🇦🇺 ABOUT THE SONG

Advance Australia Fair was written and composed by Scottish-born Australian schoolteacher and musician Peter Dodds McCormick in 1878. It was first performed publicly in Sydney on 30 November 1878.

The song grew in popularity and was sung at the inauguration of the Commonwealth of Australia on 1 January 1901. Following public polls and national discussions about choosing an Australian anthem, it was officially proclaimed Australia's national anthem on 19 April 1984.

On 1 January 2021, the words “For we are young and free” were changed to “For we are one and free”, reflecting a renewed emphasis on unity and belonging.

Ian Brook's recording brings a fresh, cinematic treatment to this historic Australian song, with majestic orchestration, harmonious vocals and a triumphant finish.
