet,
03:32it really is like you pop it on,
03:34it is propulsive in parts.
03:36I'm curious how you specifically found the sound
03:40that you were aiming for.
03:42I don't think I went in saying
03:43I need it to be this genre, this specific sound.
03:47I just knew...
03:48Can I say bad words?
03:50I just...
03:50Before I say anything, I'm like,
03:51I just knew I wanted to fuck shit up.
03:52I wanted to do fun stuff.
03:54I wanted to make fun music.
03:55Siento como que cuando grabé mis últimos discos,
03:59Esquinas y Encuentros,
04:01eran mis discos de sanar muchas cosas
04:04en mi vida,
04:06profesionalmente y también personalmente.
04:09Entonces, it allowed me to, like,
04:11make a lot more room for fun, for play.
04:13And the concept of Baraja Bendita was based off of...
04:18Because in English,
04:19it translates to the blessed deck of cards.
04:21Yeah.
04:22And it was based off of the quote,
04:24you can't control the cards you were dealt,
04:27but you can control the way that you play them.
04:29And I feel like in every obstacle and challenge
04:32that I was presented with,
04:33I played a hell of a hand.
04:34Whether people knew it or not,
04:36I was putting my best foot forward.
04:37And I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for that.
04:41So, yeah.
04:43Yeah.
04:43Is it even more meaningful that you mentioned
04:46that you didn't even know
04:46if you were going to put out an album
04:48or two albums now that you have...
04:50Now that you have five...
04:52Five.
04:53I know, it's crazy.
04:55It's been a season of completion for me.
04:58I feel like a lot of things are coming full circle.
05:01I've been in these spaces for many years now.
05:05So, the only difference is that
05:08there's a different version of me that's showing up.
05:10You know, I've always loved being here.
05:12I was talking to Leila
05:14about one of my first ever Billboard panels.
05:19And it was me, Carol, Anita, Nati.
05:23And it was beautiful and it was amazing.
05:25And we were all there together.
05:27And now to still be here so many years later
05:29and feel like I'm just getting started
05:31is the best.
05:32That's awesome.
05:33I wanted to add...
05:34So, that was the last time you were at Latin Music Week.
05:36Yeah.
05:36You were here with Nadia, Natasha, Anita, Carol G.
05:41You guys are all thriving.
05:42Like, you guys are all just absolutely crushing it.
05:46What has it been like seeing room created
05:50for more women in Latin Music and Spanish Language Music
05:53to become superstars?
05:54Yeah, pues lo vimos ayer.
05:56We had another amazing panel
05:57with so many amazing female artists
06:01coming together.
06:02Y siempre ha dicho que juntas somos más.
06:04We're so much more when we come together.
06:06And so, I don't know.
06:08I guess a part of me feels like it's about time.
06:10Yeah.
06:11Yeah.
06:11It's like it's been long overdue, you know?
06:13She agrees with me.
06:14She's like, mm-hmm, yep.
06:16Period.
06:16Period.
06:17And are you guys...
06:19I'm sure you're also, like,
06:20you're collaborating with, you know,
06:24some of those superstars.
06:25You're touring with some of those superstars.
06:26Yeah.
06:27So, you're constantly still in touch with them.
06:28Yeah, for sure.
06:29I mean, I feel really blessed
06:32to have collaborated with many amazing artists
06:36throughout the years of my career.
06:39I think that the friendships that were earned
06:42through those experiences,
06:43and I say earned intentionally
06:44because it's not a given, you know?
06:47Especially between women in an industry
06:49where very often we're pit against one another,
06:52and maybe not as much today
06:55as it was 10 years ago,
06:57but I do think that, you know,
07:01you have to be vulnerable,
07:02and you have to expose yourself,
07:03and you have to reach out,
07:04and sometimes ask for help,
07:06or ask questions,
07:07and I feel really lucky
07:09that on the other side of that
07:10have been sisters, you know?
07:13There's no sisterhood that's been made
07:14with a lot of them
07:15that allows me to be able
07:16to connect with them still.
07:18You know, I was going to ask about
07:20being pitted against each other,
07:22and also you mentioned that
07:23when you, at the start of your career,
07:25there was way less acceptance of Spanglish
07:28and kind of crossing over
07:30into different worlds and different scenes.
07:33How do you look back on
07:34what the industry was like
07:36when you entered it?
07:37Because it feels like,
07:40to me, as an outsider,
07:43pretty unrecognizable to what it is now,
07:45but you lived it.
