00:02After weeks of debate about the challenges of child protection, a call to action from the state's children's watchdog.
00:09We have over 3,000 recommendations nationally over the last 15-20 years about how to make improvements in child
00:16protection.
00:17We should just get on with it.
00:18The Treasurer says the state government's been doing that with $600 million added to community services funding in this year's
00:25budget.
00:26There's been some significant growth in the staff in child protection.
00:31The Children's Commissioner says while that's welcome, there's a desperate need for families to be offered specialised supports.
00:37It's mental health, it's about getting help to get kids to school, it's about physical health, it's about parenting skills.
00:46Liberal Senator Jacinta Nampajimba-Price on a tour of regional WA also calling for more.
00:51This government, if they're serious about protecting our most vulnerable, our children, they should be listening to the elders, the
00:59women who are screaming out for the protection of these children.
01:02Despite those pleas, it took until Tuesday for the Aboriginal Affairs Minister to break his silence.
01:08The state government is committed to the national closing the gap principles, so we are working in partnership with Aboriginal
01:14organisations.
01:15The opposition says he should be doing more, but the Premier's continuing to back his minister, saying it's a child
01:22protection, not Aboriginal affairs issue.
01:25A number of reviews into those services are now underway.
01:28The first into recommendations made after a mother killed her three children in Port Hedland in 2022 is due to
01:35be handed to government by the end of next week.
01:38A number of reviews have been implemented for the issue.
01:38We are perceived as a child protection.
01:39What is the one reading that has been snapped at the end of this time?
