00:00Dolphins fans give a soft sigh of relief as they get their first win of the season.
00:07Their first win under Jeff Hatley and John Eric Sullivan.
00:10Their first win with Malik Willis at the quarterback position.
00:14It's not one of those, oh, thank goodness, but there was some talk of this team going 0-17.
00:20I think if we'd have gotten to like week 13 and not had a win yet, we'd have a little
00:24more relief.
00:25But since it's week 7, we're okay.
00:27Now it's onward and upward for the Miami Dolphins.
00:30Just get better every week.
00:31I guarantee probably more wins in this Dolphins team's future.
00:35They've been close a couple times throughout the year.
00:38They've played very hard throughout the year.
00:40And today it culminated with a win over the New York Jets 28-35.
00:46After the game, Jeff Hatley, he was soaking wet.
00:49The guys poured water all over him in the locker room to celebrate his first win as a head coach.
00:53He talked about how much it meant not just for him to get his first win as an NFL coach,
00:59but why he wanted to win so much for the guys that put it online for him every single week.
01:06I mean, there's always a chance.
01:08I said to hang on.
01:10I went and I grabbed the O-line and I looked at them all and I asked them, you know,
01:13what they thought,
01:14what they wanted to do.
01:15And when I saw the look in their eye, I was very confident that we'd get it.
01:18So as soon as I saw that, there was no doubt in my mind that I'd go for it.
01:21I trusted them.
01:23You know, I talk about the toughness of this team and what they're built on.
01:27So I just, once we made the decision, I knew we'd get it.
01:29The O-line did a great job all day.
01:31I thought we ran the ball well.
01:32We protected well.
01:33I thought the offense in general.
01:34I thought Bobby called a great game.
01:36I thought Malik played his best game.
01:38And that was really cool to see.
01:39I thought I ran really hard, but just to credit to all of them.
01:42How much does this reinforce a lot of the things that you guys have been talking about
01:46and preaching about to finally get that first record?
01:49Yeah, I just, I wanted the win for them, Omar.
01:52I just, I wanted them to feel this.
01:53All the hard work, all the things that we've been asking them to do since OTAs
01:57and just stay into the process.
01:59I just, the important thing for me was for them to feel this moment.
02:03And that's what I told them in the locker room.
02:05I mean, it was, I mean, it was really cool being in there with them there.
02:08That's one, I know we'll all remember as we build this thing, you know,
02:13that feeling that we just had in locker.
02:14But that's what it was all about for me.
02:16I just wanted it so badly for them because they deserve it.
02:19So we'll watch the tape.
02:21There's a lot to correct, but it's nice to do it with a win because regardless of anything,
02:27the process is always going to be the most important thing to me.
02:30And win or lose, you got to keep going.
02:32But I'm just, I'm grateful for them.
02:33I'm proud of them.
02:35And it was a fun day.
02:36What was the locker room like?
02:38I mean, I got, I grabbed every guy as I went in and then I went in and my socks
02:44were wet.
02:44So I had so much water dumped on me.
02:46It was, it was a really, really special moment.
02:49One that I'm appreciative of and that I won't forget.
02:52So it was fun.
02:54They deserve it.
02:54You could kind of feel all the, a lot come out of them.
02:57So I'm very happy for the players and they did a great job.
03:01Coach, just talk about the physicality and the edge that your team played with.
03:33Yeah.
03:34Who we are.
03:35And that's really important.
03:36Did it mean a little, did it mean a little bit more to you to win this back home?
03:40Coming back on this first night?
03:41You know, it's not about me, but you know, to have my mom here, my brother and my sister and
03:46a lot of family.
03:47Sure.
03:47That's important to think about, you know, as a kid coming into this stadium.
03:51I have a lot of memories here, a lot of memories with my dad and, you know, thinking of me
03:55as a little kid in the parking lot as we came in.
03:57I mean, I was one of those guys flipping off the buses, you know, and now here I am, you
04:02know, somehow it worked out where now I'm coaching here.
04:05So, so sure.
04:07To have my family here and do it, it is.
04:10But the biggest thing for me is still the team.
04:12How many people did you have?
04:13I think I had 30 plus.
04:15Jeff, we've heard players, coaches say that this team needs to learn how to win over the past month.
04:21What do you think they learned about how to win today?
04:24Well, we needed to learn how to take a lead and keep a lead.
04:27And that was, you know, that was something that was certainly, it's the first time we took the lead early
04:32in the game.
04:32Then we had a pretty big lead.
04:35You got to learn to play ahead.
04:36Playing defense is a little bit different when you're playing ahead.
04:38Playing offense is a little bit different.
04:40So there's going to be a lot of learning lessons as we go.
04:43I like the resiliency to keep the lead at the end.
04:46Really come up big on the play to Caleb down the sideline that Malik made.
04:50That was a huge, huge series.
04:52I love the resiliency of the defense when they had the ball on the goal line and we stopped them
04:56down there.
04:56That was a huge series in the game.
