00:00Hello!
00:07Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we've compiled some of the most interesting and sometimes craziest fan theories surrounding the Legend
00:16of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
00:26But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the

00:35The Dead Sages Theory
00:43One of the most popular fan theories about Ocarina of Time paints a rather bleak picture for the Sages.
00:49Some players believe that the main five Sages that Adult Link seeks out, being Zarya, Darunya, Ruto, Impa, and Noburu,
00:58die in their respective dungeons before Link can defeat the boss.
01:01This is supported by Rauru, the Sage of Light, having existed long before the game takes place, and therefore could
01:08be a spirit himself.
01:15That, and during the end credits, we see the Sages as ethereal balls of light, which many took to be
01:21their spirit forms, meaning that they must be dead.
01:24Others believe they simply transcended to a higher plane to protect Hyrule, which is probably closer to the truth.
01:41Malin's Parentage
01:46There's been a lot of speculation about Malin, the young girl who works with her father at Lon Lon Ranch,
01:52particularly the identity of her absent mother.
01:54Many have chosen to believe that Malin's mother was Gerudo.
01:58A gossip stone near the Temple of Time states that the Gerudo will sometimes come to Hyrule in search of
02:03boyfriends.
02:04And if you speak to Malin's father, Talon, while wearing the Gerudo mask, he'll say it looks like his wife
02:10before backtracking.
02:11There's also the matter of Malin's red hair, which the Gerudo all have, and her love of horses and skill
02:18in riding.
02:18At the Gerudo Fortress, Link can partake in a horseback riding archery challenge.
02:30Although she has a different skin tone, Breath of the Wild showed the Gerudo could look differently depending on their
02:36lineage.
02:53Ganondorf is an obvious villain from the get-go.
02:55The Great Deku Tree flat out tells you the Gerudo King cursed him, and Zelda has a prophetic dream about
03:01how dangerous he is for Hyrule, which her trusted nursemaid and protector Impa believes.
03:07So, why then, when he's so clearly evil, is the King so easily fooled, to where Ganondorf is able to
03:14quickly overthrow him at the game's turning point?
03:24This theory has an explanation.
03:26Before the game takes place, there was an intense civil war in Hyrule.
03:31But, other than the Sheikah being loyal to the royal family, we're never given details as to who was on
03:37which side.
03:37If the Gerudo were actually on the King's side and Ganondorf aided him in the conflict, it would explain why
03:44he's so trusting of him and doesn't believe his true nature until it's too late.
03:55The Family Mansion
04:03The former purpose of each temple in Ocarina of Time is given either through environmental clues or vague bits of
04:10dialogue that only make you want to know more.
04:12The Forest Temple, however, is a bit of an outlier.
04:15It has no obvious connection to the closest nearby race like the other temples do.
04:20It looks more like an abandoned mansion, slowly being overtaken by the nature surrounding it.
04:26This has led to the theory that, despite its name, it isn't a temple, but the decrepit home of a
04:32wealthy family.
04:33The four Poe sisters that Link fights throughout the dungeon were members of that family, but who were corrupted by
04:39powerful magic.
04:46Since there aren't any statues of worshipped guardians or deities, and no links to Hyrulean history,
04:52it's an interesting thought about what exactly could have befallen this family.
05:05The Boy in the Graveyard
05:07When Link is a child, he can meet a young boy in the Kakariko Village graveyard during the day, who
05:13is part of the Happy Mask trading quest.
05:15However, this character is missing in the future.
05:18His house has been turned into the bazaar, and there is no mention of his fate.
05:23Naturally, there have been several theories to explain what happened to him.
05:26The most interesting, and certainly the most disturbing, claims that he wandered into the bottom of the well mini-dungeon
05:32after Link opened it.
05:34And the reason that it's sealed in the future is because the boy either freaked out and told the townsfolk,
05:40or was devoured by the monsters inside.
05:47In actuality, the boy's fate was given in a 1999 interview with Japan-only magazine 64 Dream,
05:54but which was only first translated to English in 2022 by the site Shmuplations.
06:00According to co-director Yoshiaki Koizumi, the boy went searching for his missing father five years after Link entered the
06:07Sacred Realm.