07:46You started your career in that world.
07:49Yeah, it's very different.
07:50Yeah.
07:51It's very different,
07:51and I think that in order to see the change,
07:55you have to be the change,
07:56and I think that a lot of us
07:57are practicing it
08:00by reaching out to one another,
08:02by connecting with one another,
08:03and I think that that's
08:04a really big part of it
08:05because nothing changes
08:06if nothing changes, you know?
08:08Yeah.
08:08What do you think has been, like,
08:10the biggest change for you personally
08:12just in terms of your approach?
08:13I've always said
08:14that there's not a lack of talent.
08:15There's not a lack of hustle.
08:17There's not a lack of willingness
08:20in our community,
08:21but there is a lack of opportunity,
08:22and I think that systemically
08:24within record label infrastructures,
08:27within press infrastructures,
08:28and the same with, like, radio
08:30and just promo overall,
08:31one thing that I remember hearing a lot
08:34when I was starting out was,
08:36well, women don't sell tickets.
08:37Okay, that's one thing.
08:38Well, we already have
08:39one female in rotation,
08:40so better luck next time,
08:42next single, next cycle,
08:44and it was like
08:45there was one seat at the table,
08:47and I think now the season we're in
08:48is we're building our own table,
08:50and at our table, everyone eats.
08:53Everyone, you know, can sit,
08:55find a chair.
08:56We can extend the table if we want.
08:57We can move the table
08:58for a dance floor if we want to.
09:00You know, we could do,
09:01we decide,
09:01and I think that that's been
09:02the most beautiful part so far.
09:05That's really cool.
09:06That's, that's really encouraging to hear.
09:09You know, I feel like it's been
09:10not only for women in Latin,
09:13but for Latin music as a whole,
09:15there have been so many records shattered
09:18over the course of your career
09:20by you, by other artists,
09:22in terms of venue sizes,
09:25in terms of awards,
09:26in terms of radio placement.
09:29I guess my question is,
09:31why, why was now the right time?
09:33Why were, why was now the right time
09:35in terms of like glass ceiling shattering?
09:37And because you,
09:38you saw that evolution happening.
09:39Yeah.
09:40Was it just so much pressure
09:41it had to shatter?
09:42I don't know.
09:43I also believe like,
09:46I have my frustrations as an artist,
09:48and we all do, right?
09:49But I always say,
09:51God is never late.
09:52Like, he's never late.
09:55And so,
09:55I think everything happens
09:57the way it's supposed to,
09:58and you just have to trust that.
10:00And I think that that
10:01is really hard to practice in a,
10:03especially in a time,
10:04in a generation,
10:05where we're so instantly gratified,
10:06and we get things so quickly,
10:07and we consume things so quickly,
10:09and we have to deliver things so quickly,
10:10that we forget that
10:11it's the journey that teaches us.
10:13Yeah.
10:14Like, it really is the process,
10:15and so I'm able to value
10:17what I have today
10:18so much more
10:20because I didn't get it
10:21when I wanted it.
10:22Yeah.
10:22I got it when I needed it,
10:24and those are two different things.
10:26Yeah, it's so interesting
10:27you bring that up, too,
10:27because at Billboard,
10:28we talk all the time
10:29about how artists
10:30are breaking through,
10:33like, no longer
10:34or less often as teens
10:36and more as, like,
10:37in their early 20s,
10:38mid-20s, late 20s,
10:39even their early 30s
10:40because of that kind
10:42of seasoning process, right?
10:43Because they're, like,
10:44hustling, they're growing,
10:45they're building,
10:46and then when they break through,
10:47they're ready for it,
10:49and they kind of
10:49hit the ground running.
10:50Yeah.
10:51I mean, I feel like
10:52there's a lot of examples
10:53of all of our favorite
10:54overnight successes
10:55taking about 10 years.
10:57Yeah.
10:58So, you know,
10:59it's just, again,
11:00we don't see it
11:01because what we post
11:02is the edited,
11:04filtered, teeny-tiny,
11:05microscopic part
11:06of the journey.
11:07It's never the whole thing.
11:08I think that's why
11:09releasing my documentary,
11:10Rebecca,
11:10was such a big deal for me
11:12because there was so much
11:13that's happened in my life
11:14that no one had any idea with,
11:17idea about,
11:19and what I had to deal with,
11:20and so letting my fans in
11:23in that way
11:24during the process
11:25of Esquinas and Encuentros
11:26then allowed them
11:27to receive Baraja Bendita
11:28so differently,
11:29so all of it
11:30is important, I feel.