04:58And the pressure, I think it was Simp got on one field goal to force a bad field goal.
05:01So while it wasn't pretty, the fight was there.
05:04And I think that's who we are, right?
05:06Get down on the goal line, keep fighting.
05:08You know, try to hold him a field goal, miss field goal.
05:10And then to finish it off to the end with those runs from the O-line and from Oli, then
05:15go for him fourth and one to seal it.
05:17There's a lot to learn.
05:18But you got to learn how to win.
05:19You got to learn how to play ahead.
05:20I'm going to ask about a couple, I mean, seemingly minor plays in the moment or minor performances in the
05:27moment.
05:27But Zane Anderson, they're on the goal line when they run play action on the chop sack.
05:32Did you catch what he was able to do on that player?
05:36Did you catch how he helps keep the play in front of him?
05:39I heard about it.
05:40I was actually watching chop on that play.
05:42So I'll see it on the plane ride home.
05:44But Zane is a guy.
05:46You know, Zane's a guy who started off the year and was basically a rotational starter.
05:51And then, you know, his role right now is to be a backup.
05:53Zane's a guy that I can count on the – or we can count on the come in when he
05:56needs to.
05:57And we count on him to do a good job.
05:59So for him to make a play like that in a big-time situation, he was ready for it.
06:03And then Malik's slide on the 15-play drive, the scoring drive right before half, sliding inbounds, make sure the
06:10clock keeps running.
06:10What does that say, I guess, about his level of awareness?
06:13Yeah, I think that it's growing, right?
06:15So, you know, if you look at Malik and now the six games, the body of work, it's like a
06:21six game is basically a rookie starter.
06:23So he's going to learn.
06:24And we need to see him make those plays.
06:26I was actually right down in front of me.
06:28I saw him.
06:28It was good.
06:29He was decisive today.
06:30I thought that was – he was decisive, and I thought he competed today at a really, really high level.
06:36I thought he got rid of the ball quick.
06:37I thought he made good decisions.
06:39He took care of the football.
06:40He ran when he had.
06:41He almost had another one on the one-third down.
06:43We missed on a block, and we had a quarterback draw, and I thought he was about to crack through
06:47again.
06:47But I'm just really proud of him and how he's responded.
06:52You mentioned Malik's decisiveness.
06:53Did you feel there was something from the bye week, from those conversations between you and him, between Bobby and
06:58him, that kind of clicked for him in order to gain that decisiveness?
07:01I mean, I'm not sure.
07:02I think that's a better question for Malik.
07:03You know, a lot of conversations.
07:04But the biggest thing for Malik is just the constant – the belief that I have in him, and I
07:10just always need him to have that in himself.
07:12And that's always going to be the most important thing for me.
07:14A couple quick notes from Jeff Halfley's postgame press conference.
07:17Did not blink an eye going for it on fourth down with two minutes left in the game.
07:21He said he looked at the offensive line, and they said, let's do this.
07:24No one blinks.
07:25Everyone's in.
07:26They get the first down with the Malik Willis sneak, and the Dolphins get the first win of the season.
07:31Also, he believes in Malik Willis.
07:33He wants Malik Willis to believe in himself as much as he believes in quarterback that wears number two for
07:38the Miami Dolphins.
07:40And it was a homecoming of sorts for Jeff Halfley.
07:43He grew up in the area.
07:43He was a fan at that stadium, flipping off the opposing team's buses to do it.
07:48Probably us.
07:49In front of – I know, he didn't.
07:50He kind of mentioned that.
07:51To do it in front of the family, in front of where you grew up, something pretty special.
07:55Your first win.
07:56You get that no Gatorade shower.
07:57You get the actual water shower.
08:00We're going to go back to the phone lines.
08:01It's win.
08:02We're all over the place.
08:03305-567-0560.
08:05Make it quick.
08:06104-3-FM-WQAM.
08:07What's your name?
08:08Where are you calling from?
08:10Hey, Chico, I'm not that uncle, man.
08:12I'm the other uncle.
08:13Oh, man.
08:14I knew I was going to get in some kind of trouble.
08:16Is this Michael?
08:17Yeah.
08:18I was not talking about you, Uncle Mike.
08:20You've loved me my whole life and been there for me.
08:22It was Weefless' fault.
08:23Jets down.
08:24Fins up.
08:25Please don't hate me, and don't take away the Thanksgiving invite.
08:29That's right, baby.
08:29Fins up, bro.
08:31That is what I'm talking about.
08:32We get a little family Dolphins love right there.
08:34Everyone's happy.
08:35We got the number one college football team in the land and the best team in the college
08:39football landscape right now.
08:40We got a Dolphins team that won.
08:42They are not going to go 0-17 this year.
08:45They got families coming together.
08:47We got friends getting cops calling on them because they're celebrating shooting off fireworks
08:50in their front yard.
08:52It is a Dolphins winning weekend.
08:53It is a Hurricanes winning weekend.
08:55Now we can get the heat to start winning.
08:58The Roosters are singing in Allapada and Little Havana all through Miami.
