00:00I am at the brand new Western Sydney International Airport, taking the first international flight
00:05from here to Auckland with Air New Zealand. Let's have a look inside the first major airport
00:14to open in Australia in more than 50 years.
00:30About 50 kilometres from Sydney's CBD, the brand new airport is located in Badgeries Creek, near Penrith.
00:37Get used to calling it WSI, because that's how the street signs refer to it.
00:42Unlike Sydney Airport, there's not much surrounding WSI, except for vast stretches of open green land.
00:49From outside, the building is rather unassuming – a sprawling, low-lying structure.
00:54Inside, however, it feels enormous, with a high-ceilinged concourse flooded with natural light from expansive glass windows.
01:03There are some seats, a convenience store that was closed during my visit,
01:08and a small takeaway cafe serving coffees, snacks and light meals.
01:13Air New Zealand is the first international airline operating from WSI,
01:17and these are its self-service check-in counters.
01:22To be the first international airline out of a brand new Greenfield Airport is a huge team effort.
01:28We've had actually more than 75 teams across the airline working on this for about 10 months now.
01:34We've done full end-to-end tests of all the digital, the customer journey, so we're ready to go.
01:39But it has been a project and a great partnership with Western Sydney Airport.
01:44And what does it take to be the first airline? I mean, what sort of preparations did you have to
01:47do?
01:48Yeah, we had to do a ton of working through, you know, with customs, with immigration,
01:52all the digital, all of the safety and regulatory around the runway,
01:55making sure that these services are first and foremost safe,
01:59but of course that we have that incredible customer experience
02:02and that Kiwi hospitality that we're known for.
02:04After checking in, I head upstairs towards departures.
02:08One of the best things about the airport is its simplicity.
02:11There's just one terminal, with domestic departures on one side and international departures on the other.
02:18Within minutes, I'm through security and immigration.
02:21Beyond immigration, there's a good-sized duty-free outlet, another convenience store and a small cafe.
02:27For now, though, dining and shopping options are limited,
02:31with no full-service restaurants or bars operating during my visit.
02:35Air New Zealand made history when its aircraft landed at WSI at 7.26am,
02:41becoming the first international airline to arrive at the new airport.
02:45And shortly afterwards, flight NZ166 became the first international service to depart,
02:51taking off for Auckland at 9.17am.
02:55The rest of the airport is at 8. Doncji5 is an incredible drive-in control of birds.
02:58And only one place for us should be located in the Canada's public comfort zone,
03:00and only one place for us, who have not occupied by museums,
03:00and the rest of our location.
03:00And the flight from the Arctic-נס
