00:00Could a small position change be the key to unlocking Noni Madueke?
00:03Leroy Sané and Rafinha, two players who, at their best, were truly world-class wingers,
00:09but with a difference. They played on the same side as their preferred foot.
00:12Once commonplace in a football, it is now scarce.
00:15You struggle to think of more than a handful who are left-footed and play on the left,
00:18or right-footed and play on the right. Is May Lassar? Anyone else?
00:23But Madueke's last two games for Arsenal on the left-hand side have produced some of his
00:26finest performances in the red shirt. He was very lively against Leeds before scoring the winner
00:31and winning man of the match off the bench away at Forest. With Saka being undroppable on the right
00:36and Arsenal's dearth of left-wingers, could Madueke make the left flank his own?
00:41This is not the first time he's had a spell there in his career. He played there a few times
00:44for
00:45Chelsea with varying degrees of success. He was excellent versus Liverpool at the end of 24-25,
00:50but had a few other performances there that left a lot to be desired.
00:53The rationale behind this move is that, effectively, it gives Madueke fewer options.
00:57It encourages more direct, efficient play. No chopping in and out, speculative shots or
01:02over-complicated passes. The angles are more closed off, but that actually might be beneficial
01:06to a player who has a reputation for over-complicating things. Look, it's early days and a small sample
01:11size, but Madueke should look at Sane in particular as a use case. A talented, fast winger,
01:17far better off the left than off the right. Maybe he can follow the same path.
