00:09Off and racing, on the first day of the Hobart show, Speedy Pigs, a popular attraction at
00:15the regatta grounds among the rides, food and show bags.
00:19My favourite thing about the show are the racing pigs because they're so cute and the
00:24show bags and just everyone learning about agriculture.
00:27Up to 50,000 people are expected to pass through the gates over the next three days, slightly
00:34more than last year.
00:35The event has been split over multiple sites and times for a fifth year.
00:40Some feel this has made it quieter.
00:43It's very inconvenient to travel to different locations for one show.
00:48Also the fuel prices at the moment, it's kind of crazy to go to Brighton to see the animals
00:53and come here.
00:53I think for people like us who have toddlers, it's very important to have it all at one
00:59place so that it's easier for us to, you know, take the babies, children.
01:04Out at the showgrounds, visitor numbers have dropped and so too have the number of dairy
01:10cow participants.
01:11There's not as many people coming out to the showgrounds here due to not probably knowing
01:16that it's here sort of thing.
01:24Organisers say the show's been operating at a loss of roughly $300,000 a year.
01:30They hope the $100 million redevelopment at the showgrounds in Glenorchy will change that.
01:35There will be a lot more commercial space, there will be several different discreet entertainment
01:40areas and there's a brand new theatre in the showground as well.
01:44So the main act, which is Dorothy this year, will be in a completely weatherproof environment.
01:49This is the last year the show will be held at both the regatta grounds and the showgrounds.
01:54Next year, the entire show will be held here at the newly developed showgrounds, a move show
02:00participants hope will bring more visitors.
02:03Hoping for a bump in visitor numbers next year.
