00:01That bans corporate PACs and super PACs so billionaires don't buy our elections.
00:07That bans members of Congress in both political parties from trading stocks and enriching themselves while they're in public office.
00:15That will ban gerrymandering nationwide in red states and blue states alike.
00:27And that will enact term limits so we can show these puppet politicians the door.
00:32That is the kind of comprehensive anti-corruption agenda we desperately need in this country.
00:37That's why they're spending so much money against us.
00:42It is so good to see you.
00:44Go Cougs!
00:46Thank you for being here.
00:48Thank you, thank you, thank you.
00:50I want to thank Congressman Kenzinger, if he's still here, for his service and his friendship.
00:56And I want to thank my dear friend, Representative Jolanda Jones, who is a fierce champion for students and working
01:04people.
01:05And I don't know if she mentioned this to you, but she is a proud alum of the University of
01:09Houston.
01:10And she was a star athlete here at the University of Houston.
01:15I think Joe Jones is in two halls of fame here at the University of Houston.
01:20So it's so good to be here with my dear friend.
01:22And I'm so thankful that all of you showed up.
01:25It is great to be back here at U of H.
01:28And I just, I want to tell you, we launched our Clear Eyes Full Hearts tour just a few days
01:33ago.
01:33We are going across this state in the final days of this election.
01:37At this time of year in Texas, there is no better place to be than a high school football game.
01:43The band, the roar of the crowd, the chill in the air.
01:49And everyone in town, no matter what you look like, no matter where you come from, is there for the
01:54same reason.
01:54To root for the same team.
01:57When I was in high school, they were filming a TV show in our town.
02:01It was called Friday Night Lights.
02:05It's a show about the Dillon Panthers, an underdog high school football team, and their coach, Eric Taylor.
02:12In the very first episode, right before the big game, Coach Taylor gives a locker room speech.
02:18And he says, they're going to come at you with everything they've got.
02:22I expect you boys to execute.
02:25I expect you boys to play football.
02:27And then he ends with those six immortal words, clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
02:36U of H, there is a moment in every game, the last play of the last drive, when you have
02:43to leave it all on the field.
02:45We are in that moment.
02:48In the final days of this election, they're coming at us with everything they've got.
02:52The billionaire mega donors, the super PACs, they are spending $200 million in attack ads against us.
03:00That is the most of any Senate race in American history.
03:04And more is on the way.
03:06They are scared.
03:08They are terrified.
03:09They see what we see, that we're about to win this election.
03:21We are building a movement to take back our state and take back our country.
03:27We are uniting Texans of all backgrounds and all beliefs onto one team to take on this broken, corrupt political
03:36system.
03:37We have recruited more than 60,000 people to volunteer, to knock on doors, to make phone calls, to send
03:43text messages.
03:44And if you haven't signed up to volunteer, I hope you'll do that when you go home after this event
03:49on our website.
03:50We have shattered every grassroots fundraising record in American history, and we've done it without taking a dime from corporate
03:58PACs.
03:59This is a people power campaign.
04:07And on November 3rd, we are going to do something extraordinary.
04:12We are going to do something historic.
04:14We are going to shock the nation.
04:16We're going to shock the world when we take back Texas and end 30 years of one party rule in
04:22our state.
04:30I have traveled every corner of Texas, from Beaumont to El Paso, from Amarillo to Brownsville.
04:38We've had thousands of Texans showing up at our events.
04:41I can't tell you the number of people who come up to me at the end of these events and
04:46whisper, I'm not a Democrat.
04:50Like they're in the witness protection program.
04:53I can't tell you the number of young people who have showed up at our events and told me it's
04:59the first political event they've ever attended.
05:02That is how we change the politics of this state and of this country.
05:11You know, we forget that politics is supposed to be about service.
05:18Elected officials aren't supposed to serve themselves.
05:20They're not supposed to serve their mega donors.
05:22They're supposed to serve us.
05:24They're supposed to serve the people.
05:26I first learned the meaning of public service from my great grandfather, my Papi.
05:32He was a barber in Port O'Connor, Texas, on the Gulf Coast.
05:36And he served this country in World War II in the Pacific theater.
05:42Papi was a member of the greatest generation, a group of Americans who asked not what their country could do
05:48for them, but what they could do for their country.
05:51And whether he was cutting his neighbor's hair or fighting fascism on the other side of the world, Papi was
05:57always serving other people.
05:59He was a faithful man.
06:03That's the best word I can think of to describe him.
06:07He was a devout Christian.
06:08And he tried to actually live like Jesus, who in the words of Scripture came not to be served, but
06:16to serve.
06:17And that's how my Papi lived his life.
06:19My Papi came not to be served, but to serve.
06:23And that's what inspired me to go into public service.
06:26I was first as a public school teacher on the west side of San Antonio, where I taught sixth grade
06:31language arts at Rhodes Middle School.
06:37I always say that teaching middle school is the best preparation for politics.
06:45I entered the classroom in the fall of 2011, right after the Texas legislature cut more than $5 billion from
06:54public education.
06:55I saw the impact of those cuts firsthand.
06:58I had 45 students in one classroom.
07:02There weren't enough desks for all my students.
07:04So I had kids sitting on the air conditioning unit in the wealthiest country in human history.
07:11In the 21st century, children sitting on the air conditioning unit.
07:16And that made me mad.
07:18I ended up leading an education nonprofit in central Texas that was helping students like mine, schools like mine.