11:32How did the documentary
11:33come together?
11:33Because you and I
11:34haven't talked
11:35since it came out.
11:36Yeah.
11:37How did it come about?
11:40Well, I think
11:41there's always been
11:42a lot of opportunities
11:45around me,
11:46my family.
11:47It never felt like
11:48the right time.
11:49It could be a big opportunity,
11:50but it doesn't always mean
11:51it's the right opportunity.
11:53And so,
11:56this documentary,
11:57I felt like
11:58when this opportunity
11:59came to me,
12:00I was, like,
12:01right in the middle of it.
12:03Most times,
12:03we see the documentary
12:04at the top
12:06when the artist
12:07has already made it
12:08or when they're
12:08no longer here.
12:09Yeah.
12:10Or we see it
12:10right at the very beginning.
12:12Very rarely
12:13do we see the artist
12:14right in the thick of it.
12:16And I felt like
12:17if I were Little Me,
12:18I would have benefited
12:19from seeing an artist
12:22who isn't just yet
12:24and isn't anymore.
12:26They just are.
12:27And I think that
12:28that's what Rebecca is.
12:30I just am Rebecca.
12:32Yeah.
12:32Yeah.
12:33We've talked a lot
12:34about your music.
12:35I want to talk about
12:37film.
12:38Yeah, let's do it.
12:41First of all,
12:43I'm sure you get
12:44a ton of film offers,
12:46a ton of film queries.
12:49How do you find
12:50the balance for,
12:50okay, I actually want to,
12:52I have time to make for this.
12:54This is the right project
12:55for me.
12:56And how did that
12:58happen recently?
12:59It's hard.
13:00There's been a lot of things
13:02that I've wanted
13:02to participate in
13:03that because of time
13:05I haven't,
13:06I didn't get to do.
13:07Yeah.
13:08There's also things
13:09that just because
13:10I'm Becky G
13:11have come my way
13:11and made absolutely
13:12no sense.
13:14Oh, really?
13:14Yeah.
13:15I'm like,
13:15we should talk
13:16to the casting director.
13:17I know a lot
13:18of other people
13:18who are much more
13:19fit for this role.
13:21and challenging
13:21the industry that way
13:22sometimes,
13:23you know,
13:23what you're saying
13:23yes to is also
13:24recognizing what
13:25you're saying no to
13:26and what you're saying
13:26no to is also
13:27recognizing what
13:27you're saying yes to.
13:28So I think that
13:30recently I just wrapped
13:31up a film that was
13:33talked about yesterday,
13:34Guerrero.
13:36Let's go.
13:37They're very excited
13:38about it here
13:38because we've got
13:39some of the Guerrero
13:40family present.
13:42And I think that
13:43it's actually like
13:44my first,
13:45music was always
13:46around growing up
13:48but my first
13:48chosen love
13:50was acting
13:51growing up.
13:52I started when
13:53I was nine years old
13:54and it's something
13:56that I love very much
13:58and I would love
13:58to do more.
13:59Yeah.
14:00So why was that
14:01the right project?
14:02Oh, for a lot of reasons.
14:03I think the actual story
14:05called out to me
14:06on like a soul level.
14:09It's so much bigger
14:10than I think
14:12anything
14:12that I've seen
14:14out there
14:15that represents
14:16something so close
14:18to home for me.
14:19A lot of the characters
14:21embody experiences
14:23that I've gone through
14:24myself
14:24or that people
14:25that I love
14:26very dearly
14:26have gone through
14:27and I also think
14:29that in general
14:31it's a boxing film
14:33but it's so much more.
14:34It's also a coming of age
14:36and figuring things out
14:37and figuring them out
14:38not alone
14:39in community
14:40and talking about
14:41mental health
14:42and there's just
14:42so many layers to it
14:43so there was nothing
14:46about it
14:46that said no.
14:47It was an absolute
14:49yes.
14:49I have to do this.
14:50I must do this.
14:51And the experience
14:51was?
14:52Incredible.
14:53That's so cool.
14:54Yeah.
14:54Was it just
14:55re-entering that world?
14:58Was it like
14:58picked it right back up?
14:59Yeah.
