Jessica has spent eighteen years in an orphanage, where Father Severinus and Sister Agatha use “penance” as an excuse to abuse foster children while exploiting government subsidies. When Jessica turns eighteen, Severinus plans to sell her to a labor camp.
On the eve of her escape, a missing-person notice drifts into the basement through the snowy night.