09:01The Finns are finning, baby.
09:03The Panthers got a win today, 3-2 against the Chicago Blackhawks.
09:07You know what?
09:08I'm going to go home and feel a little all right.
09:10You know, I might go home, cook some Zatarans, make some dirty rice, maybe watch a movie.
09:17I'm footballed out, man.
09:18You know what?
09:19Watching this game tonight, although I know Kansas City and I do know that the Seahawks are
09:23both really good teams and it's going to be a really good game.
09:25You can hear it right here on 104.3 FM, WQAM.
09:28I don't know.
09:28I don't want to mess with the good mojo.
09:30I'm feeling too good right now.
09:32You look like you make some good Zatarans.
09:33Got to mix up a little bit of Zatarans.
09:35Now, if you know me, I was born and raised in New Orleans.
09:38Chico City played a little college baseball at Delgado Community College.
09:40Shout out to Delgado, man.
09:42In New Orleans.
09:42Right there by City Park.
09:44I got arrested at City Park one time.
09:47I'm a fan of Etouffee.
09:49Etouffee, man.
09:50If I had some crawfish, I could make some crawfish Etouffee right now.
09:54So, you suck the head or don't suck the head of the crawfish?
09:55I definitely suck the heads.
09:56I suck the heads, man.
09:58No, crawfish is delicious.
09:59I suck the heads all the time, man.
10:00That's part of the best thing of crawfish.
10:02But it is a time to celebrate if you're a Dolphins fan.
10:04Heck, arepas for everybody.
10:07Yeah, yeah.
10:07Carne con papa.
10:08Pan con poico, pero saca o pan.
10:11Pastelito guayabas.
10:12Yo, yeah.
10:12Let's celebrate, man.
10:14Let's go.
10:14To canos, if you want.
10:16It's all good.
10:17Hey, look.
10:18Wins are hard to come by in this league.
10:21The Dolphins have been on the doorstep of some wins.
10:24They've stayed through it mentally, physically, and emotionally.
10:27You have to be proud of this team.
10:28I am so proud.
10:29And anybody who's going to the next game here at Hard Rock, do me a favor.
10:33If you like this name, put a sign up.
10:36Let's go hashtag underfins.
10:39I don't think Dan likes it, but we're the underfins.
10:42Underdogs, underfins, we got this.
10:44And if you're thinking the Jets were overlooking the Miami Dolphins, think again.
10:47This was a game the Jets just publicly stated, we cannot afford to lose this game.
10:51This is a game we must win.
10:53They circled it on their calendar.
10:55They have been a competitive team all year long.
10:57And the Dolphins competed today.
10:59They executed better.
11:01And they found a way to win.
11:04Feeling pretty good if you're a Miami Dolphins fan today.
11:07And now you feel as though that small monkey is off your back.
11:11You've got the first win of the season.
11:13Now it's going to be interesting to see what this team does going forward.
11:17As now they seem to start with more reps, with more games, getting their footing, getting
11:22a little more comfortable, figuring things out.
11:25The game is slowing down for them.
11:27The rookies are not rookies anymore.
11:29They are somewhat seasoned players.
11:33Malik Willis, 12th start as a professional.
11:35He's starting to become a little more seasoned with seasoning, with coaching, with a coaching
11:39staff that I thought did a really good job coming off the bye week.
11:43They simplified things.
11:44They slowed things down for this team.
11:45They gave them a competitive edge.
11:48And they got the win today.
11:50Safe to say that Jeff Halfley is going to get a good night's sleep tonight, huh Dan?
11:53Jeff Halfley is going to get a great night's sleep with his first win.
11:57By the way, sort of a homecoming for him.
11:59He grew up 30 minutes away from that life stadium.
12:02He grew up going to those games.
12:04Grew up probably flipping off the Dolphins on their bus when he was a little kid.
12:07He said it.
12:08It's okay.
12:09Ollie Gordon, the second we have ourselves a running back.
12:11Malik Willis, at least for now, for this week.
12:14We have ourselves a competent quarterback.
12:16We've got ourselves a defense.
12:18Chop Robinson's getting sacks.
12:19People are making plays for this team.
12:22That's all you can ask.
12:22Get better every week.
12:24You throw in a win.
12:25Things are A-OK.
12:26And for us Dolphins fans, we get to have a whole week at work where it's our turn.
12:31It's our turn where we can talk to everybody else.
12:35I almost said it, Dan.
12:36I almost said it.
12:37But it's our turn to pick on everybody else now because we got the W.
12:41Jets down.
12:42Fins up.
12:42Bring on the New England Patriots.
12:44That is going to be a 425 kickoff on Sunday.
12:47We ready?
12:48Are you ready?
12:49We'll see you postgame next week for Chico City.
12:52I am at Dan Day.
12:54Sunday night football is coming up next.
12:55Main thing you need to know, though, Dolphins win.
12:57And they beat the J-E-T-S.
13:00Sucks, sucks, sucks.
13:0028-25.