15:00Well, if I walked
15:01onto my first set
15:02at nine years old
15:03I did my first
15:04studio film at 19
15:05and then I did
15:06Guerrero at 29
15:07so it's really cool
15:08to look at
15:10the decades
15:11of experience
15:12that kind of
15:13accumulated
15:13and I think
15:14the version of me
15:15that showed up on set
15:16was much closer
15:17to the nine-year-old
15:18version of me
15:18which was like
15:19with a lot of curiosity
15:20and a lot of
15:22imagination
15:22and wonder
15:25and it was fascinating.
15:27I mean,
15:27obviously it depends
15:28on the projects
15:28but is it something
15:29that you want to do
15:30more and more?
15:31Yes.
15:32Yeah.
15:32Yeah.
15:33And not just in front
15:33of the camera
15:34behind the camera too.
15:35I love the idea
15:35of producing
15:36and directing
15:37and all of that.
15:38I think it's incredible.
15:40I'm a storyteller.
15:41Yeah.
15:41You know,
15:42music is a vessel
15:43for that
15:43but so is acting
15:46and all kinds
15:48of other things.
15:49How do you find time
15:51for the kind of
15:52non-creative
15:55parts of your career
15:56in terms of
15:57brand partnerships,
15:59being an entrepreneur,
16:01like, you know,
16:02fashion,
16:03obviously that is creative
16:04but in terms of
16:05just like,
16:05you are very busy,
16:07Becky G.
16:08How do you find,
16:09how do you make
16:10the space for everything?
16:11I try to be
16:12in spaces
16:13where I'm inspired.
16:16It makes the sacrifice
16:18a lot more worth it.
16:19I think that
16:20this industry
16:20is already very hard.
16:22Yeah.
16:22So why make it
16:23harder on ourselves?
16:23I think we have
16:24to be very honest
16:26about who we
16:27surround ourselves with,
16:28about the spaces
16:29that we want to be in.
16:30Like I said earlier,
16:31not every opportunity
16:32is the right opportunity.
16:33It could be a great one
16:34but it doesn't mean
16:35it's the right one
16:35and I think that
16:36the discernment
16:37is like a muscle
16:38and I've been able
16:39to like develop
16:40this muscle
16:41where I'm like,
16:41oh, hell yeah,
16:42I really want to do that.
16:43I know I won't be able
16:43to sleep like this panel.
16:46I haven't really slept
16:47but I really wanted
16:48to be here
16:49and I really wanted
16:49to do this
16:50and I really wanted
16:51to be surrounded
16:51by all you guys
16:52and everyone who's here
16:53and all of my peers.
16:55Yeah.
16:56It's special.
16:57It's really special.
16:58So, you know,
17:01speaking of,
17:02speaking of,
17:02you know,
17:03finding balance
17:04and prioritizing things
17:05that you are so active
17:07in so many different communities.
17:11I'm curious about that
17:12just in terms of,
17:13and I want to talk about
17:14how much amazing work
17:16you've done
17:17in your community
17:18but just in terms
17:19of the time,
17:21like,
17:21because you are,
17:22you know,
17:22you're traveling.
17:23One tiny five foot little person.
17:24Well, not five foot
17:25in these heels.
17:26I will say that.
17:26I'm a little taller
17:27in these.
17:28But how do you find time
17:30to say like,
17:31okay,
17:32I have a lot going on.
17:33I'm pretty tired.
17:34This is important.
17:35I got to be here
17:36for my community.
17:36It's just a non-negotiable
17:37for me.
17:38Yeah.
17:38It's something that's
17:39like a standard
17:40for me and my team
17:41and every brand partnership
17:44that I have,
17:45there's always embedded
17:46within a give back
17:49and in every project
17:50that I do,
17:51there has to be
17:51something more
17:52that is bigger
17:53than the me
17:53but about the we of it
17:55because I think that
17:56the reality of it
17:57is I wouldn't be
17:58where I am today
17:58if it weren't
17:58for my community
17:59and there's this community
18:01and then there's
18:02the community
18:02that raised me
18:03or as my abuelita
18:04likes to call
18:04our little pueblito
18:07porque si somos muchos
18:10and community
18:10is everything.
18:11Like,
18:12community makes
18:12everything better
18:13and everything's
18:13better in community
18:14and so for me
18:15it's a non-negotiable
18:16and I have so many
18:18amazing relationships
18:19and partnerships
18:19with people who,
18:21you know,
18:21are doing the boots
18:23on the ground work
18:23every single day
18:24and I think that
18:25as an artist
18:25with a platform
18:27to not use it
18:28to elevate their voices
18:30and amplify their voices
18:32just doesn't sit well
18:33with me
18:34and I know it's intimidating
18:34for a lot of artists
18:37but not for me
18:38and I think that
18:39art and advocacy
18:40can coexist.
