00:00The results are in from the California Post poll of the L.A. mayor's race, and they are stunning.
00:05Incumbent Mayor Karen Bass is in real trouble.
00:07She is losing to Socialist City Council member Nithya Raman by eight points.
00:11Raman, the challenger, has 46.7% of support from likely voters, and Bass, the incumbent, has only 38.8%.
00:20And it's not hard to see why voters are going for the challenger.
00:23They are fed up with the job that Bass is doing.
00:26She has 72% disapproval in terms of her job performance, only 26% approve of the job she's doing.
00:33And generally, 66% of likely voters in L.A. believe that the city is off on the wrong track.
00:38Only 16% believe that the city is on the right track.
00:4142% of L.A. voters have considered leaving the city altogether.
00:46Now, in contrast, Raman is viewed mildly positively.
00:50She has 45% approval and 44% disapproval in the poll.
00:54Even more striking, socialism comes out ahead in this poll.
00:5844% say they approve.
00:5941% say they disapprove.
01:01And the approval numbers go way up when you look at younger voters.
01:04Over 55 years old, socialism loses.
01:07Under 55, 50% of voters approve of socialism and only 36% disapprove of it.
01:14Now, voters understand that some of these socialist policies and ideologies and Raman herself might be considered extremist.
01:2241% of voters in this poll say that Raman is more extreme than Bass, but that's not stopping her
01:28from maintaining a lead.
01:29And that's because people are so fed up with what's going on in L.A. that they're just eager for
01:34an alternative.
01:35It shows you what happens in a political system when there really isn't a left and a right anymore, but
01:40just a left and a further left.
01:42People will move to the extreme when the incumbent doesn't do the job required.
01:48The top issue remains homelessness in this poll, along with the cost of living and the cost of housing.
01:53And Bass's entire campaign was that she was going to fix homelessness.
01:56Four years later, she hasn't done it.
01:58That leads to the results in this poll.
02:00And unless Bass can pull it together and reach out to the Spencer Pratt voters who are still the bulk
02:04of undecided voters in this poll,
02:06she is headed for defeat.
02:08That leads to the results in this poll.
