00:01A federal judge ordered U.S. President Donald Trump to sit for a deposition by the 11th of
00:07December in his multi-billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC. If Trump fails to do so he could
00:14face sanctions including the possible dismissal of the lawsuit. A deposition is a legal procedure
00:21where Trump is required to answer questions under oath before the trial begins. An attorney
00:27representing the BBC said Trump had initially agreed to be deposed earlier in October but he
00:32cancelled. Trump had said he had done so due to a matter of national importance. However the
00:37president was then seen campaigning in Georgia that day. Trump filed a lawsuit against the British
00:44broadcaster in December of 2025 accusing the BBC of defamation because of a documentary they
00:51produced and aired. The BBC admitted to editing together parts of one of Trump's speeches
00:57making it appear as if he had encouraged violence at the U.S. Capitol. The broadcaster apologized and
01:04two senior executives resigned but the BBC denied defamation.