18:41I think that's actually
18:42where a lot of change
18:43happens,
18:44you know?
18:44I mean,
18:46I really,
18:47really admire
18:47the work you've put in
18:49and how outspoken
18:50you've been
18:50on behalf of
18:51the immigrant community
18:53in the U.S.
18:55Yeah,
18:55I've been out for it.
18:57Is that something
18:58that,
18:59you know,
18:59again,
19:00you have to learn
19:02how to use your platform
19:03the most effectively?
19:03Obviously,
19:04this is something
19:04that's personally
19:05really important to you
19:05but in terms,
19:06when you really started
19:08becoming more outspoken
19:09were you like,
19:09what's the best way
19:10I can really use
19:11my platform?
19:11Yeah,
19:12I think education,
19:13educating ourselves
19:14and not letting
19:16fake videos
19:17on the internet
19:17tell you
19:18what is right
19:19and what is wrong.
19:21I think the heart
19:21is never wrong
19:22and I think that
19:23what our community
19:23is going through,
19:25it's very clear
19:26that,
19:28you know,
19:28we need to lean
19:29into one another
19:30and we need to
19:30protect each other
19:31and I think I stand
19:33in a very unique position
19:34as a 200 percenter,
19:36as a Latina
19:37who was born here
19:38in the States,
19:39in L.A.
19:40You know,
19:41Los Angeles,
19:41used to be Mexico,
19:43so did all of California
19:44entonces,
19:46for me,
19:46it's personal,
19:47it really is
19:48and this is about,
19:49you know,
19:49being a voice
19:49for those who can't speak.
19:51I love you so much.
19:52Te quiero,
19:53thank you,
19:53mommy.
19:55What advice
19:56would you give
19:56to an artist
19:57who wants to be more
20:00outspoken politically
20:01and doesn't really
20:02know exactly
20:03how to do that,
20:04how to accomplish that?
20:05Be curious.
20:06Yeah.
20:07Ask questions.
20:07There's no such thing
20:08as stupid questions.
20:09I think we don't talk
20:10about it
20:11because within our community,
20:12we're so diverse
20:13and we actually
20:14are all so different
20:15and that's okay.
20:17We have,
20:18as a Latino community,
20:19we have settled
20:20for this one-size-fits-all
20:21mentality
20:22and we are so different.
20:24Even within Mexico,
20:25we make tamales
20:26differently,
20:27you know?
20:28And so those nuances
20:30and those differences
20:31and seeing each other
20:32for them
20:32actually brings us closer
20:33and it creates
20:36a different connection
20:37with one another
20:38and it actually
20:39does make us one
20:40and so I would tell
20:41young artists
20:42to one,
20:42be more curious,
20:43of course,
20:43educate yourself
20:44and then two,
20:46I mean three,
20:46I would say keep creating
20:47because Latino joy
20:49is so important.
20:50Like,
20:50we need to see
20:51our joy.
20:52That to me
20:53is part of the resistance.
20:54That's why I created
20:55the song Epa.
20:56Epa was,
20:57you know,
20:57one of the leading singles
20:58off of Baraja Bendita
20:59and it was about that.
21:02It was about
21:03how we are,
21:05somos gente,
21:06that, you know,
21:06we dance in the rain.
21:08Some people say,
21:09don't rain on my parade.
21:09No, you can rain
21:10on our parade.
21:11We're still dancing.
21:12Yeah.
21:12You know?
21:13Yeah.
21:14I love that.
21:16You know,
21:16I was also curious
21:18in terms of advice
21:19for other artists.
21:19Like,
21:19you are someone
21:20who has refused
21:21to be tied down
21:22into one genre,
21:23into one scene.
21:24You've been,
21:25you are unable
21:27to be pigeonholed.
21:28Becky G.
21:29I'm,
21:30I talk to a lot
21:31of artists
21:31who feel like
21:33they want to explore
21:34different sounds,
21:34different ideas,
21:35but also have to kind
21:36of abide by
21:36their core fan base.
21:39How do you find
21:40that,
21:40that balance
21:41where you're like,
21:42I want to kind of
21:43try something different.
21:43I want to move
21:44in a different direction,
21:45but also like,
21:46I want to,
21:46I don't want to betray
21:47like my day one supporters.
