00:00For horror fans, Scott Derrickson very much ups the gore in this one.
00:04Yeah, I'd say so.
00:06What is your, like, are you, like, looking into the special effects department, like, checking out how all that kind
00:11of stuff is done?
00:12It's so awesome.
00:13I mean, that's the best part of filmmaking is getting to be there and watch the behind the scenes and
00:19just the process of it all.
00:21And I think everybody a part of, you know, our team with, you know, the practical effects that we had.
00:29They were so fantastic and they were all top-notch to everybody who was on their A-game.
00:33So getting to see that and watching a kid's head get cut off and me smashing the grabber's head in
00:38was a lot of fun.
00:40I was going to ask you about that scene.
00:42Like, I assume, like, that's not Ethan Hawke.
00:44You just have a dummy that you're just wailing on?
00:45Well, like, the beginning, the first smash.
00:47Well, yeah, I did not smash Ethan Hawke.
00:50But I just had his head.
00:53We filmed the first part where, I don't remember what I said.
00:56I think Hell is in Flames builds ice and I'd just go like that and then we cut.
01:01And then they replaced him with a full dummy and with this head and it had skull, muscles, blood, brains,
01:08everything.
01:08And I just, I remember, I don't know, it felt like therapy.
01:13It was like a rage room.
01:14I really just took out everything on that.
01:16And I remember everybody goes cut and it was kind of silent.
01:19And the producer looks at my mom, who's sitting at the video village and is, is she okay?
01:26And it was a lot of fun.
01:27That was, honestly, it was my favorite scene to shoot in that movie.
01:30Yeah, I mean, I feel like we even kind of now just discussed the two big catharsis moments in this
01:34movie.
01:34Very, very different extremes as far as content.
01:37Yeah.
01:37I mean, actually, I mean, just on the subject of practical effects and makeup, I mean, what was it like
01:42hanging out with Ethan Hawke in his, like, full-on makeup?
01:45It was really funny.
01:46It was really funny.
01:47I mean, like, we're just, like, filming.
01:50We're sitting on the ice and we're just, like, we're just sitting there, man.
01:53He's just in full makeup, just, like, just kind of waiting.
01:58And this is really funny.
01:59Like, it's just really, really great.
02:00And he's sitting in his cash chair just, like, reading a book with some sunglasses on.
02:04It's great.
02:04It's so, so great.
02:06And he's awesome.
02:06So getting to come back with him was another fun time.