06:08He made it to the Lost Woods, where he was turned into a Skull Kid, and since they don't like
06:12adults, the boy wouldn't recognize Link when he returned.
06:16Still, it's fun to theorize, even if it is about one of the surprisingly saddest NPCs in the game.
06:37The spirit temple is characterized as a former place of worship for the Gerudo, with a gigantic statue of their
06:43goddess above its entrance and within one of its main rooms.
06:46The game never goes into detail about who this goddess is, which has made her a natural source for speculation.
06:53Many theorists believe she's Din, the goddess of power, and one of the three deities that created Hyrule and the
06:59Triforce.
07:00There's actually a lot of evidence for this.
07:02Ganondorf, leader of the Gerudo, winds up with the Triforce of power, Din's portion.
07:07In the Arbiter's Grounds and Twilight Princess, also found in the Gerudo Desert, statues of the goddess of the sand
07:14appear holding fire, which is the element Din is often associated with.
07:19Theorists also believe there's precedence in other games for the goddesses to be known under different titles.
07:25Furore is referred to as the goddess of wind by the Tingle Tuner in the Wind Waker, and Nehru is
07:31theorized to be the goddess of time spoken of in Majora's Mask.
07:41Navi's Fate
07:54At the end of Ocarina of Time, Navi leaves Link, floating off into the light from a high-up window
08:00in the Temple of Time.
08:01And there have been a ton of theories since the game's release as to why she leaves so suddenly and
08:07where she goes.
08:08The most sound one claims she simply left because the duty given to her by the Great Deku Tree was
08:14complete, and the fairies were only meant to accompany Kokiri in the first place, which Link was not.
08:19But a darker spin states, because her purpose has been fulfilled and because she leaves so suddenly, that she died,
08:27and her floating off into the light was meant to be taken literally.
08:30When Link goes looking for her at the beginning of Majora's Mask, it's only because he's in denial over the
08:35loss of his friend.
08:44The Kokiri Extinction
08:53Another one of the darker theories about Ocarina of Time claims the fate of the Kokiri is tied directly to
08:59the timeline split.
09:00In the adult timeline, we know the world eventually floods, and the forever children evolve into the Koroks of Wind
09:07Waker.
09:07But here, they're able to survive because of the Great Deku Tree, which is canonically the same sprout that Link
09:13meets after completing the Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time.
09:21This theory claims that in the Child timeline, which takes place after Link is sent back to his own time,
09:27the Kokiri eventually die out because the Deku Tree sprout doesn't exist, and therefore doesn't grow to protect them.
09:34It isn't too big of a leap to make then that in the Fallen timeline, the sprout is destroyed as
09:39Ganon's power grows.
09:40It's a sad explanation for why neither the Kokiri nor the Koroks appear in the Fallen or Child timelines.

10:21Bongo Bongo, the traitor.
10:31Bongo Bongo, the boss of the Shadow Temple, is one of the more disturbing figures in Ocarina of Time.
10:36Although the game doesn't outright explain him, there's a strong theory about his existence that has been widely accepted by
10:43many players for years now.
10:45We're told of a man who lived in Kakariko Village long ago who could quote-unquote see the truth,
10:51whose house stood where the well is now, which is where Link finds the lens of truth.
10:55Many believe that because Bongo Bongo escapes from the bottom of the well before going to the Shadow Temple,
11:01that he is the ghost of this mysterious man.
11:04Under the well, Link also finds multiple torture devices used by the Sheikah in darker times.
11:11Bongo Bongo's appearance features severed hands and a glowing neck stump which resembles a bright red eye.
11:18The theory claims he was a traitor to the Sheikah, was tortured, and beheaded.
11:22Going further, some connect him to the interlopers spoken of in Twilight Princess,
11:27that he paid for his crimes before the tribe was banished to the Twilight Realm.
11:32The evidence being that Bongo Bongo's title is Phantom Shadow Beast,
11:36and Shadow Beasts are also the name given to the transformed Twilight descendants of the interlopers that make up Zant's
11:43forces.
11:43Either way, the theories show Bongo Bongo is someone that Hyrule desperately wanted to eliminate.