21:49I think I make music
21:51the way I listen to it.
21:52I don't just listen
21:53to one genre.
21:54Yeah.
21:55You know?
21:56And I think that
21:57there are some artists
21:58who like to
22:00stick to something
22:01because of a sonic
22:02experience for fans,
22:04and I think that's
22:04what Esquinas
22:05and Encuentros
22:05was for me,
22:08but I just,
22:09I make music
22:10the way I listen to it.
22:11I'm a fan first,
22:12and I'm a fan
22:13of so many artists
22:14of so many different,
22:15you know,
22:16countries
22:17and different languages,
22:18and so to kind of
22:19limit my creativity
22:21doesn't feel right.
22:22It feels
22:23very wrong,
22:24actually.
22:26And I guess
22:26there is a sense of
22:30for a label
22:31or a suit
22:32who's sitting at a table
22:34or in an office
22:35to feel like,
22:37well,
22:37it's kind of confusing
22:38for fans.
22:39Well,
22:39it's not confusing for me,
22:40and I love it,
22:41and my core fans
22:42also love it.
22:43So,
22:43I don't know.
22:44It's just kind of like,
22:45it's just,
22:46I like to do me.
22:47Someone who's wearing a suit,
22:49I am not.
22:49I also love it.
22:50It's okay.
22:51I like suits, too.
22:52You're a cool suit.
22:54You leave the office.
22:55Yeah, I try.
22:56Yeah, you're at Latin,
22:57you know,
22:58Billboard Music League
22:59in Miami
23:00at the bar.
23:01Like,
23:02you're a cool suit.
23:03I'm talking about the guy
23:03that doesn't leave the office,
23:05that doesn't grow,
23:05doesn't evolve,
23:06doesn't,
23:07you know,
23:08continue learning.
23:09Yeah.
23:09It's so funny.
23:10Like,
23:10you really do need to
23:13that's always my advice
23:14for anyone within
23:14the music industry
23:15is like,
23:16get out,
23:16get out there.
23:17See the scene.
23:18Go see what's actually
23:19resonating with people.
23:20You gotta be in the streets.
23:21You gotta see what's happening.
23:22And also,
23:22you have to live life
23:23in order to write about it.
23:24Yeah.
23:25Yeah.
23:28Obviously,
23:29you just put out
23:29a very significant project.
23:32Are you someone
23:32who is already thinking
23:33of like new song ideas
23:34or constantly,
23:35like constantly creating
23:36in that way?
23:36Or are you kind of like,
23:37I'm gonna put,
23:38press pause on this
23:39for a minute.
23:39I'm trying to live life
23:40in order to write about it
23:41these days.
23:42So,
23:43I'm just living life.
23:44I'm enjoying it.
23:46And I feel really,
23:47again,
23:48really blessed
23:48to be in a position
23:49where if I really wanted
23:51to go to the studio today,
23:53I could go to the studio today.
23:55But yeah,
23:56I'm always thinking
23:56about ideas and concepts
23:57and I already have
23:58my next project
23:59and very,
24:00very clear.
24:00I have for the last two years
24:01even while I was making
24:02Barra Habanita.
24:03So,
24:04you know.
24:05Wow.
24:05Yeah.
24:06Okay.
24:06So a little bit
24:07of long-term thinking.
24:08Okay.
24:10what's next
24:11in terms of 2027?
24:12You already talked
24:13about the film.
24:15More shows.
24:16More shows.
24:17A few more shows.
24:19Maybe some sleep.
24:22some good comida.
24:232027.
24:24Yeah.
24:24Take it in a nap.
24:25I'm ready for the posadas,
24:26okay?
24:26I don't know about anybody else,
24:28but I'm ready for the posadas.
24:29I'm ready for some pozole.
24:30I'm ready for some tamales.
24:34I'm ready to celebrate
24:36my godson's first birthday.
24:38There's so many things happening
24:40that this is like
24:40my family time,
24:41actually.
24:43I was just going to,
24:44my last question was actually
24:45how you stay grounded
24:47amidst it all,
24:48but you just kind of
24:48share the secret sauce
24:50with your family.
24:51It's always been family.
24:52That's the way to do it.
24:54Becky,
24:55this has been wonderful.
24:56I'm so happy to chat with you
24:57about all facets
24:58of your career
24:59and thank you
25:01for taking the time
25:01to kind of talk about everything.
25:02And thank you to everybody
25:03who came and watched.
25:05Thank you so much.