07:24And then when a seat in that very same legislature opened up in my hometown of Round Rock, Texas, I
07:30threw my hat in the ring.
07:31I was 28 years old.
07:38I had never run for office before.
07:39I was a Democrat running in a Trump district in a county that was so red it hadn't voted for
07:45a Democrat for president since Jimmy Carter.
07:48I was told by the powers that be in the Democratic Party that that race was a lost cause.
07:54I was told that even if it was possible to win a seat like that, I was too young.
08:00I didn't have the money.
08:01I didn't have the political connections to pull off an upset of that kind.
08:05But my neighbors and I, we ran an aggressive, authentic, at times unorthodox campaign that brought people together.
08:16And on election night, we flipped that district with 51% of the vote.
08:24And now I'm in my fourth term in the Texas House where I have brought Democrats and Republicans together to
08:33pass 60 bipartisan bills, bills that raise teacher pay, bills that lower the cost of housing, the cost of childcare,
08:41the cost of prescription drugs, including insulin.
08:44I ran for office, not to be served, but to serve.
08:49And then there's Ken Paxton, the most corrupt politician in Texas.
08:59Ken Paxton was impeached by his own party, by his fellow Republicans for using his public office, his position of
09:08public trust to enrich himself and his donors at the expense of the people of Texas.
09:13Ken Paxton represents everything that's wrong with this broken, corrupt system.
09:19He doesn't serve us.
09:20He serves himself.
09:22You may have seen that since taking office, Ken Paxton has increased his net worth by $27 million, all while
09:32our pay has remained stagnant.
09:34He now owns 15 homes, while most Texans struggle to afford one.
09:40It's hard to get 15 homes in a game of Monopoly.
09:43I don't know how Ken Paxton got 15 homes.
09:46He was impeached for taking bribes from wealthy donors, all while blocking our overtime pay and gutting our healthcare.
09:54This is the rot at the core of this broken system.
09:58It's why so many Texans can't get ahead, no matter how hard they work.
10:02It's why we can't afford the basics.
10:04We can't afford gas or groceries or healthcare because the system has been rigged by billionaires and corrupt politicians like
10:13Ken Paxton.
10:13We have an affordability crisis because we have a corruption crisis.
10:19But we can change that in this election, in this state, in this race.
10:25If we come together, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Texans, to defeat the most corrupt politician in our
10:32state, we can come together to defeat this entire corrupt system.
10:36The reason they're spending $200 million against me is because they know when we win this race, I am going
10:44to pass an anti-corruption agenda that gets big money out of our politics.
10:54That bans corporate PACs and super PACs so billionaires don't buy our elections.
11:00That bans members of Congress in both political parties from trading stocks and enriching themselves while they're in public office.
11:08That will ban gerrymandering nationwide in red states and blue states alike.
11:20And that will enact term limits so we can show these puppet politicians the door.
11:25That is the kind of comprehensive anti-corruption agenda we desperately need in this country.
11:31That's why they're spending so much money against us.
11:34That's why those billionaire mega donors are trying to buy this election.
11:37Actually, it's just one billionaire mega donor.
11:42Elon Musk is trying to buy this Senate seat in Texas.
11:47We just found out that the richest man in the world is almost single handedly bankrolling this effort to install
11:54Ken Paxton in the US Senate and stop this movement we're building in our state.
11:59In all likelihood, if you've seen an attack ad on your screen, that was Elon.
12:05If you've gotten lies in your mailbox, that was Elon.
12:09If you've received a text message saying scary things about me, that was Elon too.
12:15Our movement is funded by 1.3 million individuals who have donated their hard earned money to our campaign.
12:26Ken Paxton is funded by one dude.
12:32Elon Musk wants our land.
12:35He wants our water.
12:37He wants our taxpayer dollars.
12:39He wants his very own personal United States Senator.
12:42He is trying to buy Texas.
12:45But on November 3rd, we are going to send a clear message to the world's first trillionaire.
12:51Texas is not for sale.
13:04This election reminds me of that story in scripture of a young shepherd boy who goes up against a giant.
13:15In that story, Goliath, he taunts and he teases.
13:20He shows up on the day of the fight in full armor.
13:24He's carrying so many weapons, he needs someone else to carry his shield.
13:28We are going up against our own Goliath, the richest man in the world, the most powerful man in the
13:36world, the most corrupt politician in Texas.
13:38Their power is real, but so is ours.
13:43David may not have been as strong or as big as Goliath.
13:46He may not have had as many weapons, but he had faith.
13:50He had hope and he had a slingshot.
13:55U of H, you are my slingshot.
14:03The people of Texas are my slingshot.
14:08And on November 3rd, those Goliaths aren't going to know what hit them.
14:16We have so much work to do in these final days, U of H, so much work to do.
14:21In fact, we're going to have our U of H campaign fellows, if they're here in the room.
14:26They're over here.
14:27They are going to lead y'all to your polling location so you can vote, so you can bring your
14:31friends to vote.
14:32If we do that, if we all show up, if we bring our friends and family, if we make our
14:37voices heard, I am confident, I feel it in my bones, that we are going to win this election on
14:44November 3rd.
14:49And we're going to elect a senator who will serve and not be served.
14:55This is the last play of the last drive.
14:58This is the moment we leave it all on the field.
15:01Because as every Texan knows, clear eyes, full hearts can't lose.
15:07Thank you all for being here.
15:09God bless you.
15:10Let's go with it.
15:37Let's go with it.
